Nothing as random as that Bluebelle. Perhaps it’s the stuff the person was given by the food bank which they didn’t like or didn’t know how to cook. In which case they may get it again next visit!

Any possibility that the bag might have been put there deliberately by a well-meaning neighbour who thought you might be in need, BlueBell?
I can't remember from previous posts what your personal circumstances are, so my suggestion could be way off mark

Nope never had that happen , and yes giving it to the food bank is great that’s what I would do

I wonder if they were leaving them for someone else and simply got the wrong bin?

I doubt they had come from a food bank as the recipient could just have said they were not things they liked & got something else. I suspect someone left or dropped them & someone put them in the nearest bin.

Oddest item I’ve ever found in a bin was an old sports bag and four kittens plus mom cat!!!!
I’m guessing the previous owner knew I was a vet nurse and had no idea what else to do with them, I guess due to lack of funds.
The queen was quite poorly but after treatment was fine. The kittens were 3-4 weeks old.

I would have been very grateful for the food and put it to good use! I would consider it was my lucky day!

How can anyone NOT know how to cook a tin of tomatoes and a packet of pasta!?!?

I would say it is food bank leavies, left by someone who does not want healthy food or have to cook from scratch.

I don't think its food bank stuff as I the one I work for they ask if look to see if you don't/can't eat the products.

Maybe a shoplifter who was avoiding arrest?

On a sort of similar note, a few weeks ago I found a bag of sweets plonked right in the middle of my back garden, on the grass. It was a Haribo bag that had been opened and some sweets probably eaten but quite a selection still left. It was kept closed with a plastic clip. I guess it was a child's store of sweets. Asked every family with children in the neighbourhood with no success. Can only guess that some animal or large bird had left it there once found to be inedible!!

I had the opposite problem, when someone pinched my green 'composting' bin, full of garden waste and kitchen peelings, which I had put on the front drive ready for the early morning collection.
My neighbour's surveillance camera picked up a young man in a 'hoodie' towing it away in the early hours of the morning. He headed up the lane, which leads only to a track which is half a mile long and leads to the next small town.
A thorough search didn't find the bin, and he hadn't even dumped the contents nearby. We can only assume that he towed it, including the rather heavy rubbish, some distance to his destination. Very strange! Even stranger was the fact that, after I reported the theft to the council a policewoman turned up to take down the details!

Perhaps the dustbin men left it for you . After empty your bin for weeks and seeing your rubbish , they thought that poor cow need feeding up . Only joking but it's a theory .

My front garden borders a busy road with quite a lot of foot traffic. In the past I have found various things chucked over my fence including a large glass carboy (the kind you plant up with pretty foliage) which landed on the grass and was thus unbroken, a brand new purple handbag, a big extra-strong shopping bag, and - one morning - a very sharp kitchen knife together with a metal baseball bat. The police came around to collect the latter two items, I put the carboy and the shopping bag to good use, and the purple handbag went to the charity shop (not my colour ?).
I wonder what the next surprise for me will be ...

The strangest thing i have found in my bin, was a mobile phone that i had sent to my son in Spain and he never received, the postman put in in my recycling bin with a note through the letterbox informing me "parcel in bin"
Stranger still was that it was almost a year later,

Years ago my mum ordered a new kettle and toaster. They never arrived so she complained and she was sent repayment items. Fast forward some 12/14 years and one of her neighbour's died. The neighbour had let the area around their little house get rather scruffy (courtyard development), due to their illness, so the other neighbours decided to tidy up so that vermin wouldn't be attracted.

Someone moved a dustbin from round the side of the house and lo and behold, inside were my mum's missing kettle and toaster!

Not bin-related but I was doing my spring bulb pots this week. I emptied one of my pots and in the old compost there was a whole egg! I recalled having read about eggs in gardens before and a quick Google told me it was likely to have been stolen and hidden by a fox or, less likely, a squirrel.

Egg related.
Last Tuesday evening, I heard a thump, and we couldn't think what had caused it.
On Wednesday morning, I put out some recycling, and there on our window cill, was a smashed egg! A hen's egg, not from a nest.
It's not even Halloween.

It could be a Harvest gift from your local church or school following Harvest Festival.

Have a good look in the bag - there may well be a gift card in it.
