Good Morning Everyone,
Its dark but dry outside here in Brackley this morning.
The usual early bus into Bicester , have a coffee and snack plus maybe a beer or two after , shop and hopefully talk to people I know.
Later have a Chinese take away , and then start the process of putting clocks back and hour before I retire to bed .
Health OK,
Take Care,
Mick

Good morning from Bristol. Of course, it’s still dark. I hope that the storm has passed without a trail of damage; it was extremely windy in the afternoon with very strong gusts. I was safe and warm indoors.
My “empty” was anything but. Yes, it was empty in that I saw no one and went nowhere, but the amount of stuff I needed to do “indoors”…. Usual laundry and so forth, but also loads of marmalade, etc.
I did source and try to buy a new ceramic hob, to replace my cracked one . I just couldn’t get to pay. In the end I telephoned a helpline, with a human, a very pleasant young man who navigated me through the hoops of modern technology. After about 30 minutes, I checked my bank account, but it hadn’t gone through. My phone went, and the young man was checking that the payment had been made - nope. We went through all the stuff again. Success? Not until it appeared on my account. Hurray, it did!
Very tired after my morning’s efforts, I did very little in the afternoon, even managing a short nap.
Today, I’m serving coffee in church using Wednesday’s baking.
I’ve got to finish the hospice bags and launch myself in the care leavers quilts.
May blue and bellas meeting go happily, hugs to both. I’m sorry that md is having such a rough time, but glad that she is finally taking a break. May all the others climbing mountains have an easy path down.

Ps. I get jet lagged with the extra hour tonight - makes me very crabby and takes me a week to readjust.

Good morning from Herefordshire where it is dark and rain is forecast.

Yesterday I ordered secondhand copies of the books I will need for the next four months for one of the book clubs I belong to. It can be quite a costly hobby.

Today my DD is visiting with the DGC so I need to dig out their toy boxes and hide the Christmas presents I've already bought for them.

Wishing all a happy Saturday.

Good morning from s somerset, rain and dark skies all day today

I used another scrap yesterday, just 0.6m for the top and only a pattern size 8 for me, makes a good change from 20 two years ago, steadily down to 14 and is now basically a 10/12 in a normal pattern I will have to do proper measurements for patterns in future, instead of just estimating

I like that layering top, the last one I made as a toile can now go, it was too big and the fabric was not nice. This fabric has warm fleece on the inside and is cosy

For over two years I have had my last very light meal by 3.30, hence the steady and slow weight loss. I never weigh myself

I have had no phone since about 2 pm yesterday, and could not receive PIN s which has been a dratted nuisance as I am in process of changing banks. It is banking two-step security which relies on PIN numbers. I can still get e mails and the internet is fine via plusnet but O2 is not. No access to anyone by phone. The O2 mast is not working for 5G in my local area at present

I will go and post my letters and just get on with indoor stuff when I get back, Ocado is arriving late morning anyway

Good morning from a dark, dry and still NE
Forecast is for strong winds later in the day. I will not be leaving the house.
No visitors today so I will read, do crosswords and watch TV.
DS sent photos from their sightseeing yesterday, Saltaire and Haworth, two places I have never visited.
Stay safe if you are in the path of the storm.

Good morning from a dry, wet Cornwall. The trees above my flat survived the violent winds but this one came down just along my road, such a shame. My home didn't lose power at all though here, ulike the thousands who did.

Today I have my annual flu jab and will then walk from the doctor's to the nearby beach before the wind rises again this afternoon. Am desperate to get to the coast and breathe sea air!

Good morning from Kerry, its dark and the rain is moderate at the moment, expected flooding but ok so far,I myself am on high ground so shouldn't affect our little collection of bungalows .
The rescue cat is stable but holding no expectations,he's a lovely black tom, but has underlining conditions and it depends on how he heals,my grandson understands but will be very sad if the cat dies, we had a Chinese takeaway last night and it was delicious dh had a Guinness and a shot of whiskey he didn't take his evening tablets, something he occasionally does, his decision, and in his position he feels ok with it,I can't force him to take them ,son came home after a long tiring day,he has left this morning for a 3 hour drive at around 4.30, praying he will be ok,
Dh enjoyed the daycentre and won twice at bingo, something he never would have played before the stroke and brain tumour, he enjoys the company outside the house, he attends 2 during the week, one he likes except for the music played, he likes Queen,Blur, etc and they play Daniel o'Donnel,Flanagan and Allen, but the company is important to him, and he looks forward to getting out,
My grandson has been helping me with taking stuff to the tip, charity shop, etc
And we had a morning in a town where he likes the cafe, being autistic he has certain foods he likes and the cafe give him his breakfast the way he likes,
Dd3 graduated from uni thursday too, we couldn't go but as only one person could go he took her partner and we got WhatsApp pics, tonight we are going for a family dinner in Killarney to celebrate, yesterday herself and partner hit the town with friends popping in first to show us her certificate,,,,and could I sew the side of her dress which she caught on something, a few stitches was all that was needed, beautiful dress, calf length in black,it was a busy day really, the weather never was as predicted for us ,

