Embarrassing sweat

jenpax you are not alone. I suffer from head sweating too, invariably ending up looking as if I've just come out of the shower, my hair dripping and plastered to my forehead, while all around me are looking cool as cucumbers, even women with luxurious, long, thick hair. It is just so embarrassing isn't it? I honestly don't know what the answer is. The only thing I can do is wear a hat - this makes me even hotter but at least it hides the sweat soaked hair

Facial sweating is a common problem and can be even more stressful and embarrassing than other types of excessive sweating. Even people who sweat heavily from other body areas may find that it's their facial sweating that bothers them the most. That's because our faces are how we present ourselves to the rest of the world, and we cannot hide the effects of excessive sweating on the face.

The first step for anyone with any type of excessive sweating is to see a doctor for a full medical check-up including an assessment to make sure that excessive sweating is not due to another medical condition or a side effect of a medication. When extreme sweating is due to a different medical condition or a medication it's called secondary hyperhidrosis. Secondary hyperhidrosis can signify a more serious health problem and so should always be considered first.

If your doctor determines that your extreme sweating is independent of other medical conditions or medications, then it's called primary hyperhidrosis and the hyperhidrosis treatment plan will be similar to that used for other body areas of excessive sweating. For example, products used on the skin at the area of sweating (topical solutions) should be tried first.

I found this so helpful, as I, too, begin to "glow" as soon as the temperature rises. Because of this, I avoid concerts with my choir during the warmer months, and find myself dreading any occasion when it would be hot. I did ask my doctor, but she seemed to think it was quite normal. Like you, it's only my head that seems to melt, even sitting here today my hair is damp along the edges! I didn't have this problem when I was younger, although I have always found hot weather very wearisome. Thanks for your helpful advice.

And my hair ends up like Worzel Gummidge's, hence I have just had it chopped off short.

I just thought I was still experiencing menopausal symptoms at my great age.

You are not alone! Sweat pours down my face and when I am cooking it drives me crazy.
I am sweating now - I carry a gents cotton hankie around with me for mopping up.
But it never occurred to me that it might mean that something is wrong.
Something else to worry about......!

So sorry ladies but what a relief hearing I am not alone in truly dripping wet,face and head looking as if I have been well dowsed!
Indeed yes thanks Jenpax I have had a jolly good read and almost every word written seemed as though I had penned it all.
So it is a genuine complaint,on one hand that eases my mind but on the other terrifies me as quite frankly the choices one can take to help the condition are quite bizarre,but it certainly gives me...........and all of us who have suffered long in silence I suspect??..........some food for thought...........although I think it is something I will ponder awhile.
I honestly did not think of it as a condition...........although again a fat lot of good that is without some real help to halt this nuisance,so embarrassing and really quite upsetting.
It certainly affects your self worth and your social life.

I don't suffer with excessive facial sweat but just struggle in general with this very hot weather. I've been using a Body Shop facial mist (Rose Dewy Glow) which does help to cool me down. It may be worth trying?

Hi Ladies it’s been a cause of misery for me more years than I care to remember? even hot evenings are not exempt from this and many a time we have been headed out to an evening event where I started the evening feeling cool and fresh and felt that I was looking quite good! Only to find that after a half hour in a hot and crowded place that my face was soaking wet, hair either unattractively plastered to my head or frizzed up! And carefully applied eye make up run? it’s not helped self esteem at all?
So glad to know I am not on my own and having researched it a bit (which for some reason I never thought of before??‍♀️) I will see if my GP can suggest anything to help, I know it’s not menopause as I have had this problem since I was a teenager.

My husband has been like this for as long as I've known him - any physical work and it streams in his eyes and he is constantly soaking towels drying his face. He was like it when he was thin so it's not down to his weight although I know that doesn't help.

My DIL is the same however her problem is not just her face - its her whole body - she is so embarrassed about it especially at work.

I too have always suffered with a sweating head and face. My mum was also afflicted.
I find it very embarrassing but there is nothing that makes it stop. I have very thick hair which I keep very short but it makes no difference.
My face sweats even when it's cold, that makes me feel even worse.
Commisserations (?) to anyone else who suffers.

Jenpax, I had sweating on my face too. It was really embarrasing. If you'll just consider about it why you suffer
only from face sweating, it's will not helpful. Who knows why only your face is sweaty? Its necesssary find the solution for that. I used Electro Antiperspirant for my wet face. A few procedures with face adaptor help me defeat my problem with excessive sweating on my face for long time. Believe me, now I can use any creams or fluids for my face without worry about that it will dissolve.

Although it's almost a year since this thread was used, I wonder if any fellow-sufferers have found anything to help with this condition? I seem to be worse than ever, and a delicious meal in an expensive restaurant while on holiday the other day was ruined by my reaction to the heat. I have found hand-held fans very helpful, though I do feel self-conscious about using them; on this occasion the owner of the restaurant positioned an electric fan to one side, so I could feel more comfortable. This seems such a trivial complaint, but it does impact hugely on my life! Anyone out there with the answer?!

Hmmm... that sounds little weird, did you noticed it in other case? Because the fan is not enough (especially for me), you can try to stop sweating using something better against sweating. Did you try iontophoresis? I can recommend it, especially electro antiperspirant, I very like it.
