Magic watering wand - or not!

I put in a few hours of Gardening and felt very satisfied with my work. I have a couple of water butts and use them with watering cans a lot of the time but this evening it was going to be much easier just to use the hose with a light mist from the thing I call a wand.
Plastic connectors are wonderful, and I shouldn’t complain - but then if I weren’t going to complain, I wouldn’t be writing this. I connected the hose to the tap and the wand to the other end of the hose. The minute I turned the water on the wand came off the hose! So, I trotted back to the tap, turned the water off and reconnected the wand. Then back to the tap (there’s a good reason why I don’t take the one near to the tap, in case you’re wondering) and this time when I turn the tap on the host disconnected itself from the tap. Tried again, and some water made it as far as the wand so I started watering. This time it disconnected in my hands and I got soaked. It has happened many, many times before but tonight I’m soaked, my back hurts, I’m tired, I’m hungry and did I mention that I’m soaked.
I used to be perfectly happy with Jubilee clips. Okay, the screws rusted every now and then, but at least I didn’t get soaked.
However … The watering cans are all filled ready for tomorrow, I have a wee dram in front of me and I’ve had my rant. Onwards and upwards.

Annoying, it’s a lot easier watering with a hose than watering cans, but that has happened to me too. In the end I got a brass tap connector, which is better, I’ve haven’t been soaked lately.

Absolutely maddening! But, not happening to me now - I got one of these, and it actually works!

Thank you both. @LucyAnna5 I’ve just ordered 2 of the no-flow ones and one of the originals. Could be a game changer! 🤞

It's happened to me too!

Grrrr!

Azalea99 - I struggled lifting full watering cans out of my water butts until I bought a battery operated water pump. This hooks onto the top edge of the water butt, one tube drops into the water butt to syphon out the water and another tube connects to my hose pipe. It has made light work if watering the garden but has especially come I to it's is. At the allotment. It was bought from a well known D.I.Y store but are easily available on Amazon etc.
I know you just ordered other parts but the pump is a game changer.

I rarely manage to do any sort of watering without watering myself in the process. Hoses like to jump off spray guns, attachments unattach themselves, connectors disconnect, and sprinklers invariably get me first regardless of which way I point them.
It has got slightly better with an extending hose with brass fixings which stay fixed but I am just a klutz when it comes to anything water related.
Bring on the rain. ☔️

This has brightened my day. Yesterday evening I used, for the first time, the super duper all bells and whistles extendable hose with about 8 different nozzle settings my gardener got for me and connected up. It was quite expensive.

I looked at all the nozzle settings and decided to try them all, one by one. What fun, I thought. When I got to the setting marked "shower" I clearly failed to recognise that it meant I would be getting a shower, not the garden. hmm

My amazing extendable hose was amazing…….until I trod on it…..
I could repair the puncture but the effort seems too much aggro.

Thanks LucyAnna5. I've just ordered one. Fed up with getting soaked .

Oh I am glad you started this thread as I was getting really fed up with disconnecting and reconnecting the two hoses for front and back garden that are connected to the outside tap at the side of the house.

I have just ordered a two way connector for the tap so that I can simply use either hose as they will be permanently connected. Brilliant!

I can't lift full watering cans.

Thank you @ClicketyClick. My son has just reminded that he bought me a pump last year. I never got round to using it so will have to search the garage & shed for it, but if it has a hose connector it means I can use water from the butts instead of the mains wherever possible. (I’ll probably find I’ve put it in the barbecue to keep it safe - I’ve done that before!)

My two way hose adaptor has arrived and it is brilliant!

You can't say the name of the 'well known DIY store' but you can say the name of Amazon!!!

Jeff Bezos will be most grateful!

I'm sick of having wet feet and being wet all down one side, where the hose and attachment join and leak. Also when watering hanging baskets it runs all down my arm and then down my body! I am really sick of it! I've yet to find one that doesn't! A friend of mine said he's never known a, Hozelock I think was the brand fitting, that didn't leak and that his son's one does the same. I got him to try and fit the hose into the attachment, but it still leaked, so wasn't just me that wasn't doing it right! I now have a long metal attachment which makes watering hanging baskets much easier, but the join still flipping leaks! AAAARGH!!!

I'm a visitor to several gardening websites (basically cos I'm no good at gardening and trying to learn) and the number of folks complaining about the hose-pipe-fittings issue is huge! Nobody can recommend Hozelock nor do any of the other makes shine out as better.

I couldn’t believe 2 weeks ago, when we had a couple of hot days, my water-butt which was full the previous day, was completely empty 😫 - it had obviously evaporated, because there was no evidence of a leak.

Well, I can definitely recommend the jaw-grip connector - it works!

My Hozelock hose really annoys me. It kinks so easily, and frequently, and if it can get stuck on anything as I pull it, it will. I can’t understand why they haven’t managed to improve it.

Thanks for recommending these. We ordered two straight away and they work! Really pleased, so thank you.

Barbadosbelle - yes, I realised my mistake after posting. Apologies.
