Yes, absolutely. But you try telling the owners of those dogs who always insist they’re all just big softies who wouldn’t hurt a fly.

Yes, the dog owning classes have had too much say, half of them openly say they prefer dogs to humans. These jaw clamping breeds should be banned. And the people who leave their dogs barking all day and all night should be euthanised along with their dogs.

I am NOT a dog hater I ve always loved my own not too interested in other peoples apart from a passing hello but because I don’t ooh and ahh over every dog and talk about rainbow bridges I m labeled as anti which I m not at all BUT I firmly believe this big ( unsuitable) dog with massive jaws that can rip a child to pieces should be totally banned not just
castrated or muzzled but BANNED full stop I feel very strongly that enough is enough
I hate it when I meet one close by in the street even on a lead

This dog was legal and registered, but dogs and small children, especially babies, should be kept apart and never left alone.

These dogs are very strong, often stronger than their owners. I was attacked by a couple of dogs some years ago. I do not know what they were, but both were wearing muzzles, thank heavens, when they came at me the owner came too, they just pulled her behnd them. She did gain control and pull them away and the only injury I sustained was a badly bruised arm, but my story does show how very strong such dogs are because this were only medium sized dogs, smalle than a labrador.

M0nica, the euthanising was tongue in cheek, of course I would just want the dogs rehomed to competent owners. Still euthanise the old owners though

Many people live in complete denial that others do not share their opinion of their 'baby'. Because that is what they have projected onto a perfectly normal animal, and treating dogs like babies is a very bad idea. Dogs are dogs, they have their own personalities and they need to fit into the family and understand boundaries. Not be in charge of everything.

Many dogs are capable of killing an infant, and have done so, but these XL Bullies are in another league.I would pass new laws now that make euthanising them compulsory and the State will pay for it.Police will enforce it.

Honestly .... I would have all aggressive dogs compulsorily euthanised ... put to sleep ... got rid of. The whole situation is out of control now.

Once upon a time people kept and enjoyed their dogs as companions and had fun with them. Now mindless thugs get hold of inbred man-made killer dogs to boost their egos and use as penis extensions.

This has nothing whatever to do with healthy happy dog ownership. It is a whole industry feeding the warped egos of these irresponsible and selfish owners.

Any dog that needs a muzzle simply should not be. There needs to be a clamp down in the breeders to prevent the dogs even existing. The law does not allow indiscriminate lion ownership .... people are not allowed to walk the round the streets in a lead. I see these aggressive breeds of dog as no different.

I thought these dogs were illegal in both the UK and Australia. Anyone ignoring the law should be treated as if they had an illegal weapon .

No Nana8 they are not illegal in UK I don’t know about your country They are supposed to be muzzled when out and castrated to keep the numbers down however people flout the laws and sometimes give them other names because xL bullies are a made up breed anyway, it is hard to prove they are not some other mix.
I firmly believe they should be banned completely and also the other huge ‘fighting’ breeds

As I’ve said on previous discussions, I’ve lived with dogs throughout my life, with a three year gap when I was 18-21. I’ve had three at times, including rescues and fosters. I currently share my life with a spaniel and a lab.

It’s become a different world since lock down. My area has many more dogs. My regular dog walking areas used by commercial dog walkers, often four vans each with 6 - 8off lead dogs. My lab became reactive after a number of incidents when off lead dogs jumped all over him. He is a lovely, gentle dog with my grandchildren, mixes no problem with dogs he knows but might react to dogs in his face. So we live a quieter life than my spaniel, or previous dogs enjoyed.

All dogs can be unpredictable. Too few owners go to proper training groups, or they do six weeks puppy training then wonder why their adolescent dog forgets its recall etc. they’re dogs, not fur babies. People watch that dreadful Dogfather, Graham Hill and believe he’s a trainer. He’s a charlatan.

Why anyone wants an XL or a Cane Corso is beyond me. I can almost see it if you live in a remote farm or house with safe enclosed area. You’d feel safer about intruders but as I wouldn’t want one in the house, or running free what’s the point. Get a well bred German shepherd as a protective pet

I also believe that bad owners should be euthanised.

Given a personal choice, a little bit tongue in cheek, I would ban all dog walkers and doggy daycare and anyone buying a dog would first be checked out (at their expense) as to whether they were able physically/timewise/location walk their own dog daily and could provide sufficient space indoors for it when they were at work etc.

Too many people seem to treaat owning a dog as if it was an animated soft toy, passing all the real care of it on to other people.

if all people want is an animated cuddly toy, I am sure they could find them and it would ave them a fortune in food and vets bills

The work involved to get a puppy socialised is very intensive and has to be done within a few months. Dd and her dh are also taking their two springer puppies to puppy classes as it is good to get outside expertise. They will become well trained gundogs and are experienced owners

A lot of owners have no idea about training and socialising and I hate to see the yoube videos of any dogs nestled against babies. There was one with a pitbull the other day

I agree with everything that has been said and I've been a dog lover all my life.
Another recent trend is for people to have multiple dogs - and then they winge that they can't afford the vet bills

I’d allow qualified behaviourists to walk one dog at a time as a commercial business. The dog must be on lead unless the behaviourist hires or owns a safe enclosed field.

Yes Bluebell there has to be an end to these xl bullys, I don't care how much of a pet, the owners think they are, they're killing machines,, even if they are registered, this baby never stood a chance.

I like dogs, don’t currently have one but there are several in our family.
‘Taking my chances with a Jack Russell’ made me smile. A lovely lady and her Jack Russell regularly walk past our house and if I’m outside the Jack Russell ( I won’t name him, but we are on speaking terms) will roll over for a tummy tickle.
One day I was about to oblige and he went for me! I immediately forgave him, his owner was mortified, but it did end his tummy tickles.

Never babies and dogs together.
