travelsafar.....I think what you are talking about is that lovely thing I refer to as 'getting pleasure from the little things in life'.......and its incredibly important IMO. Its different things to different people but mine are such things as when a rushed 'what's in the cupboard' meal somehow turns into something really rather good. Or that lovely feeling of a freshly made bed that's all cool and crisp and the pillows are plumped to just the right amount.
Taking pleasure in our own surroundings is so important and hopefully its not about the value of anything, its much more about the care and attention we've applied.
We all need a bit of sanctuary where we feel totally at ease with ourselves and the world.

I love my home, it is the most 'us' house we have ever had. We still sometimes sit together in the evenings talking about how right it is for us. It helps that we have lovely neighbours.

Coming home after a trying day, when you come in the front door, push it closed and lean against it and let the warm feeling of peace wash the tensions away.

And that moment when the linen basket is empty, the washing is done and the ironing basket is empty.

l've been in my home for 32 years and love it - especially as you say when it's time to shut the curtains and put lamps and candles on. My husband says he likes coming home from work in the dark and finding the home all warm and cosy.

At some point we will have to sell and I know it will break my heart to part with it

Every time I come home I feel like that! It's a huge internal sigh of happiness at being in my nest.

We will probably move one day but I'm okay with that as I think we'll be nearer one of our children and I hope to get a better garden.

Comfort is exactly the feeling I get in my home. I feel very thankful that home means so much to me. Every day I get a little bit of joy when I walk into a room and that feeling is multiplied when I return home after a holiday, regardless of how wonderful the holiday might have been.

I love every part of my house but especially the lounge which is painted red and has gold curtains, lots of lamps and two big sofas. It is cosy and welcoming. I'm never moving!

I have that feeling quite often travelsafar and it's so good. I swear it does the spirit and soul good too along with a feeling of well-being. A quiet satisfaction where no cost is involved and I wouldn't call the Queen my aunt.

When our children were young and safely tucked in bed.
Just looking at their little faces would give me a warm glow and the feeling that all was well with the world.
Have the same feeling when my grandchildren are staying over.

Oh yes! It's just lovely.

Now all the renovations/repairs and redecorating has been completed I also love my home. I adore my bedroom I have gone for several shades of grey, very calm and relaxing. When our fire is lit in the lounge, candles glowing I feel safe and comfortable.

Likewise in the summer with all the doors open, listening to birdsong, absolute bliss.

I feel just the same, travelsafar. It's a lovely, comforting feeling, isn't it? I, too, love the warm cosiness and soft lighting in my rooms and the ticking of the clocks as the dark falls outside on winter days and the cooling freshness on summer days. I'm in no hurry to leave this place I call home with my DH. It's our sanctuary.

I'd rather lie between soft sheets than 'crisp' cotton ones.

We've been in our bungalow for only 3 months, I feel for the first time ever that I'm truly home, we've been happily married for 49 years, but a bungalow has always been our dream. So cosy and warm, quiet area, lovely neighbours

Interesting topic,I appreciate all my home has to offer cosy warm everything as it should be.Large garden plus veg plot fruit trees,sounds ideal,it’s a 3 bed semi.But I want to move to be nearer my daughter, which is 12 miles away the property she live in and surrounding houses are to expensive for us,but there is a mobile home site just a mile away,which we could afford.
My husband does not want to move,he loves his veg patch,and garden,but he is 72 as am i,and has started with dementia.I have pointed out to him that,I want to be nearer to my family.Thinking we only have around 10 years approx of reasonable health or life left..Am I being selfish? Wanting this.Appriciate your opinions,we have a viewing on Sunday.

The problem with my fresh cotton sheets is the noise they make for a couple of nights till they soften up.

My husband grew up in a terrace house where the front room was just that. It took him a while when we built our bungalow (single story residence actually) 43 years ago to stop calling the sitting room the front room, well, it’s at the back of the house! He now calls it the lounge, I think he feels ‘sitting room’ is too posh, well I am.

Only airports and hotels have a lounge

Surely its withdrawing room! and I love mine this time of year as the sun gets right to the back of the room.

I always loved my sitting room. Nathan sideboard and dining table plus ladderax including desk. I leave you to guess how old. Last summer a friend offered to “ take the stress away” and revamp. The walls were painted, out went the sideboard and she painted my teak ladderax dark - very dark blue. It looks awful. I have lots of books so need the shelving and use the desk all the time.to replace it would be so expensive but when I walk into the room it is in my face and my heart sinks. It is no longer my sanctuary. I really don’t know what to do.

Whatever you choose to call it, as long as you feel comfortable in it, that's all that matters. ?

Oh yes I love my home. I also count my blessings when climbing into my very comfortable double bed which has an electric under blanket to keep my poor old bones warm. I feel very lucky that I want for nothing, although I am not considered to be rich in monetary terms.
I also appreciate the peace of having a home to myself.
These are the things that I remind myself of when things are tough.
