The Nightingale's Song

Just wondered how many have read about the folk singer, Sam Lee, who, inspired by the nightgale's song, organises a sort of campfire-cum- songfest where he takes a selected group of fellow musicians into the night woods to sing and play along with the male nightingale's mating calls. The idea began as a BBC radio documentary and has grown. To protect the 5000 nightingale pairs in the UK, the event is open only to ticket holders and the location available to them only.

I find the whole idea of hearing and sharing the nightingale's song captivating and wish I could take part!
What do others think?

Yes, I've heard about him. He was on TV the other day and I've heard him on Mike Harding's podcast too. Lovely. I've never heard a nightingale.

I was listening to a programme recently about Beatrice Harrison who was a cellist who was a bit eccentric. She practised in the garden at night sometimes and noticed that a nightingale was singing along with her (or vice versa).

She contacted her friends at the BBC and the rest is history.

I don't think I've ever heard a nightingale in real life, but from recordings, I don't get what all the excitement is about. Must listen to "Tweet of the Day" more.

Some long time ago, I had a bedroom on the ground floor, with bushes outside the window. One summer night I had the window open, and I was woken by a nightingale sitting in that bush and singing its little heart out. You have no idea how loud it was. An unforgettable experience:-)
