Delayed reaction to vaccine

On another chat type website in the UK there are lots of people talking about similar side effects and some who have felt that have full blown flu. Just like the virus, I suspect that reactions to the vaccine will differ from person to person.

As an aside, I would much prefer the AZ vaccine although I’d rather not have either but needs must. I’m afraid to use public transport unless absolutely necessary and keep within the guidelines. DH has not been so careful and is recovering from COVID-19. I have to travel a distance to see 2 of my 3 DDs so when it’s allowed they are the top priority for me. Happy to have any side effects rather than the virus.

My understanding of how vaccines work makes me think that either your immune response to the vaccine has kicked in and it's all working as it should be, or you've picked up another random virus and are having mild symptoms. It's fairly normal to feel like that after having vaccines for flu/flu like illnesses.

I, along with several colleagues, had the AstraZeneca (Oxford) vaccine first dose last weekend. Three of my colleagues have had two days off work due to the side effects - headaches, fluey symptoms, rashes, whereas I am only had a slight ache on my arm at the site the vaccine was delivered.

I feel very fortunate not to have experienced unpleasant side effects, and as it's now been four days since I had mine, I assume I am going to avoid them.

None of my colleagues have reported delayed symptoms so far.

My Mum had a bad headache and then a cold, she doesn't know if it was vaccine related or not just do as you would do normally if you had a flu, take something to bring a temperature down, drink lots of fluids and rest. I hope you feel better soon

I had the Pfizer vaccine two weeks ago, with no after effects. I expect everyone is different.

It's difficult to know if flu-like symptoms 5 days after a vaccination are related.

Had the Pfizer vaccine last Saturday, my arm was a bit sore for 24/48 hours afterwards but nothing that paracetamol couldn’t cope with. The organisation at the vaccine centre was nothing short of superb.

I had the Astra Zeneca vaccine on Monday, so four datys ago, and was counting myself lucky not to have suffered any side effects till I read that it can take a few days. My daughter had the same one yesterday and started being really poorly last night, terrible aches and pains and shivering with cold, then this morning she started with the worst headache she`s ever had. My son had the Pfizer one today, we`ll see how he goes on.

It’s a recording of a webinar which Prof Tim Spector of Kings College & Dr Anna Goodman of UCL gave yesterday, discussing what we know so far about the vaccines. Side effects were one of the questions they dealt with.

DH had Oxford jabs back in July/August as he was one of the Phase 3 trial participants. He felt very unwell for several days after the first vaccination, although not after the secod. We have had it confirmed that he received the vaccine and not the placebo.

I had the Pfizer jab. Within minutes, I couldn't even see the injection site and I have had absolutely no reaction of any kind to the vaccine

I had the Pfizer vaccine on Tuesday, I had a headache about two hours later& couldn’t stay awake for most of the following day. By the evening, I was back to normal & feel fine today.

DH had his his jab afternoon.
He had the AZ one, so, we shall see if he gets any side effects.

Just in case, I got him to all the jobs I had lined up for him this morning before he went.

I had the Pfizer one on monday, and have had a really achey wrist, elbow and back of my shoulder on that side.
I also felt a bit woozy the next day.

To be fair though, I've felt quite unwell for a long time now.

I had the Pfizer one with absolutely no side effects at all. My colleague was very headachey afterwards and was physically sick the day after. I think it all depends on the individual.

DH had the Pfizer one a last Thursday, I had the AZ one this Tuesday.
We both have had out-of- sorts- type days since, hard to tell whether they are related to the jabs or not.

I liked oopsadaisy's post, made me chuckle, . (wish there was a "like" thingy on GN).

They were "doing" two at a time when I had it.
The nurse with the other patient told her "before we start, I must tell you take 2 paracetamol as soon as you get home."

She was a bit taken aback, as was I (they say eavesdroppers never hear anything good)

He said there was no point sugar coating things.

My nurse said none of that to me.

When I was a child my parents used to take me and my 3 siblings to France each year camping - we had to have endless ‘jabs’ - typhoid, para typhoid, tetanus, polio boosters etc etc ! We all had different reactions.
So we will all have different reaction to the covid vacs. It’s common with baby jabs to be told to give calpol so I think it’s fine for us to take paracetamol if we feel rotten.

One interesting thing that came out of the webinar that I watched yesterday was that during the trials, the incidence of side effects in people who had the vaccine was the the same as in people who had the placebo.

Well, I think that's almost always the case with the placebo effect.

I was watching people in the waiting area, afterwards.

Some were rubbing their hand and arm, others just on their phones, checking their watches..

Mine was definitely not the placebo effect as I thought I had sailed through it over the weekend, having had it on the Friday, but on Tuesday I started to ache all over and had a headache which went on for three days. It was not bad enough to get a Covid test and also as I am shielding I hadn't been anywhere except to the doctor's surgery. I will see what happens at the next one.

I had the AZ jab fairly early in the morning a week ago. No reaction until around 12 hours later, when I suddenly had quite bad fluey shivers and shakes. Went straight to bed but had to get dh to bring up my usual cup of tea - I was so shaky I thought I’d spill it.
All fine again by the following morning though.
I was reassured by my reaction - it showed that something was happening!
Dh had same jab a week earlier, no reaction at all

I know a few people who had the two vaccines within two weeks (before they changed the rules). Every one of them sailed through the first jab, but was ill after the second one. I wonder if the longer time gap may be a good thing.
