Good morning from a slightly hazy Bristol. Once again there is a lovey through breeze between the open front door and my bedroom. The heat is more tolerable, only becoming hard to deal with in the late afternoon.
It’s the anniversary of the storming of the Bastille today, a date embedded in my psyche from my French ancestors. France will now close down until 15 August!
Yesterday gave me several bargains at Tesco, the best was a small tray of strawberries for £2, half price. I mentioned it to several mothers with small children.
DS apparently came back yesterday, because he’s taking DGD and I out (IKEA!) and lunch.
I’ll bake first thing, then enjoy my boy.
Have a good day all. Carpe diem 🦩🦩🦩🦩

RosesandLilac Tue 14-Jul-26 05:17:22

Good morning, a lovely cool start to the day again here in south Glos, it’s so nice to be able to breathe easily.
Yesterday I went into town for my hearing aid check, all’s good so that’s a relief.
I did buy a few bits and pieces, mainly yellow sticker food in Waitrose for a change.
A complete stranger cornered me as I walked from the car, and went on and on about how shops should open earlier in hot weather. As it was 9am I wasn’t sure what shops she was talking about. Most peculiar!
Telephone consultation this morning, which might or might not be a pre-op. Hoping it is!
Housework etc this morning, nothing else happening.
Hope today goes well for you all x

Good morning from s somerset, the very slow decline in temperature continues and I am grateful for one degree less per day

Gosh I was tired by bedtime yesterday, I was at the allotment for a couple of hours at the end of the day and I carried eight cans of water, also picked a trug full of produce. I noticed that already several squash are forming

I am doing less today, maybe some sewing as I am clearing old stash at a rate of knots. I will have more bits to give away to the cs later today. I will only be keeping on top of essentials today in the house, having done a big stack of washing yesterday, all put away too.

A cooked meal from the freezer is on the cards today, I fancy a change from salads

Ashcombe Tue 14-Jul-26 05:29:33

Good morning from La Sarthe following another hot day and night with more to come. In the night there was some lightning and rumbles of thunder but no rain which is desperately needed here.

Good luck with your appointment, RosesandLilac, whatever it is! And Mick at the optician’s.

Enjoy your day out with different generations of the family, grandMattie.

My DGD, 13, is also in France but with her school on an activities week in the Dordogne. She is the one who dances but I know she’ll enjoy the change and the camaraderie of this kind of break.

Have a good day, everyone! 🦩🥰😎💐🦩

Good morning from Malta where it’s already 26°C and rising to 39°C later. Evidently we are due for a period of extreme heat and the usual advice from the government has been published.

I had a surprise message from my friend to ask if I fancied a coffee yesterday. I looked like the wrath of God having showered but not done my face. I did a quick change of outfit, decided my face would have to lump it, and did a quick march up to the village, calling at the pharmacy and bank before meeting my pal. We had a lovely catch up before I hoofed back in the very hot sun, ready for my Treasures.

They arrived fast asleep so spent an hour on their bed. I just love watching them sleep, those dear little legs curled up, two little dark heads on the pillows. I wish I could freeze time as it all passes too fast.

grandMattie my parents were married on 14th July and mother always reminded us it was the anniversary of Bastille Day!

I’m having my roots done at the new hairdresser today. My lovely hairdresser is still recovering from her surgery.

Then I shall do my packing as tomorrow I’m taking DD3 and the boys to Mallorca for a few days. I will be ticking the Rafa Nadal Museum off my bucket list, and there are lots of things for the boys to do. It’s going to be as hot there as it is here so I won’t need to pack a cardi!😂😂

Wishing you all a good day. Thoughts always with our troubled friends.🤗☀️

Good morning from my hotel room on the Wirral where it's stiflingly hot but I'll be heading home to Cornwall in a couple of hours. I really, really hope for air-conditioned trains! I'll be home by 6.30 this evening hopefully, the final leg of my journey being by bus.

Ashcombe Tue 14-Jul-26 05:44:48

A long day’s travelling, Marzipan22: I do hope the trains behave! 🤞

latedecember1963 Tue 14-Jul-26 05:45:03

Good morning everyone from Anglesey.

Yesterday was a pottering about day, with 2 loads of laundry washed and dried. I set up the paddling pool on the decking.

I deployed CBeebies as a distraction from being outside in the hot sun while I made lunch. I'm conscious of the research that says under 5s should have a maximum of 1 hour screen time per day, including tv, so we usually wait until teatime for The Clangers and In the Night Garden. Sometimes needs must and I don't want him getting sunburnt.

Not sure what today holds. Hope the day brings good things to you all. 🌻

Marzipan22 Tue 14-Jul-26 05:47:31

Yep, so do I Ash! 🤗

latedecember1963 Tue 14-Jul-26 05:54:28

What a beautiful description of your grandsons fast asleep, Bellasnana! 💖💖
Hope your epic trip home goes smoothly, Marzipan22. You'll be glad to sleep in your own bed tonight.

Good morning from Stockport.
My lunch out yesterday ended badly when I had a gastric attack totally out of the blue, I made it to the loo but it was not good.
Enough of that however, my friend was the only one aware and I made it home ok.
I have felt unwell since, a quiet day today.
Temperatures although forecast to be lower this week are still very high to me.
I hope you can all find something good about today.

Ladyleftfieldlover Tue 14-Jul-26 06:13:20

Morning all from a soon to be hot West Oxfordshire.

I was woken up by one of the parent birds in the nest just below my bedroom window.

Yesterday was busy with the weekly shop, a trip to the Pharmacy and an afternoon at the monthly craft group where I finished off a collage. I had been working on it for ages but it is finally finished.

A tiny picture of a cat arrived yesterday. I had bought it at the RA Summer Exhibition. A good thing it is small as I am running out of walls.

