Doggy Bags .

My 88 year old mother always tries to put her 'left overs' in her bag wrapped in a tissue. I have become wise to this now and take a 'takeaway' box with me for her uneaten food. I don't think she even eats it but doesn't like to leave it on her plate because it looks bad.

If I forget the tub then I just ask at the counter or bar for some foil. If not she would insist on shoving it in her bag, gravy, sauce you name it in it goes.

It's obvious to me though Nonu why doggy bags are supplied in America due to the enormous portions served. I have seen what we would describe as a full meal left on some plates!

If you wanted a doggy bag, the restaurant should have complied with your request.

I have requested a doggy bag at St John's Spitalfields and they were more than happy to oblige. Not a lot of dogs would necessarily appreciate "Fusion food "though, I suspect - whereas the best part of a sucking pig's head went down a treat with our pooch.

Most restaurants in my area are perfectly happy to provide a container for food you've paid for but for some reason can't finish. How can h&s be an issue?

When my son was a chef at a Cornish hotel he became very skilled at making aluminium foil swans for customers to take their uneaten food home in.

I nearly always ask to take left over food home and have never been refused a 'doggy bag', even at our lock curry house. After all it's not their food after you've paid for it. Wonder what Fusion are doing with their leftovers then

I have had afternoon tea with friends at Harvey Nicks and they will give any leftovers to you in a lovely box and then in a very fancy carrier bag. Somehow the cakes don't seem so appetising once you have got them home

I've had that treatment at Harvey Nicks, Gally - very smart. But you're right, the cakes don't seem quite the same...

sometimes i ask for a child;s portion if possible rather than asking for a doggy bag as i find most portions too much for me/

Very strange nuno if that where the case then I would make sure the food left on the plate could not be recycled in any way,cover with sauce etc and any other condiment you can get your hands on.

I'm sure the restaurant is not re-cycling the leftovers!

Again, it's probably to do with H&S .... if someone keeps the food for days at home and becomes sick, then blames the restaurant.

this s quite a smartish restaurant so I am sure they would not serve childs portions . I COULD ask , as shyness and I are strangers !

if my mum goes to eat out where ever it maybe! she does what glammanana sujest!! mashes everything up sprinkled pepper and salt on and sausage she cuts everything up....one thing though..when we stayed in a large hotel a couple of yrs ago in Scarborough there was obviously a full breakfast menu,, the sausages well!! were sort of cheap nasty ones....but on the menu the day after was pasta with "meatballs" the only thing was!!! the meatballs were not round!! they were "cut up sausages" and !! another hotel we went to in Llandudno, the evening meal had small boiled new potatoes on....the day after we had "small sliced fried potatoes on our breakfast"!!!! at home if we have bits of left overs as the potatoes, then yes I will try and make use of them in maybe an omelette etc..but I know! where they have come from and who's plate.

Glad you enjoyed it Nonu. I was in our local Harvester a few weeks ago and they were putting some food into doggy bags for people who couldn't manage their whole meal.
