We are having some roofing work done soon and DH (81 but quite fit) decided he would go up and see for himself before the roofers came to quote. I shoild add that we have used the same roofers for years and they are very trustworthy.

He missed his footing, stepped out of his shoe's and cut his foot on a slate. It bled profusely and we are on the way to the urgent care centre.

Definitely!

kittylester Fri 21-Aug-26 14:42:15

I should add that i told him not to but then went out.

Aldom Fri 21-Aug-26 14:44:14

Oh dear Kitty, thank goodness it was not worse and DH fell off the roof.
These hospital emergency programmes often feature 'older men ' who insisted, against the wisdom of their wives, on doing a roof repair/inspection!
It's a YES, from me. 🤣
But wishing DH a good recovery of course. I doubt he'll do anything like that again. 😂

I know this isn't a laughing matter, but it has still made me laugh picturing your husband climbing up on the roof. Hope everything turns out OK.

Perhaps a short legal separation or a legal telling off but not divorce, well not for the first time !!

Cossy Fri 21-Aug-26 14:54:33

All I can say is, for or not, that would highly irresponsible and thank goodness it wasn’t so much worse!

I do wish him a speedy and full recovery, but I’d be livid with him!

Cossy Fri 21-Aug-26 14:55:25

Sorry…. First line should be, fairly fit or not…

grannyqueenie Fri 21-Aug-26 14:59:16

I’d say so……why can’t they just listen, especially as we’re always right?!
Maybe I should read this out to my old boy, who despite anything I say, insists on climbing the steep ladder to the loft wearing sloppy old slippers! confused
Hope Mr KL has not done too much
damage to his foot, just enough to keep him off that roof! smile

kittylester Fri 21-Aug-26 15:51:58

I doubt he'll do anything like that again

Aldom you are joking off course.grin

AGAA4 Fri 21-Aug-26 16:11:29

If he won't do as he is told then definitely grounds for divorce.
Joking aside this could have been so much worse.

Georgesgran Fri 21-Aug-26 16:13:01

Get him sectioned, then go on holidays until the roofers are finished.

Grandmabatty Fri 21-Aug-26 16:19:08

Oh Kitty. I really hope he is ok.

welbeck Fri 21-Aug-26 16:19:58

Lock up the ladders.
Give key to roofers.
Or in the middle of large tin of self raising flour.
Make sure he gets a tetanus jab.
Lot of filth on roofs.
Don't want it to turn into disease.
All the best.

A little harsh possibly but I see your point.

Doodledog Fri 21-Aug-26 16:28:19

They are hopeless, aren't they? grin

It's reassuring to know they're (mostly) all the same, though.

DH tried to come down the wrong side of a A frame ladder once. The side with no steps. He fell into the rockery, banging his head on a rock. Ambulance etc… but he was okay. Knocked a bit of sense into him hopefully .

I hope your DH recovers soon. You won’t be surprised to hear that mine does similar things!

Grannybags Fri 21-Aug-26 17:07:22

Well I hope you did a pre-nup! 😂

Seriously though I hope he recovers quickly

If you are still sitting there lots of time for reflection?!?! Hope he is ok

M0nica Fri 21-Aug-26 17:58:51

I do hope your DH recovers soon.

My DH, after a triple bypass with complications, heart pacemaker and landing himself in hospital for a week followed by having the Riot Act read to him by his GP has finally accepted that we have to employ an electrician to do the electrical work on our current house renovation.

He is an excellent electrician and several professional electricians have been happy to work alongside him and have approved his work, so that is not the problem, but in his determination to keep doing electrics, which he loves doing, he was working way above his fitness level and making his health even worse, until as said, ending up in hospital.

and, yes, divorce, frequently occurred to me.

Parsley3 Fri 21-Aug-26 18:20:51

My son has borrowed our long ladders but he refuses to give them back to stop his dad from using them. I hope Mr K is recovering well, Kitty.

Well yes! He’s also got two chain saws! 😮

Grammaretto Fri 21-Aug-26 18:53:51

Well done Parsley's son
Definitely grounds for divorce Kitty
I hope he is ok and gets a big row at A&E so you don't have to.