Good morning everyone from a bright and sunny Valletta. 7.30 here and we are just in the process of berthing in this beautiful harbour, not our usual berth as there is already another cruise ship in, so we will have to be tendered over to the main cruise terminal.

Managed my 4 laps around the deck yesterday; spent the rest of the time reading, and in the afternoon went to a tap- dancing class which I enjoyed. We had a delicious Mediterranean buffet dinner, an then went to an ABBA evening where I managed some dancing.

Shall get up shortly, have breakfast, and go ashore to meet Bellasnanna.

Wishing all a pleasant Saturday.

Photos are of our sail into Valletta

Good morning Michael and all GN's on a cold dark but still morning in Yorkshire. I am having a rough morning moving about at the moment , which is very frustating as there is much to do, but I am rather struggling , and on top of the usual problems I seem to have put my head in some odd way, so that my neck is quite painful. I am busy sorting things out but hopefully the joys of the shower will improve matters and I will loosen off a bit more. At the moment no sign of any wind or problems here and I will be checking things carefully and making sure I have all sorts of extra things spare torches etc with me before I get off today.

Yesterday was a mixed day, with a lot of bits and pieces that added to the hassle of the day, but at least there were some positives. I had got ready to go early to the meeting at the library, but it was so wet and horrible I went in the car, and so had to go very early , to be sure of getting one of the two disabled parking spaces. But they were doing the NHS App, and so I reasoned that if I got there very early I could park up and be at the front of the queue with the people and get the app done safely and properly. Huh! Yes with quite a bit of pain and creaking I did manage to go with my plans and hobbled firstly up to the room with our group in and chose an appropriate seat and put a bag there to "claim" it and then got myself back to the lift and down to the app people. Only to find that they were not starting until the afternoon, which was somewhat frustating, but I was lucky as a gentleman heard me ask if there was a queuing system etc as I would be up at the other course etc and said that he was actually free if I wanted to do it then. Hurrah! A winner for once. There was quite a lot of noise as there was a childrens group there doing an activity, so we took ourselves off to a quieter area and I produced my phone, id with my driving licence and nhs number etc etc. So we began, but no, despite him sitting next to me and our checking every step of the way , the wretched thing would not go through. Well the library is not the best of signals and of course there had been all this about the problems with the internet and people rushing to reorganise their safety, so it could have just been the extra work going on. After 3 efforts which didnt work, I suggested that we go up to the next level, where my other group was based, and it would mean that I would be there for when it started and anyone came, but we might get a better chance there. We duly went up and tried again and by this time people were beginning to come in. The one good thing was that I had the expert with me and he wasnt doing any better. That is always my hassle when doing something on my own and it goes wrong or wont work as I tend to think it is my fault. So I then agreed to come back to him after this group and he went off a bit frustrated , and was saying he hadnt had any problems like this before! (I just thought , well you havent had me to deal with before. If anything is going to go wrong it will be with me!)

I was glad to have picked the best chair for being able to see around, and told the young man that I was in quite a lot of pain, and therefore would be joining in , but that I would have to stay in the chair and wouldnt be able to get up and down easily or reach for things easily. Pleased to see that he had brought the curling, which I much preferred and with the stick would be able to have a go.

There were fewer people in the group that morning, but we got on well, and I am learning the level of "push " you need with it a bit more. We had several good different games in teams, and I was able to use up some of my frustration from the phone hassle, in looking carefully and getting quite good at sending the other teams stones flying off the mat, to their annoyance, but definitely calming and fun for me as I got my eye in for the distance. At the end of one game he then moved the mat further back and so we had to recalibrate our levels of strength and working out the amount of speed needed to get the stones to move over carpet.