I will pop round to a friend’s after lunch. She has the most wonderful dog which was given to her after she was widowed last year.

I’d like a bit more sleep but that d****d bird is still cheeping!

Have a good day.

Melanie61 Tue 14-Jul-26 06:19:12

Good morning from Sheffield

I’m feeling a bit better today, I have caught up with my sleep.
Nothing exciting today. I am working and then a quiet evening. I’m looking forward to the new series of Sewing Bee tonight and the new presenter Sophie Willan, she is funny.

Take care everyone flowers

Greyduster Tue 14-Jul-26 06:45:12

Good morning, Michael and all GNs from South Yorkshire where it is blissfully cool and overcast at the moment.

Yesterday was a very long day of travelling. Early start, late finish, when I went to my oldest friend’s funeral. We had known each other for over sixty years. I don’t get emotional at funerals, but last night when I came home I felt as if something had ended in me too. I felt quite ill all evening.

Today it will be nice to get back to something normal. This afternoon will be my last session at school for this academic year. Will they want me back in September? Who knows!

Have the best day you can, folks.

Georgesgran Tue 14-Jul-26 06:48:23

Good morning from a cool, gloomy Durham. We might see a bit of sun and a temperature barely 20 late afternoon.
I have another dental appointment this morning, then home as I have DD2’s Little Dog here and a bag of her laundry to see to. A Tesco shop later and I’ll walk the dog before dark, then deadhead my roses and water various plants and pots.

Good luck with the various medical appointments. Hope MD is ok.
Best wishes to all. X

Astitchintime Tue 14-Jul-26 06:51:58

Good morning from a cool NE Mids. Nothing in particular planned for today, AC all at work, and GC also at work or school depending on their ages so I won’t be seeing anyone until the weekend unless one of the youngsters needs collecting from school early.
Have a good day one and all!

GrannyGravy13 Tue 14-Jul-26 07:05:04

Good morning from a cloudy but warm S E Essex.

A day of nothing stretched ahead, truffling with an old Penny Vincenzi book (A Question of Trust) I will persevere, it’s not bad enough to stop (yet)

I must admit that I am not very good at doing nothing nor obeying doctors orders . I am extremely frustrated at having my wings clipped

Wishing you all a,good day, safe journeys to the travellers 🙋‍♀️

ginny Tue 14-Jul-26 07:05:44

Good morning from a cool N. Bucks. Not feeling too great as yesterday did not turn out as expected. Our next door neighbour fell in her hallway and the emergency call people were not able to get her up due to pain on movement. They called for an ambulance but of course were not able to stay with her . So, I went in to sit with her. We waited over 5 hours for it to arrive and then of course about another hour before they took her off to hospital. Consequently it was past eight I was hungry and I just ate the easiest thing . Being diabetic that’s no a good idea and this morning I am feeling the effects of. Hopefully it will settle down quickly.
I am due to have lunch with 3 friends so will stick to something plain.
Later we will pop up to see DD3 and the two boys. Should have gone yesterday and have missed them whilst we have been away.
Wishing all a good day.

HelterSkelter1 Tue 14-Jul-26 07:11:17

Good morning from a cool breezy N Surrey. Love it. The forecast temp this afternoon will be 32 deg. I shall have to have a nap/siesta.

These hot days are so tiring. Anyone living in a hot country tell me how your day evolves. Very early start? Afternoon nap? Air con? I think I shall have to devise a radical change to my day. If the supermarket opened at 7 or earlier I would be there.

However this morning the cool breeze is wonderful and I shall go and water some thirsty plants.

Gagagran Tue 14-Jul-26 07:12:28

Good Morning everyone from the central south coast where it is still warm, dry and breezy. No sign of much change in the forecast for us so, we continue to glow. (Horses sweat, gentlemen perspire but ladies glow).

Sorry you had such an unfortunate incident UTBB, whilst out for lunch. My innards can be unreliable so I entirely sympathise. Hope you feel better and more in control today.

Some nice outings with family members planned for today in Bristol and Malta - enjoy! These days will not come again and time is so fleeting. I would dearly love to see more of my family but distance and physical issues preclude that.

We shall be watching the Tour de France today when it resumes after the rest day yesterday - much needed after the heat in France and the riders' extreme exertions. Two more weeks to go too. Bastille day will no doubt be celebrated by the many spectators on the route.

Safe travels to all on the move and good luck with medical appointments. Hope those with worries and struggles have some relief today.

HelterSkelter1 Tue 14-Jul-26 07:16:27

ginny your poor neighbour. That is a very long wait. Who are the emergency people to call out for a fall? I hope she didn't then have to wait in AE to be treated or admitted.

How kind of you to sit with her for so long.

monk08 Tue 14-Jul-26 07:20:13

Good morning all from a sunny Black country.
Second load of washing on catching up after our weekend with our friends from Portsmouth, although they didn't stay with us sleeping at a nearby hotel a busy time as they were here early morning until late evening .
Today we are having a gas smart meter fitted not by choice but our meter is old and due for renewal.
Safe travels those on the move, hope all goes well with any medical appointments.
Have a good day everyone whatever your plans and stay cool 😎.

ginny Tue 14-Jul-26 07:22:30

Helterskelter she has one of those neck cords. I think she pays something per month. In case of accidents she pushes a button and they attend to help.
I expect someone can explain better than me.

luluaugust Tue 14-Jul-26 07:25:18

Good morning from an overcast W Kent. It was lovely to see DGS3 yesterday and catch up with his interesting life. I then saw him off this morning at 5.15, he said he had a good sleep I of course didn’t.
Today is the U3A AGM and monthly meeting in a cool local church, quiet the rest of the day I hope
What a day ginny hope everything settles down
Best wishes
