Blue Monday?

Today is supposed to be the most depressing day of the year. No wonder I am feeling a bit low. Perishing cold, I still have my coat on in the house having put the bins out . There is lots I could be doing but have no motivation.
Anyone else feel like this?

January is a bit of a grim month. hang on in there. It will get better and February is short! Things which are looking up are:-
-more sun and light
-the Snowdrops are out
-there are only ten days more of January to get through
-the awful Christmas TV is over and there are some good programmes on the box
-this winter has not been too bad weather-wise so far
-two months to the day until spring.

Soryy, Hang, not hang. No edit button.

Ah - that explains why I am feeling low today. I had a bad night which is unusual for me which meant I forgot to set clock to get up to see the big red moon at 5am. I really wanted to see that.
I was looking forward to a good morning having nails done but their heating was on the blink so it was freezing so that didn't cheer me up. Nails look great though- silver & white glittery polish.
I will do some nice warm ironing & then veg out watching things I missed over weekend as GC were staying.
Sometimes you just have to give into it.
Roll on tomorrow.

Although I am retired I have never got rid of that @monday morning feeling' and I loathe January. However Monday morning these days are with my Walking Netball group who laugh and chatter through the morning so that's fine. Also the worst part of January is over and the lighter evenings are coming a few minutes per night. Bulbs are up in the garden and buds on all the bushes and trees. That said I shall still be dipping into a Christmas box of chocs later this afternoon.

Frankly, I find the 7th January much worse as then I have just finished putting the Christmas decorations away, Today I am happily looking forward to the end of the month in 10 days time when I will have money in the bank again.

Snow here to day and sunshine, so much better than the rain and gales we had from New Year's day until a week ago.

I hate January, and February is not much better. It was one of the reasons we moved to SW France, even though we get winters here, sometimes very cold, but it's shorter and much longer daylight and much more sun and blue skies. The snow drops came out the other day so that helped.

However I spent about 1 1/2 hours on the telephone this morning to my best friend, both feeling low about January and managed to motivate each other a bit and have a laugh. Now I know it's officially the Blue day of the year I feel better and just about to email that to my friend.

I have now done all the necessary so will curl up with a book.

No Grammaretto.... I was up at 6 to cycle 5 miles to get over to my daughters house to let her get off to work .... got two kids up, dressed , fed and out the door to school by 8 as eldest has a 2.5 mile walk. Take youngest to her school ....back to daughters and shove in a wash load.... straighten kids rooms and renovate bathroom after toothpaste disaster. Then cycled home 5 miles to make sure hubby alright and has actually got out of bed and fed himself. Put wash load into my machine. Empty machine into tumble dryer and do a bit hoovering.... just producedour lunch and cuppa tea and when digested will cycle 5 miles back to pick up granddaughter. Then cycle home to cook dinner for me and hubby. So no,,.... I have not got time or inclination to be ‘ blue’or any other colour come to think of it!,

Not miserable. Have had plenty of that with plenty of reasons. Just really very cold! Scared to put heating on - cost. Headache probably exacerbated by the cold. wearing coat indoors as usual - do it in Winter anyway. What makes this Monday particularly blue, actually?

Oh, Inishowen, your post made me want to cry, because I’ve been there, in that sad, soulless life, a few years ago. I called husband out on it and we went for counselling together (several sessions, then more a year later as it began unravelling again). Life is much better now. Please be pro-active about your situation - only one life / live it! It may be that he gets depressed - but then that needs addressing. I can’t tell you enough how much better things are for me now. flowers

Saggi. I am taking a rest having read your day's activities. 20 miles' cycling! Hope it's not hilly. Mind you at one time I was up at 5am and out working and worked non-stop till about 11pm. I was in my 40s though.

Tillybelle Mon 21-Jan-19 13:21:19

inishowen. I'm so sorry. Mine was the same.

Can you fit the baby seat? I had to learn as I was widowed. Get your daughter to show you. Don't let your husband's behaviour hold you back from living your life. It sounds so callous of me but really, you must look after yourself. If necessary just do your own thing. If he is determined not to help himself there's nothing you can do for him. But you can look after yourself. Go out, meet friends, do things. Please. Build up your own life. God bless you, my love. I do know. flowers

Just back from doctors after having a steroid inject ... being worried all night it turned out to be utterly aimless and over in a jiffy...
home again ...feet up ... looking out of sunroom windows over glorious winters Somerset landscape ...
Think how bloody lucky I am .. wish everyone my luck ... (but maybe not my current health)

Disgruntled Mon 21-Jan-19 13:26:58

There was a warning about it on Radio 3 this morning, so I put my best knickers on (and other clothes), did 5 mins of T'ai Chi, then borrowed a dog and took him round the wood. Staving it off, so far....

okimherenow Mon 21-Jan-19 13:26:58

Painless not aimless ...sorry ...predictive text

Over half way through January, days getting longer, having a positive affect on me. May not feel the same if I was still working, blooming long time till the next bank holiday this year!

etheltbags1 Mon 21-Jan-19 13:40:19

Yuk I'm working today, outside in the cold. I'm thrilled with my snowdrops though in my garden. I spent most of yesterday wrapped in a throw reading which is what I will do tonight

Lilylaundry Mon 21-Jan-19 13:55:30

Today is the best day of the year - because - its MY birthday. MY special day. I have about 30 beautiful cards and a flat full of lovely plants and flowers. It looks like a have plenty of lovely, thoughtful, friends and family. I love today.

SillyNanny321 Mon 21-Jan-19 14:03:57

Had a stinking cold for 10 days. Woke this morning without a sore throat, yippee!! Any day I wake up at my age is a good day as I have woken up again Lol!!

Hm999 Mon 21-Jan-19 14:07:59

Missed the special moon over the beach by literally a couple of minutes. BUT last Friday I did see some open daffodils in someone's garden, and some snowdrops.

And it's very sunny here.

Lily65 Mon 21-Jan-19 14:08:00

mabon, of course its all comparative and dealing with illness is desperately sad.

However if you feel rotten, you feel rotten and you don't need to be beating yourself up for being ungrateful, on top of that.

Finland was, apparently, the world's happiest country last year even though, today in Helsinki, they will have only seven hours of daylight (only six hours for most of December). We will have approximately eight hours of daylight today. I wonder why Finns are happier than we are. Surely January is a darker and more dismal month for them. Maybe the brightness of the snow is cheering for them. I'd hate it. Snow is the worst thing. Luckily, what snow we've had so far hasn't been much and has disappeared quite quickly. In Lapland, the sun never gets above the horizon at all in December. I will never go to live in Finland although I wish them well! ??? Compared with GB, Finland really is the Far North East!
