Good morning all from a sunny Maastricht.
I will join you today and share my picturesque view from our balcony in our apartment as I eat my breakfast. It’s lovely and cool on here.
Today we are going in a boat trip down the River Maas (our view from the front of the apartment) is where are heading into Belgium and Liege for a few hours. I love this country everyone is so relaxed and friendly.

Enjoy your day everyone. I hope it cools didn’t for when we are home later in the week.
Incidentally workmen have appeared working on the roof of the church 4 of them. Not a hard hat in sight.

Good morning. From Shetland . It’s dull today following a glorious day day yesterday. We added to the wildlife total with thousands of seabirds which we could see on the cliffs as we went round small islands in a boat. Gannets guillemots razorbills kittiwakes arctic skewers amongst the sitings. We did the trip in the afternoon after climbing Shetland’s highest hill in the morning.
Today’s plans to visit the two most northerly islands are up in the air as we can’t get a ferry booking at the times we had planned. It shows how popular Shetland has become. We’ve never had a problem before in twenty odd years! Take care everyone 🌸

Good morning Mick and everyone from sunny Carlisle. We have a cool northeasterly breeze which is keeping the temperature down most of the day inside though it gets stuffy by late afternoon. I'm still finding it too hot to do anything physical outside so I'm getting cabin fever!
I was going to go to the garden centre this morning, I have a space or two to fill but really there's no point if it's too hot to plant and then it will need careful watering. I've got plenty of that to do already.

I'll crack on with some housework and get out somewhere, anywhere tomorrow I think.

Enjoy the day if you can folks.

Good morning everyone from mid Essex. The cloud is clearing already but it’s still cool out. Yesterday it was lunchtime before the cloud cleared so it was a very cool breezy morning. I met a friend for coffee and then had a browse in the shop at the RHS garden.

I need to go to the garden centre for some birthday cards and more compost, and will see my dementia friend later. I hope her DH has the patio door open, otherwise I’ll suffocate!

marzipan I hope you have a trouble free and comfortable journey home today.

bellasnana have a lovely few days in Majorca with your DD and your treasures!

utbb and ginny I hope you both feel better today, somehow the heat makes being unwell feel worse.

grannygravy enforced inactivity is frustrating isn’t it? Even when it’s really too hot to do anything anyway! I hope that your body is responding well to the rest.

Have the best day you can everyone.

HelterSkelter1 Tue 14-Jul-26 07:41:43

ginny thank you for that info.

brook2704 Tue 14-Jul-26 07:42:43

Good morning everyone from Inverness where it’s warm with light grey clouds, sunshine later
Take it easy today ginny after a stressful day yesterday, hope your neighbour is doing ok
Yesterday I enjoyed pottering in the garden, mainly weeding and cutting back. I’ll not get much chance again today as I’m meeting a friend for coffee this morning at the garden centre and then I’ve the hairdressers this afternoon.
Lovely pictures grandmadinosaurand gelisa enjoy your holidays and everyone else away just now
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐

Good morning all from a really dull and miserable Suffolk coast.

We had a lovely day mooching round the Maltings and then spent the afternoon in the hotel.

Have the best day possible everyone.

Good morning from a cool and cloudy Suffolk where it is supposed to be sunny and hot unlike yesterday when both DH and I needed jumpers on in the house. It was 22 degrees but I think we had adjusted to the hot weather well and therefore felt chilly in the evening.

I am still awaiting a phonecall from the garage after leaving my car there yesterday for a service and MOT. When asked if I had noticed any problems I said I thought one of the side lights was out. My confidence that that was the only problem was dented when they phoned mid morning to say I needed a new tyre, work on the brakes etc with an estimate stretching into 4 figures!

We have used the local main dealer for nearly 40 years and trust them to do a good job so the work was authorised. No choice really but I do value the freedom of having a car especially since we are 2 miles away from very limited public transport.

Hope today is a good one for all and those on holiday continue to enjoy this hot weather.

Gingster Tue 14-Jul-26 07:52:51

Good morning all and it’s beautifully cool at the moment.

Today I’m hopping on the train , just two stops, to meet my ‘oldest’ pal for coffee for a couple of hours. I won’t go to Bridge today as I don’t like leaving Dh all day. Also I have to go up to town to take papers to the solicitors., DIL came and we went through it all together so hopefully we’re nearly there. 😤. My lovely neighbour came in to witness our signatures . He felt quite important, I think 😉.

I hope you’re feeling better today Utbb. That feeling is horrible especially when you’re out.

GG 💐.
Safe and troublefree journey wished for you Marzipan.

Take care all 🌺

Grandmabatty Tue 14-Jul-26 07:58:29

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 13° and cloudy. I think its a sea haar so might burn off later. Its very still. Grandmadinosaur enjoy your river cruise. marzipan safe journey home today.
Yesterday, for whatever reason, I felt more energetic than I have for a while. I did 2 lots of weeding then polished, hoovered and mopped all the floors. Mentally I felt better for it. Dd sent videos of the boys sliding down water slides. Dgs2 has improved his confidence in the water massively. It was nice to see them so obviously enjoying themselves.
Today I will check on dds for mail. I want to clean the glass in the house. If the sun does come out, I will have to do it in stages. I might even finish weeding the front garden. Have a good day all

Good morning from overcast South Lanarkshire.

