Saw consultant yesterday and he had the scan results. There is no infection, but the diagnosis (as I had suspected) is "micro movement" of the prosthesis in the femur. It was clearly a mechanical problem, as the acute pain happens when I have been standing for a while and then take my weight off it - it is excruciating and I cannot put my weight on that leg for about a minute afterwards.
So....I have two choices: live with it or have it renewed (with no guarantee that it - or some other problem - will not recur).
So, since the surgery made me very ill before, I will just get on with living with it. It is a big problem for me when I am singing or conducting as I have to stand for longish periods - I am singing the St Matthew Passion on Saturday and that lasts 3 hours!!! + 2 hours of afternoon rehearsal. Wish me luck!
I told the consultant that it is never a good idea to operate on doctors' wives as something always goes wrong!