I then went back down to the NHS app people but had quite a time to wait to see anyone, so at and went through some of my various papers and then the same chap arrived so we went off to find a quiet and hopefully better signal and had another go. There was still quite a bit of faffing about but at last hurrah it is done, safely and securely. I will be chceking it out a bit more today, but glad to have it sorted and thanked the man for his patience and help and he said it had been quite useful for him to see the problem areas , which he expected to find with others, and that the problems with the internet and safety stuff meant that they had had quite a lot of problems themselves so it was not just me.

By this time I was very hungry and had various other things I needed to do , and so got back to the car and set off down the town. The plan was to park if there was a space near where I wanted to go, and if no space to come home and get something to eat and then go back out. So no space, came home and was feeling very creaky and began to put stuff away and plan what to do next, when suddenly thought that I must get fuel for today and fill up as the weather was going to be poor, so shot off to the garage and did that and it seemed half the afternoon gone by before I even started looking stuff out for today. Typically fell asleep in the chair, annoyingly and so gave up and went to bed.

So now here I am checking on the weather, what I need to take, spare this and that, and then deciding my best route to go and meet the family. After all the problems my son got to the hospital yesterday for them to say that they had sent a message to him to cancel the appointment, which he hadnt got!! So I had been worrying for nothing all the day and he had had a very frustrating day of course. The one thing is he said that things seemed to finally be improving a little, so fingers crossed. He wont be driving today, and his partner willbe doing the driving and none of us have been to K Lonsdale for some time, so it will be good to meet upin our old haunts and trusting that the good cafe will be open, even if the weather is poor we shall have a warm and comfortable place to meet in. We have been there quite a few times and we sit up in a corner out of the way, and they are fine with us. If the weather is really awful we often just stay there if it is not busy. We usually start with coffees etc and then a bit later we get some lunch there and end up buying bread and perhaps cake on the way out to take home, so we are an occasional visitor but a quiet and reasonable group, and so especially when it is winter and not so many tourists about I think we are seen as a group they are pleased to welcome. We have gone there so often that the waitress will come and tell my son if his favourite things are on the menu! Long may they remain there!

If we keep the decent weather we may have a short walk along the river and go and investigate whether the army/navy kind of store is back up and running. We wont stay too long though with todays forecast, but at least if things turn out that we cant meet up again before christmas we have had had today and more importantly I shall feel much better to see my son and hear all about the way things are going. Emails are fine but seeing them all in the flesh is really the best thing to calm anxious thoughts and I will be able to hear from my grandson how he is settling in at his new school and to be able to give them all a hug! I shall then come home and be glad to just stay in tomorrow, batten down the hatches, and have a day of finally getting the ironing all finished, the rest of the summer things put away, and sorting the clocks out so that fingers crossed I will be able to face next week in a better state. Well we shall see what happens, the weather will be the main thing that rules what happens.

I hope that your trip to Bicester goes well Mick and the clock sorting is easy. You dont always realize how many clocks you have with various things like the heaters and the cooker timers etc to alter. I still havent found my watch, despite checking in all pockets in cots and jackets so hope that turns up tomorrow in the great sort out. GrandMattie glad you managed with your hob in the end. Maybe the general hassle going on added to your problems, Hope you get a good few to your cafe today, and get safely home . Wishing all GN's a safe day, with no loss of power or damages to precious things. If you have any tallish standard roses I would be inclined to prune them down a bit so that the wind cant wreck them. Keep safe and warm folks

Good morning all from a still dark North Leicestershire. It isn't very warm.

Eye jab went ok yesterday thankfully but doing nothing for 24 hours after is really frustrating. The instructions are not really to do nothing, just not to bend over. It is amazing how many times one would naturally just bend over in the course of a day so I just sit down and get waited on. DH's PMR means he can't reach up so I do that when needed.

Have the best day possible everyone.

EkwaNimitee Sat 24-Oct-26 07:22:21

Good morning Mick and everyone from dark and dry Carlisle.
It rained and rained yesterday, worst in the afternoon.

I went out early, stopping at the small supermarket in the next village. The village car park was unusually full, not shoppers but dog walkers as there are lovely riverside walks from it. I guess they were limiting their rain exposure, which didn't always work as one ruefully showed me his sodden sweater under his obviously inadequate jacket!
Onto the deli/butcher where I got the pheasant and partridge breasts I'd come for. I ogled the fine selection of local venison, what a price a small haunch has become! The place was stuffed with delectable Christmas goodies but I managed to leave minus any and moved on to the garden centre.
The cafe was busy but I was the only one who ventured outside, I needed compost which one of the staff carried out to my car, impervious to the rain.
The afternoon was spent doing nothing useful though I should have been attending to admin, that's today's job, after I have been out for the papers and a short walk.

