The house move is driving me mad. Was moving in October . Then council decided to install new kitchen. I booked furniture removals, decorators , cleaner, carpet layer etc. for Decrmber.

Still no kitchen, decorators not working for two weeks over Christmas and New Year , cleaners away for the week before Christmas yet if the kitchen is ready in two weeks I am expected to move within two weeks .

bet it will snow sad and younger daughter waiting to book her skiing holiday

I moved 15 times with my Mum and Dad, RAF MQs. Then I went and did the same with OH. Madness. We threw out a lot of stuff and sold a lot of stuff I would rather have kept, but we could not take it with us and it would have cost an arm and a leg to store for 3+ yrs and then another 3+ years abroad.

Now I am beginning to think I am lucky. Most of the clutter has gone, I made sure that 3 sons cleared their stuff out of the loft before they decided to leave it with us. They have their own loft! Anyway when we are gone it would mean they would have had to do it then.

So, sorry you are feeling frustrated about your move, but look on the bright side. You can use this as an opportunity to de-clutter! Excellent! Hope your finger soon gets better.

OH ANNIEBACH....that will be such an exciting time moving into your
new "Forever Home" as Kirstie Allsop
calls it. (I love her enthusiasm)

You will be so happy you'll forget all the hassle in getting there...broken finger included.

In the mean time enjoy all the planning.
Yes colour coding boxes is good for the removel men. Plus a smile and a grateful attitude towards them will work wonders.

Before I moved into a house.... after spending 20 or so years in flats of one kind or another......I drew a scale plan of the main living room and then scale peices of paper labelled with the name of each piece of furniture.

I then had great fun moving them all around "in the room" on paper, to get the best layout.

It saved a lot of time once in the actual room instead of "umming and arrrring"about each piece of furniture and where it should go.

Anyway ANNIEBACH I wish you well and hope you LOVE your new home, when you get there.

I am taking arnica thanks.

What a difficult time some have had moving house , you have my sympathy

Well , just over a month and I should have the key, I have waited nearly seventeen years for this bungalow , will really believe I have it when I sign the tenancy agreement and am clutching the keys ?

Morgana Wed 30-Nov-16 19:13:26

Good luck with the move. Re post about using arnica: I always use the cream now as I am not sure how the tablets might react with my normal medication. Fingers crossed for a successful move.

Annie just seen your good news. Sorry to hear about finger, hope it heals soon - take it easy & let others take some of the strain.

It's horrible when you've no control over timing - when I moved last year I sold to a cash buyer who needed to be in within 3 weeks (Park Home), so Removal firm booked (they packed ornaments, china & glass), everything into storage apart from personal possessions & some clothes which went with me. I moved out on Monday & went to stay with my DD, Storage Unit filled on Tuesday by my lovely Removal firm, Wednesday went to view a Property & made an offer, Thursday just before we left to go & look for a car for DD Estate Agent phoned, offer accepted but could I go with Bank Statements (to prove I had funds) & Driving Licence for ID, Car purchased for DD.

Then problems started, Solicitors were dealing with sale although it was a Park Home, owner had died & to make matters worse Park Owner had died & there was a lack of paperwork, I moved in 6 weeks later (after a variety of temporary accommodation) but I didn't own my home & couldn't dispose of furniture etc until it was all signed over. Another 5 weeks until I had paid for it so no chance to re-carpet as I needed to get my furniture out of storage (£££).

On the bright side I love my new home & I'm nearer DD & DGS, new arrival due end of May & lots of new friends.

Sorry this is such a long post but good luck & I'm sure it'll all work out for the best. brewcupcake or if you prefer wineflowers

Annie sorry to hear about your finger, you will not be able to do so much now, so try to take things easy, and let others do the work, just supervise.Good luck with your finger and with the move.

Sorry about the finger.

Just let the hassles go and make it the best makeshift Christmas ever. Sometimes chaos is a good thing (says the Queen of chaos) can you go to friends for lunch or the pub.

In the overall scheme of things it is just one day, winter moves, summer moves, bloody moves in general are all fraught with problems but you are about to make an exciting leap at time when new neighbours may feel enabled to call and start new friendships....

Councils do seem to consider that they are dealing with units rather than people.......but mulled wine and chocolate cure most things, as the light comes back after Christmas you won't know yourself for excitements of you new place.

cornergran Wed 30-Nov-16 11:59:49

Such good news, Annie. smile

Disgruntled Wed 30-Nov-16 11:44:09

Oh, phew, hallelujah!
Would you consider taking arnica for your finger? It's great for lessening bruising.

