The house move is driving me mad. Was moving in October . Then council decided to install new kitchen. I booked furniture removals, decorators , cleaner, carpet layer etc. for Decrmber.

Still no kitchen, decorators not working for two weeks over Christmas and New Year , cleaners away for the week before Christmas yet if the kitchen is ready in two weeks I am expected to move within two weeks .

bet it will snow sad and younger daughter waiting to book her skiing holiday

And I broke a finger yesterday,

Anya Tue 29-Nov-16 10:37:49

Sounds like a typical council cock-up! Pity you're caught in the middle Annie and at Christmas too.

So sorry.

Anya Tue 29-Nov-16 10:38:34

Just spotted the broken finger bit. What a mess. Poor you.

FarNorth Tue 29-Nov-16 10:38:41

I'm not surprised you're fed up Anniebach. Especially after the broken finger.

brew cupcake. ((hugs))

Anya Tue 29-Nov-16 10:39:13

How did you break it?

Devorgilla Tue 29-Nov-16 10:39:48

Sounds like a disaster AB. Sorry to hear about your finger. Glad it isn't stopping you posting though so life isn't all bad.
Unfortunately one is in the hands of these people and your time is not considered important. It will all seem less fraught on that first bright Spring morning in your new home.

merlotgran Tue 29-Nov-16 10:40:59

Moving in the winter is hell without all the hold-ups and a broken finger. I don't blame you for being fed up, anniebach

Is it worth you kicking up a fuss or have you already tried that?

Jane10 Tue 29-Nov-16 10:46:12

What a shame Annie. Nothing is straightforward is it! Hope your finger isn't too painful. Do keep us informed as to progress.

Jayh Tue 29-Nov-16 10:58:29

Moving house is stressful enough without holdups and broken fingers. This too will pass so hold in there and I look forward to reading the post that tells us you are settled in your lovely new home. I hope you have plenty of help with packing.
Meanwhile ???

Oh dear Annie nothing worse than being at the mercy of other people. And a broken finger sad.

Can you get your DD give council a rollicking on your behalf ?

I had to do this myself with problem with my MIL. The housing authority has left her warden controlled flat till last to put in a new kitchen and bathroom in.
She has dementia and needs to be rehoused till work is complete. ( Our house due to stairs and upstairs loo not suitable)
We have being asking them to get her accommodation sorted since summer.
Saturday a letter In post to mIL (luckily DH intercepted it) that they were ripping the kitchen out first thing monday morning!
(No mention of the accommodation.)
So first thing Monday morning the
rollicking telephone conversation.

Your DD could explain that you need to gets sorted asap before the weather gets worse as you have health issues.
And she has to make arrangements so you need a fixed date
Sometimes another voice helps
I hope you get into your new home soon.

Luckygirl Tue 29-Nov-16 11:58:24

Just keep your mind on the future when you are finally settled in what sounds like ideal accommodation for you (and a new kitchen!) and your finger is well again! Think how great it will be! smile

Anniebach Tue 29-Nov-16 14:20:18

I do love you all, I just knew there would be kindness here.

Broke a finger by lifting a too heavy, too large bag of rubbish into the wheelie bin , felt a twit having it X rayed,, did you fall? Did you trap your hand ? Did something very heavy fall on your hand? Nooooooi I lifted a bag of rubbish.

I phoned the council, the housing officer was on leave last week, she said i will ask buildings now, yep he is on leave this week.

And things get worse, had phone call this morning, - John McDonald is visiting the constituency in January , dinner and lecture, guess who has the honour of meeting and greeting

Ana Tue 29-Nov-16 14:44:40

Annie you can't, you just can't...shock

So sorry things aren't working out on the home front at the moment but they will do eventually. It will be lovely for you to not have to climb that hill!

Have you had a Dexa scan? Surely a finger bone shouldn't break that easily, but if it was very heav bag of rubbish as you say, perhaps that's all it takes...