BlueSapphire is luckily avoiding the bad weather here, enjoy Valletta, what a fine harbour it is. And best wishes to Bellasnana.

Wishing you all the best possible day1

Good morning from a dark northwest coast. Enjoyable art yesterday, catching up with friends I haven’t seen for a bit. Had my Covid jab and no bad side effects, just feel a little tired.
In today, keeping out of the weather but still undecided about going to the theatre tonight. I haven’t booked and there are seats left, but I feel like a lazy day.

I noticed yesterday on my phone that I had missed a doctor’s appointment. I think it’s a follow up on my high blood pressure or my blood test. Will ring on Monday to rearrange.
Rang plumber to put a new radiator into the kitchen. It’s linked to the radiator in the bedroom downstairs my DD uses on her frequent visits.

Nice top karma, you are a busy bee! Lovely Valletta, I had the pleasure of singing there and hope you have a good meet-up BlueSapphire.
Thoughts to all and a drawing, ink and bleach🌺

Shel1951 Sat 24-Oct-26 07:30:54

Spoke to soon, the wind is roaring round the house, still dark and my long haired ragdoll cat has come in through the open window looking like a wet mop looking for a cuddle.

RosesandLilac Sat 24-Oct-26 07:30:55

Good morning, dry and dark (obviously!) here in south Glos. Lots of leaves, mainly beech and hazel, came fluttering down during the brief episodes of wind and rain yesterday. Luckily it was nowhere near as rough as forecast despite being on top of a hill. I did get slightly damp going out to pick some berries to draw but otherwise had a quiet day here.
I did finish the first sock for my friend, I will get on with the other one today.
I enjoy sock knitting but there’s a limit to how many pairs I need as I rarely wear the ones I make (they’re too warm for me or have merino wool which I find itchy despite washing in wool detergent etc) I must have made well over 60 pairs over the last 10 years or so and given most of them away. I will make DDIL and the DGSs a pair each next.
I am going to make an effort to wear more of my nicer clothes instead of just jeans and tops; it’s either that or give them away to the charity shop as they just sit unworn in my wardrobes. I need to dig out tights from the bottom of the wardrobe if I do!
Anyway, I hope that today is quiet for you all. The clocks go back tonight so, like grandMattie I will be grouchily discombobulated for the next week 🙄
Best wishes for everyone x
🌹

Morning from a dark S Hants, 8. The wind and rain wasn’t too bad yesterday, more today, particularly rain.
MrJ has a bowls match this afternoon, not sure what I’ll do.
Visit to GP yesterday re my reflux which is normally kept in abeyance by drugs, result is to double up said medication.
Have a good meet up Madeleine
You too BlueSapphire hug to Bellas.

Good Morning from Durham. It’s still dark here, so I’ve no idea what’s going on outside.
DD1 and family are off to Majorca today, it may be a bumpy take-off. She’s so busy and stressed with a new job, that I hardly see her or DGS1, but I understand. I hope the holiday is relaxing with some decent weather.
I have no plans for today, but must stir a leg in the house and remove some dust. I’ve lost my mojo with the garage - weeks since I put my car away, so that needs to be rectified. Hopefully, I will see DD2 and DGS2 at some point.

I expect Marydoll is following orders and putting herself first for a while.

Best wishes to all. X

Good morning from a dry but chilly corner of La Sarthe.

Yesterday we had some very strong winds for most of the day. We kept safely indoors. DH expected power cuts but we had only one brief interruption to our supply. We hope the weather is more settled for our crossing from Ouistreham to Portsmouth tomorrow.

Stay safe and warm, everyone. Remember: tghinot kcab og skcolc ehT!

Good morning from still and dry South Lanarkshire.

Yesterday was quiet, I did some crochet and watched a documentary about Aberfan. My son who was with me hadn’t been aware of what happened, he shed tears as did I.

As we are expecting bad weather today we won’t be doing very much so crochet will feature again.

Glad you survived the storm without damage Madeleine.

Good wishes to Bellasnana.

Have the best day possible everyone.

