I'd really like to know if it's just me who is completely baffled by the current trend of pronouncing Route (rhyming with hoot) as Rowt (rhyming with doubt).
I know it's been imported from the US - but why? Chuck Berry definitely didn't get his kicks on Rowt 66, neither do I take a Scenic Rowt and I don't recall Steve McQueen plotting the Escape Rowt in the Great Escape.
I have a router for my wifi, not a rowter, and before the advent of GPS, we used the AA Route Finder to plot a journey.
Has there been some kind of edict announced that we have to start mis-pronouncing words that I've somehow missed?