Housing officer telephoned this morning. Work on kitchen starting next Tuesday . I will have the tenancy of the property after New Year and they will scrap the two week rule of me holding the two tenancies and extend it to FOUR WEEKS to give me time to move. Yippee.

My son in law is back in the country though January so they can come down here to help.

I am sure all the good thoughts here reached her

Thank you all X

kittylester Wed 30-Nov-16 07:16:49

Not much more to say, Ab but here are some flowers for your spanking new kitchen!

Alima Wed 30-Nov-16 07:10:46

What a shame your much longed-for move is throwing up so much to worry about. It will turn out fine, things rarely go like clockwork and those involved will be used to having to re-arrange dates. Typical that the person who pulls the strings is on leave, doesn't his office give cover for such times? Maybe your finger is trying to tell you something, take a break (no pun intended!), do what you need to do then let the others take over and do their jobs. Think it's a wonderful idea of Daphne's. Perhaps you could offer one for those of us who would also like to afford him the gesture!
Keep telling yourself "it will be fine".

When I moved into my first council house after splitting with my ex husband, I was told I had to have it decorated and cleaned in one week, from top to bottom, ready to move my stuff in. It was filthy! It had that yellow tar staining from cigarette smoke all over the windows and the paper all needed to come off and re-decorate. It was a hard slog and no leeway in time change neither. I did it, with help, but I don't know how now. Same moving here, but at least here was clean and painted, only carpets to fit the day before we moved. It was all up in the air though until the last minute when they expect you to wave a magic wand and be sorted.

All I can say is make sure that all is packed, ready to go. Mark boxes with different colours for different rooms (easier for men to follow if using removal men grin) This way made it so much easier for everyone on the day really. Are you all packed up?

cornergran Tue 29-Nov-16 22:39:23

What a pickle, annie, you must be so frustrated. I do feel for you. We moved in the third week of December once with two little children. I still recall the difficulties but also recall the first thing we did was to install a tree with lights in the front window. That tree so lifted our spirits. You have done all you can to expedite your move, fingers crossed for a manageable date for you very soon, it will happen, it has to. Sending lots,of sympathy and hoping that injured finger isn't giving too much pain. As another poster has suggested, please do get yourself checked, not so sure that bone shouldn't have withstood the bag of rubbish. Good luck and take care.

Anniebach Tue 29-Nov-16 21:58:41

Luckygirl,mi have chosen large frames this time, no chance of my spelling improving, not now, I am just really bad at it, odd because I can spell if asked but not when I typr.

Rosesarered ,I telephoned again today, chap in charge of buildings is on leave so have to wait, hopefully I will have a date whrn he returns.

Daphne, what a suggestion , so naughty, but it is a middle finger, oh how tempting ?

rosesarered Tue 29-Nov-16 21:37:26

Daphnegrin great idea!
Moving house in Winter is never ideal, but so hard to make removal plans if they change the date.At least there will be a nice new kitchen for you though.I think it's worth phoning them as others suggest to get a definite date.Get help with the packing too.You have been waiting a long time to get the bungalow you want, and it won't be long now.Sorry to hear about your injury, what on earth was in the rubbish to make it so heavy shock
Keep well away from 'Old MacDonald' or you may lose your temper.

Luckygirl Tue 29-Nov-16 21:28:23

Hope your new specs live up to expectations. I had some new ones a few weeks ago - I went for great big ones and they are totally brilliant - lots of room for the varifocal so I can see distance, music and reading. I look like a Victorian schoolmarm, but what the heck!

We look forward to accurate spelling in your posts!

DaphneBroon Tue 29-Nov-16 21:25:24

Would it be out of order to suggest you might like to show John McDonnell the extent of the damage to your finger?(hoping it is the middle finger, which hand is immaterial)
To show him all you have to do is extend the finger in an upwards movement gringrin
Seriously, though sending every sympathy and hope you are not in too much pain flowers

Anniebach Tue 29-Nov-16 20:51:13

Thank you all, kind words do heal .

Enough of my moaning, good news for those who do read my posts, I finally get my new specs next week, will see the a and s keys , and the others I hit in error, sadly there will be no improvement with my spelling ?