Gelisa Sat 24-Oct-26 07:40:14

Good morning Mick and all from Morecambe bay where it is dry at the moment but the wind and rain is set to increase over the day and will likely be quite unpleasant by this evening. It will be fun trying to get CDog out of the door tonight. He hates the rain. DH will give him a longer walk this morning so he will only need a short walk tonight.
You are definitely in the right place BlueSaphire. Enjoy your day.
I have an annoying pain in my back and side which I think could be a pulled muscle from cavorting about in dance class the other day but there’s a little nagging doubt that my gall bladder is playing up. I do hope not! I shall take more paracetamol and get busy while DH is out. I need to tackle my craft room/music room/ study/ junk room and make some space to actually do something creative in there over the winter. DH has finally made some new feet to replace the broken one on our electric piano which is moving into the lounge. We took one of the chairs to the recycling centre recently to make room for it. Neither of us play a note but the children are musical hence buying the piano. It’s been collecting dust for years but this could be the new brain challenge for us both.
Take care everyone 🌸

Gagagran Sat 24-Oct-26 07:42:14

Good Morning everyone from another windy central south coast. Glad of the CH coming on as I feel chilly. I had a disturbed night and don't feel as if I have had enough sleep so a nap may well feature later.

I managed to finish the wardrobe changeover yesterday with some help from DH and now have two bags of donations for the Salvation Army charity. We also paid the plumber who finally popped his bill through the letterbox.

I have got a small gammon joint in the slow cooker which will make easy meals for a day or two and we both enjoy it. I got another one in the Tesco delivery yesterday and that is now in the freezer ready for the Christmas period. A real bargain at £3.50 on clubcard offer.

Hope all the planned events go as planned today and that those feeling unwell have a better day. Take care everyone and make sure your hatches are well battened down in readiness for the next storm.

Greyduster Sat 24-Oct-26 07:44:31

Good morning, Michael and all GNs from South Yorkshire where it is only just getting light and there is an amazing sunrise going on. It seems ominously calm at the moment but high winds and rain are expected later. It was thrashing the trees around yesterday evening.

I took the car to school yesterday and managed to get a space in the car park, but on leaving, a parent collecting a child had parked across the back of me and didn’t seem to think he needed to move. He wasn’t even occupying a space - merely sitting in the middle of the roadway. I asked him nicely if he would move and he said “you can get a bus through there!” I told him that as I wasn’t driving a bus and as there was nothing wrong with my spatial awareness, I knew exactly where my car would go and where it wouldn’t we risked an almost certain coming together all because he wouldn’t move back about four feet!!. Was he willing to take that chance? No he wasn’t. I had enjoyed my afternoon up until that point!

In the evening I watched an episode of Sam and Ade Go Birding, which was filmed at RSPB Bempton Cliffs, an amazing venue where DH and I spent many happy times watching the sea birds. It was a truly stunning piece of television. It’s been an excellent series all round. I rounded off my evening with two episodes of All Creatures Great and Small. These dark evenings throw me back more and more on the television. I hate the winter.

I will do an early food shop this morning as I may not be able to get out later. It’s going to be a long weekend.

Have the best day you can, folks.

Redcar Sat 24-Oct-26 07:55:31

Good morning everyone from mid Essex. Dry, bright, clear and cold here so far, but a wet afternoon is forecast. Fortunately we missed the worst of storm Austen yesterday and hope we miss the gales of storm Boelo today.
I pottered about yesterday, tidying and sorting out some necessary admin tasks, but didn’t go out.
I have some letters to post but they can wait until Monday if it rains!
I hope to see family today, DD1 is busy all afternoon and tomorrow, so it may be a brief visit this morning.
bluesapphire I hope you have a good meeting with bellasnana and I hope that she is feeling better.

marzipan I’m pleased that you survived the storm unscathed, but that is/was a very large tree! I hope you have a good walk along a beach today, I’m green with envy!

Have the best day possible everyone, enjoy the last of “British summer time”.

latedecember1963 Sat 24-Oct-26 07:58:46

Good morning everyone from Anglesey. We had a good journey yesterday. It was blustery along parts of the A55, but everyone was driving sensibly and there were no hold ups.

We swapped the LC from the cot into a bed last night which made for an interesting evening. It was very late when he finally conked out hence he is still fast asleep.

Not sure what our plans are for today. We see what the weather does.

Gorgeous photos, BlueSaphire. Hope you have a lovely meetup with Bellasnana. Give her my love.

Howarth was one of my Mum's favourite places, Harrigran. We plan to scatter her ashes on the moors looking down when we can get a date when everyone who wishes to be there can attend. Probably next summer around her birthday. In the meantime she's ensconced in the spare room where I sense she's quite happy.

Lovely picture, hollysteers. You are so talented.

What a shame about that tree, Marzipan22, but at least it didn't hurt anyone.

Wishing you all the best day Saturday possible and I'm hoping you all stay safe if you're somewhere stormy. 🌻
