Yesterday was my bin day so this morning I went to fetch my bin in as I pulled it over the step it didn’t feel as empty as I expected so I opened the lid Inside was a Poundland carrier bag and inside the bag was a packet of Asda Grains and granola, a tin of Tesco tomatoes, a tin of Tesco chickpeas and a packet of Tesco fuseli All unopened all in date
Now what’s the story did someone nick them and have a conscience or did they steal a bag off someone and leave the things they didn’t like behind or had they been given them and didn’t like them but didn’t want to refuse and offend the giver
They can now go to the food bank and I ll never know
What do you think the story is and has anything random happened to you lately?

I have an idea! When I was attending Slimming World, the slimmer of the week received a bag of random "healthy" things donated by other members. I got it once or twice and it was full of things that I didn't really like - such as tinned stuff, dried pulses etc. If it was a heavy bag and I was walking, I might have been tempted to dump it in a nearby wheelie bin!

Years ago , first visit to our new house to measure up for carpets, we were soon ready for a cup of tea. I turned the old brass tap on and with a cough and splutter it spat out a minutely folded £10 note.
Sadly a one trick wonder.

Be thankful: round here dog owners put dog poo in my bin.

When I went to put out the bins this week I discovered an injured pigeon hiding behind one of them! (it seemed to have hurt its foot and was hobbling but otherwise OK). It moved, slowly, to a sheltered spot by the log store and I moved as quietly as I could so as not to scare it. When I looked out later it had gone.

As I had previously had a deer in the garden I am wondering if the word has gone around the various wildlife here that my garden is a safe refuge!

Oh dear, yes, live kittens in the bin is an old one, isn't it? It really doesn't bear thinking about when you know how rubbish is ground up in the lorries!

My niece, aged 10 at the time, hand reared one little kitten that she found in a bin, using a doll's feeding bottle. It grew into a lovely cat.

Most people have made the mistake of believing a cat was a tom and discovering too late that it was a queenie, but why or why can't they hand in kittens either to a vet to be put down, or to a rescue centre?

I found a very sharp kitchen knife on the lawn and on another occasion a policewomans handbag full of personal stuff. She had got drunk at a neighbours and dropped it in the lane.

I once found a bottle of beer filled with wee in my garden - it wasn’t there the night before and I found it quite early in the morning. Once I got over my horror and disgust I was intrigued as to who would have left it there - we live in a cul de sac in a v quiet residental street and there are a few houses to pass before they get to ours, we back onto woodland so ample places to go behind a tree, and our children were still at primary school so it wasn’t as if it was one of their teenage friends playing a ‘funny’ prank. If someone had taken a dislike to us they could have weed up against our front door or something, rather than going to the bother of peeing into a bottle and leaving it behind our garden gate (which they then shut carefully). Most strange.

I have totally overthought this.

We get the usual rubbish stuffed into our hedge - empty cans, biscuit wrappers, dog poo bags - and one day a holdall containing a complete change of teenage size girls clothes, a bottle of wine and a door key. When it wasn't reclaimed by next day we handed it in to the police. I do wonder if the girl ever claimed them or what the back story was.

NfkDumpling Sat 19-Oct-19 21:50:40

Perhaps SirGhenjin someone had found it, thought it was beer and then had to dispose of it when they discovered it wasn't!

We once left a crate of homebrew beer which hadn't worked behind the shed up the garden to dispose of - sometime - and it was stolen within a couple of days. The boy who lived at the farm behind us and his mates were the likeliest culprits. We often wonder if they actually drank it and what the effects were. There was a lot of sediment in the bottom of the bottles and it would have made an excellent cure for constipation.

Possibly NfK! I’d genuinely love to know why they picked our house grin

I don't think it's unwanted food bank stuff. I know several people who use food banks and they don't dump food. People who use food banks are really desperate and you don't get free food forever, you get one or two visits and you have to be referred by a GP or similar.
As for the widespread idea of 'can't be bothered to cook from scratch', have you ever tried to cook when you can't afford gas or electricity? That's why foodbanks divide stuff into has to be cooked (pasta etc) and doesn't need to be cooked eg tins. Most foodbanks don't stock any perishable food like fresh fruit and veg either.

...and most people who use foodbanks are the working poor. Everyone I know who uses food banks is in work. Care workers, cleaners etc.

One Sunday morning early I went to our bin ,which was at the back of our house and would have been pitch dark the night before , and found a pair of soiled boxer shorts . I did ask DH if they were his though I knew he did not wear such things.

Did someone think you needed a food parcel?

Someone thought it was their own bin. Popped in their shopping because they’d forgotten their key and had to walk to Mum’s for a spare key.
I once took the wrong shopping trolley and got half way home before noticing. Fled back to the supermarket and sheepishly decanted my shopping into my own trolley, which was still there.
