I find I need both an anvil ratchet pair and a bypass pruner pair. The anvil pair are better for thicker harder wood. I bought Spear and Jackson.

I made holsters for mine from a pair of two yr old size denim jeans £1.50 in charity shop. I cut the legs off sewed up the bottom and folded the top over so it would act as a belt loop.
It is very convenient.

I have small hands and DH bought me these. They are Draper and are very strong and comfortable to hold.
