Paperless Society?

I like to see things in black and white written on paper so I'm not with a "paperless" society at all. Even more so now with the hacking that goes on. Things tend to come to a standstill don't they when computers crash.

Yes, a lot to be said for paper!
However the banks do give you lots of leaflets these days, and packaging generally doesn't seem to be getting any less, never mind all the things that come through the letter box.

No but how about paper tigers?

I get cross when one lot of information has to come in a handful of leaflets and booklets, do they think it looks more exciting? Which do I read first? How do I file them? They are too bulky in their folded state, but all mixed up if you flatten them into A4s.

And don't talk to me about Sunday papers, our DS was a paper boy and the weight of Sunday papers! Full of sections, magazines and yet more leaflets. Although I reuse as much as possible there isn't t much you can do with newsprint.

Any piece of paper that comes into this house printed on one side only, gets reused for notes, shopping lists, drawing paper for G'kids.

I had a call for breast screening which arrived on various pieces of coloured paper, printed on one side, and a booklet, big envelope too. I hate waste.

It is probably because of the PPI mis-selling - I suppose they have to prove they gave you proper advice.

DH used to work for a high street bank. Paper? TONS!!! but they need to cover their backs, give you all possible options, etc. It seems a bit unfair if someone sues the bank if that customer was greed/stupid/didn't listen.
having said that, things are far too complicated, the language as opaque as possible. Bring on the Plain English.

It's laughable really, my bank is to stop sending statements each month and my next one would be August unless of course I want to still have a monthly one.
Which I do.
The amount of paper that came with my statement this month was a joke.

We used to have a number of different saving accounts. Every time anything changed they would write separate letters and send the same leaflets over and over again. I wrote and asked if they could just send one letter
Answer was No. We have now moved our money.

I don't want a paperless society. I like paper; I know where I am with paper.

I think it is essential for paper docs! At any point things can go wrong in the tech world. Paper stays!

Fired my mortgage broker due to being inundated with tons of paper every few days and driven half mad by incessant phone calls, texts and emails.

AnyaRemember the sabre tooth curriculum very well, all about teaching children things they no longer need to know. Plenty of that about still sadly. ?

I think it was the call for society to become paperless followed by years and years of more and more paper being used, often wastefully, and even in offices where computers were the norm for producing virtual paperwork, that first made me cynical about some aspects of environmentalism. Cynical because I saw it as talking the talk but not doing the deed.

Since I've gone paperless in bank statements my banks have sent me more paper than ever before. When I first had a bank account I got a monthly statement on one sheet of paper and that was that. Now I get sent reams of "offers" to "upgrade" my account (and pay for it! how stupid do they think I am?) and loads more of what is just advertising guff or miniscule changes to legal terms that require whole booklets to be explained. It goes straight into the recycling bin but I shouldn't have it to recycle in the first place.
