Netflix series. We started watching this and have seen 4 episodes. I simply cannot stand it! (My husband likes it).
Set in Victorian Ireland, late 1800s. The costumes and sets are what is probably a good rendition of the styles of the time. The language and behaviour of the main characters, however, is very far removed from what is generally accepted as the customs and manners of that era.
The F word in constant - and I mean repetative - use, by the women as well as the men. Call me old-fashioned by this was hardly ever heard (certainly on tv) until very recently. Women - especially those in the upper classes - would NEVER have used it. OK is another modern expression not even invented at the time. I know we can't and probably don't want real Victorian-speak, but some attempt and the style and manners of the time would suffice. What do they think?
This came recommended. Huh!!
