Today is supposed to be the most depressing day of the year. No wonder I am feeling a bit low. Perishing cold, I still have my coat on in the house having put the bins out . There is lots I could be doing but have no motivation.
Anyone else feel like this?

If it's just the one day, then lie back and indulge yourself with a book and a drink!

PECS Mon 21-Jan-19 10:04:16

When I was at work f/t I was too busy to notice..now I am almost retired I can choose to do what I please.
I can imagine, for folk in difficult situations , who cannot see a light at the end of the tunnel January is a gloomy month and to be stuck ..with either no income or having to make the pay check stretch for a bit longer... it could feel like a miserable week.

I have come back to bed with a frothy cappuccino and a shortbread biscuit.

House to myself which is very rare. Have just cancelled my personal training session at the gym, I will go to Callanetics later instead. "Me time" is for me today!!

Not particularly today, but I know the feeling. I always dread January - usually such a dead, dreary month - though at least it was sunny here yesterday.

Perversely the other day, since we were going to an old friend's funeral, one thing that perked me up a little on a particularly cold, grey and dismal day, was seeing lots of drifts of snowdrops in the crematorium gardens.
The first crocuses - not too long to wait, I hope - will perk me up even more.

I do hope you'll be feeling better soon!

Karanlouise Mon 21-Jan-19 10:15:55

Yes, I feel like this too, just been having a bit of cry. Some blue skies would help.

merlotgran Mon 21-Jan-19 10:17:48

Oh, so that's why DH is in a grumpy mood this morning. I thought it was because I yelled at him last night for breaking my favourite wine goblet. grin

megan123 Mon 21-Jan-19 10:18:56

Yes, I feel the same. I hate January, I long to have some lighter days. The weather is always dark and dreary here. I keep hoping to see some plants coming through. I shall take my dog on the fields very shortly and see if that improves my state of mind.

Hope you all feel better soon.

January is such a long bleak month where we wait for the transition of winter darkness to the slow but sure lighter mornings and evenings.
I never feel very clever during these dark months at the best of times and can't wait for daylight and when I see the spring flowers poking out it's like a tonic.
Strange how these simple things in life become an absolute delight, snowdrops and the first crocus.
Yes, it's a low time.

Brunette10 Mon 21-Jan-19 10:30:51

I think we can all relate to this - sending bigs hugs to all who are feeling a bit down try and think of nice things that make you smile. flowers

Its the best time to be thinking of booking holidays giving you something to look forward to,we went to travel agents on the 2nd and booked for May & September giving something to look forward to and help get over this miserable month.
Brightened up the front garden with winter bedding plants to give a colourful boost and ordered some plants for spring so not feeling too bad really,it will soon be over and Spring will be around the corner.

I am off to lunch with a group of pals! That will cheer me up on this grey and misty day.

dragonfly46 Mon 21-Jan-19 10:53:43

Absolutely - we were supposed to be flying to Madeira today but both DH and I have health problems and are unable to go so pretty tearful this morning.

Karanlouise Mon 21-Jan-19 11:01:20

Dragonfly46 that's such a shame. I do feel for you. ?

inishowen Mon 21-Jan-19 11:10:49

I feel awful today. Husband has hardly spoken to me in weeks. He gets like that now and again. I try to remain positive but I'm so fed up now. My daughter asked if we'd picked up her baby from nursery today but it would entail husband fitting the car seat in my car and I can't bring myself to ask for his help.

My day couldn't be much better as one of my sons is about to visit. Should be on the motorway at this very moment. Hallelujah. To those of you who're having a rotten Jan, it's 2/3 of the way through. Another hallelujah!

winterwhite Mon 21-Jan-19 11:16:25

Oh bad luck dragonfly, how miserable for you.
I'd actually thought Blue Monday was last week, a nasty shock realising there's still another 10 days of grey overhead and mud underfoot, not to mention Feb. - even muddier, but lighter - Our snowdrops are barely visible still.

NanaPlenty Mon 21-Jan-19 11:26:36

Struggling generally this month. Have had some relationship issues which have pulled me down. Start some Counselling this week and hoping it will help. Spring is on the way (happier days will be round the corner ) . I should go to the gym and have a 101 things I could do/people I could see but I have that awful 'can't be bothered' feeling which is unusual for me.

Harris27 Mon 21-Jan-19 11:27:42

EmilyHarburn Mon 21-Jan-19 11:43:19

Son and family packing for their flight home tomorrow. got lunch to make then they are doing last minute hopping and I get some peace an quiet before tomorrows rush to the train station.

mabon1 Mon 21-Jan-19 11:44:55

If you can get out of bed then it's a good day any day. Some folk would give their eye teeth to be able to get out of bed.

dirgni Mon 21-Jan-19 11:49:26

The sun has come out here to cheer us all up!

GrandmaPam Mon 21-Jan-19 11:52:44

Grammaretto....most depressing day of the year? Oh hang on, isn't that every Monday? Could this because I am still working and can see my retirement on the horizon [wink'

AlieOxon Mon 21-Jan-19 11:55:52

I'm blue because I never saw the red moon last night. I was awake but it was all cloudy.... I was looking forward to that.

I am by myself but in spite of having arranged something in the way of contact every day this week, yesterday was bad with nothing, except the things I had to do - washing, washing up, yuk.
