Would you want to know?

Someone I know has recently been diagnosed with cancer, they have a life expectancy of around 2 years, they regard themselves as privileged, as they can plan how to spend their time.

If, in the past, I had known what my future would be, I would have shot myself!!

No, we ( cancer sufferers apart) are a lot better for not knowing.

No I definitely would NOT want to know what is ahead for me. If it's good then it will be a lovely surprise and why would I want to know about bad things and dread the future?

There are web site that will predict your life expectancy, no way would I wish to know. Apart form anything else, if it predicted another 10 years, I could get killed in a road accident tomorrow.

The Good Book tells us not to try to look into the future. My dear sister always says you should prepare for the worst and hope for the best

I go against the grain- I would like to know even if it meant a shortened life expectancy.

So would I, Charleygirl I would like to have a chance to tidy up a few things (physically and metaphorically) before I am switched off.

I wouldn't mind knowing about the next month. I've wasted a whole summer waiting for an ENT procedure at a local hospital and when I rang up I was told that the consultant hadn't marked it as 'urgent' although he had said that on a letter to my GP. Other than that, I think I'd prefer not to know what the future may bring for good or ill.

No thanks. I think that's what causes half of my anxieties is worry about what's going to happen. I'd worry more if it was for the worse. I'm trying very hard to live in the moment. I don't always succeed but that's the way I'd love to live.

When I got married and started a family I was full of confidence and optimism. If I could have seen into the future I'm not sure if I could have coped with it. At the moment I'm just hoping I will make it to my 70th at the end of the year.

I hope you do falconbird and that you can enjoy at least a day at a time.

Take each day as it comes is my motto now, I have worried so much in the past about what might happen, that I lost the ability to enjoy the day. That is not the case now.

But sometimes the future can be altered....that accident wasn't inevitable. Yes, if I could be there to say, don't cross the road just now or take a different route home tonight or buy that sleep monitor.

If that would require knowing in advance then I'd want to know,

I used to be a Girl Guide and believed in the motto "be prepared." I can't let go of it and often wish I could. It's good to have a realistic view of events to come but not good to be always worrying about how they can be dealt with or avoided.

As a clairvoyant/astrologer/tarot reader, I've discovered that the future isn't set in stone - only potentials. That said, I like to have some idea of where I'm going, planning for the worst, but knowing that it won't be that bad. Now I've done my best to be prepared, I can relax.

My mother had a terminal cancer diagnosis . She did not want to know but as I was with her at the hospital didn't mind if I was told. I've always needed to know the bigger picture so I found out. (Was told about 3 months ) As I was staying with her ( I lived over 250 miles away ) I remained at her house caring for her until she died 10 weeks later. If I had such a diagnosis I would want to know.
But if we are just talking about life's general path - my way on looking a things is life is about the journey not the destination.

If I'd known then what I know now, I would probably have worked much harder at school and therefore been away at uni instead of at the party where I met my ex. Then my two wonderful children would never have been born and I would not have my beautiful 3 week old grandson now.

I don't want to know what is in the future. As someone has said on this thread you could be killed by a car tomorrow. Two years ago my beloved sister and I had a lovely day with all our children and grandchildren talking about what they might be like when they grew up. Shortly after that she was diagnosed with cancer and after an awful struggle she died last month. So I think one should live for the day and not even think about what might happen.

I am a glass half full sort of person and would not like to know my general future. I don't think that would be good for us as a species, - but if I had a limited life expectancy because of an illness I hope I'd want to face up and prepare. I still look at my stars though.
