Anyone else been bewitched by TEMU

I've been trying to find the cartoon about the fire in the Temu and Shein factory. Apparently the entire stock was wiped out. Management are mourning the loss of £68.

I wouldn't touch them with a bargepole - educate yourself about them

Do you now that Temu is a shop they themselves don’t produce anything.
Of course there are going to be companies world wide exploiting people but not every company selling on Temu has bad practice.
There are more and more British companies advertising on the site.

I don’t use them, Shein or any other company that allegedly treats its employees badly and avoids the import taxes to the UK.

I think they sell goods from hundreds of different businesses. Some will be good, some bad. Just like the major department stores. Most clothing here is now made in China , the same as Temu’s stuff. What’s the difference, apart from the cost ? Do you really believe that the well known stores go and check out the conditions of the workers producing their goods? I think not.

Following that logic we shouldn’t buy milk, dairy products etc from supermarkets as they pay our UK farmers a pittance.

nanna8, when my daughter worked in the head office of a well known fashion chain, she visited the factories producing the clothes, some announced, some unannounced, including those abroad.

And it is possible, in many areas of Britain, to buy milk from a milkman. This supplier pledges a fair price to the farmer.

I try to buy local milk from the farm shop as often as I can, but it’s not always in stock and sometimes you just have to buy from the nearest supermarket (but definitely not Tesco’s)

Temu does not pay anyone to produce anything.
They are a market place for businesses to sell their goods.

Temu doesn’t care how workers are paid tho.How can a wig be produced and sold for a profit when it costs a couple of pounds only?

I trust everyone who buys goods from Amazon, EBay, Etsy etc has the same attitude to goods made in China.
I’m not defending the Chinese. But if you’re going to attack one company ( or 2) have the same concerns for other companies.
What about the conditions in vietnam, Bangladesh, South America, Turkey, India, Pakistan.
And let’s not forget our own home grown illegal sweat shops.

All those employees are technicians. The work that goes into maintaining, updating that enormous site is ongoing 23hrs a day.

Ok petra you are right, apologies.
But they act as a selling platform for third parties who do employ forced Uyghur labour and Temu have admitted they don’t check the standards of their suppliers.
I do try and check where the new goods come from that I buy, but also purchase from charity shops, free sites on FB and swop with friends.
Up to your one’s own conscience really.

I do not use them, but people do' especially those who do not have a high income.
I think it's harsh and patronising to tell people to educate themselves, not everyone can afford to be virtue signalling.

I don’t buy from Temu as I have seen and heard reports about poor quality goods. I see that some people have had a better experience. I have heard about the constant email bombardment and special offers, but tbh Seasalt does that too!

I d rather buy second hand than put any money into those factories
It’s not only the pay, it’s the hours, the amount they have to work for one day off it’s the children employed It just stinks and yes I can’t afford the big fashion companies at all but I can afford charity shops and car boots etc etc and always feel well dressed

Not clothes but the firm my so works for about twice a year he goes overseas to check that the various plants are following the correct procedures

You pays your money. personally, when it comes to most things I put quality and integrity way, way, way ahead of quantity and just buy clothes I know well get well worn if I buy them.