We arrived home yesterday from an absolutely wonderful trip. Eight of us across three generations, aged seven to seventy seven visited Thailand and Singapore. The heat and humidity was intense yet we managed to enjoy all the sights and sounds including seeing monkeys and snakes in their natural habitat, although I was surprised by the snake which crossed my path in the hotel gardens on the island of Koh Samui to be honest.

The jet lag is fierce but I’m hoping we feel much better by this evening as DH and I along with DD and DS are going to see James Taylor at Edinburgh Castle.

Wishing everyone the best day possible.

BlueSapphire Tue 14-Jul-26 08:14:05

Good morning everyone from a cloudy Northampton, feeling much cooler.
I really enjoyed the lower temperatures yesterday, it made going out pleasant.

Also enjoyed yoga yesterday and the coffee gathering afterwards especially as it was the first time I'd been out in a week.
Came home, did a few household tasks, had lunch then it was out on the bus to the shops, mainly to get an M&S voucher for the cousins whose ruby wedding celebration I am attending at the weekend. I also popped into Boots and spent a mini fortune on skin care and make-up..... in the forlorn hope that it might take a few years off me by Saturday!

Must get a few more things done around the house this morning; have already got a load of washing in the machine.
Hope to get out on a group walk after lunch - I have spent too long indoors lately.

Wishing all a pleasant cooler day.

Greyduster Tue 14-Jul-26 08:15:12

grandmadinosaur enjoy your river trip. We did it when we lived in the Netherlands in the late seventies and I remember the market in Liege stretching for miles and selling just about everything under the sun!

dragonfly46 Tue 14-Jul-26 08:28:09

Good morning from a cloudy Leicestershire.

Today DH is having his PET-ct scan. He is quite nervous and has been up since 6.
I am still hobbling so they will wonder why he is the patient and not me.
I have a telephone consultation with the GP this afternoon to see how long the MRI will be and to see if there are any stronger pain killers.

Wishing everyone the best day possible.

TheWeirdoAgain60 Tue 14-Jul-26 08:29:01

Good morning, Michael12 and all.

At 8 this morning, I was at work opening the 2 shop windows, and on one of them, on the inside, was a huge Airbus fly, but thankfully it was dopey, so I grabbed the swatter and battered it to death there and then, and with great pleasure too!

Because of the weather, I've got another bomber of a headache, so I've taken some Paracetamol, washed down with a can of Monster. The shop, till area, etc., are all set up, so I'm sitting here waiting for the first customer!

Have a good one, al of you!

glammagran Tue 14-Jul-26 08:38:11

Good morning from Wiltshire. A slightly cooler morning. It’s been sooooo windy though.

We enjoyed the Wimbledon men’s singles final on Sunday. DH completely forgot about the rugby on Saturday which he was annoyed about. Watched the England-Norway match but I have to confess, I find football very boring. DH only ever watches if England are playing in the World Cup.

School pickup yesterday. DGS2 wanted to watch EnglandvNorway again but got bored. DGD3 (7) was at a birthday sleepover on Saturday. Apparently they were “still going” at midnight. Even worse, DGD2 was 13 yesterday and on Saturday, she had a sleepover in a large tent in the garden with 6 other girls. Nobody really got any sleep according to DS including everyone in the neighbourhood I think. 😯

Congratulations to Iris on a 2nd place at the RDA national championships. Which discipline was she competing in? DD2 used to help at the RDA in West Berkshire when we lived there. When she was a boarder in Somerset she continued riding at a school there and was lucky enough to take a Badminton horse over some jumps. They were nowhere near as big as the real course but the horse jumped very high as it was used to doing this. Sadly it’s just too expensive nowdays.

I’m sorry that such an important chapter has closed in your life Gingster. I hope your cottage brings you lots of happy memories.

Georgesgran Tue 14-Jul-26 08:41:47

There was a recent thread about car repairs - local v dealerships Liberty. Unless you’ve a guarantee or warranty the locals won hands down. One of my cars was recalled for a free tweak at the Dealership - fresh coffee, newspapers, pastries and a B&O tv to watch, but I noted that the hourly labour charge was 3 times what my local garage charged - I’d paid cheaper barristers!