Anniebach Tue 29-Nov-16 15:04:21

Ana, I am not, grin

The bag was very heavy and when I lifted it I bumped it against the top of the bin and it swung taking my hand with it , happened so easily, only had an X-Ray and splint, not doing a long car journey to the main hospital - unless it happens again , I do have very skinny fingers , no meat on the bone smile

Candlefran Tue 29-Nov-16 15:06:09

Anniebflowerscupcake brew

Poor finger. sad

Synonymous Tue 29-Nov-16 15:17:35

Ooh dear Annie poor you! Hope you have good pain relief and will have lots of help to move and that it all happens faster than you expect. Sending (((hugs))) and flowers

Anniebach Tue 29-Nov-16 20:51:13

Thank you all, kind words do heal .

Enough of my moaning, good news for those who do read my posts, I finally get my new specs next week, will see the a and s keys , and the others I hit in error, sadly there will be no improvement with my spelling ?

DaphneBroon Tue 29-Nov-16 21:25:24

Would it be out of order to suggest you might like to show John McDonnell the extent of the damage to your finger?(hoping it is the middle finger, which hand is immaterial)
To show him all you have to do is extend the finger in an upwards movement gringrin
Seriously, though sending every sympathy and hope you are not in too much pain flowers

Luckygirl Tue 29-Nov-16 21:28:23

Hope your new specs live up to expectations. I had some new ones a few weeks ago - I went for great big ones and they are totally brilliant - lots of room for the varifocal so I can see distance, music and reading. I look like a Victorian schoolmarm, but what the heck!

We look forward to accurate spelling in your posts!

rosesarered Tue 29-Nov-16 21:37:26

Daphnegrin great idea!
Moving house in Winter is never ideal, but so hard to make removal plans if they change the date.At least there will be a nice new kitchen for you though.I think it's worth phoning them as others suggest to get a definite date.Get help with the packing too.You have been waiting a long time to get the bungalow you want, and it won't be long now.Sorry to hear about your injury, what on earth was in the rubbish to make it so heavy shock
Keep well away from 'Old MacDonald' or you may lose your temper.

Anniebach Tue 29-Nov-16 21:58:41

Luckygirl,mi have chosen large frames this time, no chance of my spelling improving, not now, I am just really bad at it, odd because I can spell if asked but not when I typr.

Rosesarered ,I telephoned again today, chap in charge of buildings is on leave so have to wait, hopefully I will have a date whrn he returns.

Daphne, what a suggestion , so naughty, but it is a middle finger, oh how tempting ?

cornergran Tue 29-Nov-16 22:39:23

What a pickle, annie, you must be so frustrated. I do feel for you. We moved in the third week of December once with two little children. I still recall the difficulties but also recall the first thing we did was to install a tree with lights in the front window. That tree so lifted our spirits. You have done all you can to expedite your move, fingers crossed for a manageable date for you very soon, it will happen, it has to. Sending lots,of sympathy and hoping that injured finger isn't giving too much pain. As another poster has suggested, please do get yourself checked, not so sure that bone shouldn't have withstood the bag of rubbish. Good luck and take care.

When I moved into my first council house after splitting with my ex husband, I was told I had to have it decorated and cleaned in one week, from top to bottom, ready to move my stuff in. It was filthy! It had that yellow tar staining from cigarette smoke all over the windows and the paper all needed to come off and re-decorate. It was a hard slog and no leeway in time change neither. I did it, with help, but I don't know how now. Same moving here, but at least here was clean and painted, only carpets to fit the day before we moved. It was all up in the air though until the last minute when they expect you to wave a magic wand and be sorted.

All I can say is make sure that all is packed, ready to go. Mark boxes with different colours for different rooms (easier for men to follow if using removal men grin) This way made it so much easier for everyone on the day really. Are you all packed up?

Alima Wed 30-Nov-16 07:10:46

What a shame your much longed-for move is throwing up so much to worry about. It will turn out fine, things rarely go like clockwork and those involved will be used to having to re-arrange dates. Typical that the person who pulls the strings is on leave, doesn't his office give cover for such times? Maybe your finger is trying to tell you something, take a break (no pun intended!), do what you need to do then let the others take over and do their jobs. Think it's a wonderful idea of Daphne's. Perhaps you could offer one for those of us who would also like to afford him the gesture!
Keep telling yourself "it will be fine".
