Looking for an unusual gift for a man aged 72. Tried all sorts of 'experiences' previously, but wondered if anybody had any good ideas.

Oh dear I’m useless at this kind of thing but didn’t want your thread to just disappear. My only offering would be to get him restaurant vouchers if he likes to eat out or theatre vouchers.
As I said, am not good at this. 🫣

What is your budget?

Have a look at John Lewis website
Unique gifts for men.
As I don't know your budget, your relationship or the interests of the gentleman that's all I can suggest.

Is he your DH/ partner? What are his interests? How old is he? We need more info please

A visit to a local vineyard or gin distillery where he can try out tipples and maybe have lunch and buy him a bottle to take home? Assuming he does drink alcohol.

We often buy a nice hamper for people where they’re difficult to buy for. Regency Hampers offer a nice selection.

Theatre tokens, let him choose a show then lunch or post theatre supper.

Just what I was about to ask.

Every man of 72 is an individual. One will be football mad and a regular at the local pub, another will be into F1 racing and fine dining and everything in between

I think when you reach the stage of asking strangers on the internet what to buy for someone they don’t know, it’s time to stop buying presents for adults.

As a 68 year old male, I will offer a few thoughts. Christmas lost some magic the first time I received socks. All of the suggestions above I would have no interest in. Our interests at our age are fairly fixed. ( I am referring to males). I would ask what he would like. I know, there is no surprise. What is more iomportant? The element of surprise or a gift that would be much appreciated?

I agree that it's impossible to suggest things without knowing more information.

I've got mine a leather washbag (his was ancient and tatty) and a ceramic heater for the garage, but they wouldn't be for everyone. We (well, I) do stockings, too, and they give opportunity for little things people like or need, eg socks, toiletries, favourite sweets etc.

Well I'm in that dilemma, matters being fairly new, and just attempted a "what do you think" (of this thread).

He hedged. "well, women generally know better".

How about tickets to something he’ll enjoy - bearing his interests in mind.
Theres only so many socks/washbags a man can have. If he is not a close really a bottle of his favourite malt/craft gin/ cognac is usually safe.

I got DH a cosy new dressing gown as his was worn out. I also look for books that I know would interest him. I buy them as I find them throughout the year and keep them till Christmas day. He also likes posh chocolate of the type he'd never buy himself.

My DH was given a head torch last year and has used it a lot. He barbecues all year round and likes that he is hands free with it.

With the possibility of power loss that could be combined with small battery or wind up radio or power bank.

Tickets for something.