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Tue 14-Jul-26 08:46:58

Crikey you lot are up early! It’s 8:30am in the UK and there’s 43 posts already! Are you all off to work? …. 😂

Good morning everybody from Málaga where it’s hot again (lovely) with a very pleasant soft cool breeze oh no that’s the ceiling fan I’ve not switched it off yet! 🤷‍♀️

It’s LWW here at 2pm up in Arroyo. I will not go in the boutique, I will not go in the boutique, I will not …

Tidy up morning here first after my cereal and Greek yoghurt with grapes (my nod to healthy eating) and before my shower and hairwash. I need to sweep, mop the tiles, put my sheets in to wash and make up the bed. Also as the family of four will be using this place before me next month and need space and hangers in the wardrobe I need to pack all my stuff into clip boxes. I hate doing it but it’s only once a year so I shouldn’t moan. I’m glad I don’t rent it out #lazygran.

The man came to do the window strips yesterday what a difference now! The old ones had gone brown in the sun over the years and the effect spoiled looking out at the gorgeous view. Now - so much better. See pic before/after!

Cossy Tue 14-Jul-26 08:50:36

Morning from Essex, clouds like yesterday morning and a slight breeze, but it looks like our sunshine will burn off the clouds and give another glorious day.

Have the best time you can, lovely people flowers

Jaxjacky Tue 14-Jul-26 08:53:01

Morning from yes, sun again in S Hants with a slight breeze.
Yesterday was quiet on the voluntary phone, we have a new system picking up calls online, not dialling in to an answerphone.
More washing was done. Our garden is looking very tired, with no significant rain for weeks the hose was a poor substitute and now we have a ban. I am exempt, but feel guilty if we use it.
Enjoy the museum Bellas.
Fingers crossed for your journey Marzipan and safe travels to all out and about.

Good morning all , I think I’m getting used to the heat , I’ve doors and windows open and closed as appropriate, and I’m feeling cool about the ankles !
Another day in the greenhouse , I’m taking off bottom leaves of the tomatoes , no flowers yet on the cucumbers ,
The cherry tomatoes are delicious , I don’t think I’ve ever had ripe ones so early
I’m trying to keep new clematis alive till my daughter arrives home from a long weekend . Struggling with watering cans , I don’t get on with the hose , I end up soaked as bits fly off or it dries up with the inevitable kinks
Thinking of those with illness and problems , hope to hear from some soon

Good morning Michael and all GN's on a sunny but blessedly breezy and cooler morning, for which I am truly thankful. My back is not good today and so it has taken me some time to creak up and get going. Frustrating as I would like to make the most of the cooler weather to get some jobs done.

Yesterday I had ideas on what I wanted to do, but I just felt wiped out and did very little, just sat about, keeping in the cool with the cold water, wet flannel etc. Was rather annoyed with myself as I looked back to living in much hotter places and still carried on. Thought is it just being older means I am coping less well,? but eventually my brain started to work and I used some commonsense.

I have been diabetic for a couple of years now, but only on tablets and a sensible diet etc, no insulin. I just carry on and every so often I can see myself wandering off the paths of righteousness and go back to the book and check out what I am doing. But this long stretch of hot weather has not occurred until now, and having lived abroad, I naturally do many of the sensible things, such as keeping out of the sun and all my tips for keeping cool. However I have now looked up reactions for type 2 and the heat and things make a bit more sense. So I have not had any alcohol and been drinking mostly water, but need to increase the water intake, and not just drink when I feel thirsty. I keep bottles of water in the fridge but just taking it as and when. Now I am putting them together to be able to see that I am drinking enough throughout the day.

I now have a reason for how I am feeling, which is very good, instead of wondering why, and even a genuine excuse for not doing things like ironing etc. so with a bit cooler morning ,am feeling better. Yesterday I only did the minimum, which meant cleaning the kitchen and bathroom, going through the fridge and checking dates on food etc. Normally I use my commonsense about dates on packets etc and am prepared to use things a day or two over their packet dates, as I am quite capable of looking at and smelling things, but in this weather am more cautious. Hopefully when things cool down I will have lost a bit of weight, as have not been eating as much and of course a bit later in the evening. Yesterday I enjoyed some lovely new potatoes and a few strawberries that were cool from the fridge. So have some potatoes left to make a salad for today. I read lots of posts and got rid of emails etc.

A little sad that I am not at the Great Yorkshire Show, which I used to go to every year. This breeze should help them to have a great day, and hopefully boost the coffers. With Covid and bad weather , over the last few years I think many little shows and big ones too have been struggling to keep going. So hoping they are all having a good year.

May today be a good day for all of your plans and hope that you can keep cool and enjoy yourselves.

HelterSkelter1 Tue 14-Jul-26 09:44:11

Sensible logical attitude madeleine. My friend's daughter has type 2 diabetes and temps above 30 deg affect it detrimentally. I must ask my friend what her DDs side effects are.
Feel better soon.
This long stretch of heat is so unusual for the UK it will take a while to become accustomed to it. And then it will be winter!!,

Melanie61 Tue 14-Jul-26 09:44:40

Greyduster ,I am so sorry for your loss. As I get older I’m acutely aware my friends and friendship group aren’t getting any younger. I’m very fortunate that we are still alive and kicking but I know that’s not going to last forever.
Look after yourself and take time to grieve.
