A question asked on local radio this morning - what do you put on top of your Christmas tree? A star, an angel or a fairy?

I used to put an angel but after about 30 years if fell apart so now I use a sparkly star.

I've got a star probably about the same age.

A tatty little angel with a blond pageboy haircut. I think that's how we used to describe DD2. grin

A knitted angel, made this year.

Use to have an Angel and a star

Angel - very, very tatty angel grin

We have a getting-rather-faded Santa. I think we bought him in Belgium when DD was a baby so he is around forty five years old and he sits up there gamely every year, top twig up the back of his jacket. I can’t bear to get rid of him.

A Wilko fairy in a red velvet dress, much classier than she sounds. She replaced the H & S nightmare of a metal star that once sprang off our leaning tree and missed my DM's head by a hair's breadth.

a little angel in a tulle skirt with feather wings and a halo.I bought her and one for each of my GD's a few years ago .She looks exactly like the angel we had when I was wee

When I was little, we had a fairy which always went on top of the tree. It was basically a tiny doll with a skirt that was opened out to a full circle, the back behind her head, so at the back her bottom must have been showing. But that didn't matter as it was attached to the prickly top branch by a rubber band. Poor thing!

Since I've been in Germany and run my own household, I have never actually put anything at all at the top of the tree. The tradition here is a star - never an angel and certainly not a fairy!

Going away this year so our angel will stay in the loft. She's very pretty, had her about 15 yrs.

An angel tchsmile

We used to have an angel, which eventually fell to bits.
Now we have a pretty star on each tree. I managed to get them in a sale after Christmas in a posh shop. Otherwise I would have felt guilty paying the original price!

I have a stained glass angel which appeared one Christmas - I have no idea where it came from! Maybe Santa....?

A lovely doll dressed by an elderly great-aunt for our DD 40 years ago. She used offcuts of net curtains and is our pride and joy. A few years ago DD, who has the same knacky fingers as her great aunt had carefully took her apart, washed her and her clothes and put her together again and gave her a new sash, good for another 40 years

A rather folksy sort of angel made out of a sort of hessian, which is nicer than it sounds. I sometimes give her a tiny tinsel halo just to add a bit of bling.

phoenix Sun 03-Dec-17 18:00:12

Always a star, but this year, the tree(s) we are having have no tops, so nothing.................

grannysyb Sun 03-Dec-17 18:02:43

Always a star, sparkly silver to go with all the silver tinsel and lametta.

TwiceAsNice Sun 03-Dec-17 18:47:36

A sparkly gold star. I usually decorate the tree with a red and gold theme.

lemongrove Sun 03-Dec-17 18:49:33

Always a star...the star of Bethlehem.

cornergran Sun 03-Dec-17 19:33:54

A star on our new white tree. Always used to be an angel when we had a ‘proper’ tree though.

Chewbacca Sun 03-Dec-17 19:37:31

A white dove. My tree is decorated with different kinds of birds so a white dove sits at the top.

emmasnan Sun 03-Dec-17 20:03:16

A red and gold home made star.

Bathsheba Sun 03-Dec-17 20:12:47

JackyB I remember those fairy dolls! We had one for our tree, but I had forgotten all about it. Thanks for the memory tchsmile

LadyGracie Sun 03-Dec-17 20:15:27

A very old lopsided angel
