Thank you BlueBelle I hadn't realised and clearly wasted my time replying.

They follow a set formula and I've stopped engaging with them.

They’re always extremely long, convoluted posts, too.

And if you add in the subsequent posts justifying the original one and giving more details about the innocence of the poster and the wickedness of the MiL, the total is several times as long.

The writers of fabricated posts get full of righteous indignation when someone seems about to realise that they are making it all up, and can turn nasty and report doubters. The best action is to report them to GNHQ, with as many details as you can on why you don't believe them. GN have ways of identifying troublemakers and dealing with them.

Much more fun talking about these threads than contributing to them.

How do they get in if not signed up?

Anyone can join, and is assumed not to be a troll. It is only when they do something that brings them to the notice of the moderators - (breaks the guidelines repeatedly, or posts something that causes multiple reports by other posters or is so serious that one report is enough) - that their registration is double checked.
