Last week I left a laptop and hard drive in a local repair shop. The hard drive was loaded with the contents of the laptop and was awaiting collection when someone stole it. It's pretty useless to anyone else!

Now it's been confirmed that train tickets we sent to a young asylum seeker have not been received - presumed stolen en-route. The Wonderful Man had put them in a Christmas card and thinks that someone mistakenly thought the card had cash in it - frustratingly the tickets are worthless unless someone wants a trip from London to Devon for Christmas. The tickets were for this young man to come and join us for his first ever Christmas celebration and now we're in a quandary about how to get tickets to him safely; we shall scrape the money together again, but we can't risk another £70+ going missing. sad

Can you buy online tickets that he can print off?

He can't pick tickets up from the station because you have to have the card that was used to pay. Thanks Pittcity - I'll investigate e-tickets to see if he can just show it on his phone, he doesn't have access to a printer.

Can you go to a station in person and ask for their advice with proof you bought the tickets?

Hello all - thought I'd spread some Christmas cheer by saying that replacement train tickets were donated by the organisation that originally put us in touch with our young man and he's picked them up and will be arriving tomorrow. I'm not quite sure who is the most excited, him or us. (I think it's me.) Ever practical our Christmas gift to him is an electric toothbrush as I doubt he'll ever afford dentistry! Kindly members of the local branch of Amnesty have also bought him a couple of small gifts and donated money that has gone towards some extras so he'll have some surprises on Christmas Day. tchgrin

On the subject of kindliness, I've had several donations given to me for a homeless man I've been supporting and he was moved to tears today by me telling him of some young children who gave some (a lot!) of their Christmas money to me so that he could get new walking boots. The true spirit of Christmas is still alive and well.
