Before I start, can I make it clear that this is neither a criticism nor a comment on whether people have their children within a married relationship or not. Yesterday, heard tail end of Wanted Down Under, and one of the daughters was talking about her career as a midwife, her long relationship (9 years) with her partner, and their future plans. She said they were hoping to buy a house of their own soon, and then start a family, but 'wouldn't be getting married or committing ourselves like that'
. If buying a house together, having children isn't a commitment, what is? In fact, of the 3 situations, ironically marriage is probably the easiest to get out of, legally! Having children with someone is a lifelong thing, why was she mentioning it in such a flippant way? Many on here have experienced the sadness and sometimes dreadful situations that arise when they or their children go through a divorce and there are children involved, and it would seem that the actual divorce is the least of the problems; it is access to children, maintenance, etc which cause the angst and heartache.
Aah! I could definitely stamp and shout at the moment!
