The start of the slippery slope?

It was warm yesterday and I was tired, but sitting watching the Tour of Britain on the TV with a cup of tea the inevitable happened. I suddenly realised there was a warm wet feeling - and I woke up to find warm tea soaking my clothes and an upside down mug on my chest sad. DH, of course, found it very funny, but maybe this is the start of a slippery slope...?

Sorry but that made me laugh!
I often sit and watch my OH nodding off with either a cup or glass in his hand, and cannot even think how many times his laptop looks near to landing on the floor while he is 'watching' something with his eyes shut lol.

Wobblybits Wed 07-Sept-16 08:48:38

I'm always resting mt eyes whilst my laptop is on my lap.

Some once told me that old age is when you shouldn't try to sit down holding a cup of tea. Oh so true.

kittylester Wed 07-Sept-16 09:05:57

Along the same lines - why do we get food stains on our tops nowadays?

Jane10 Wed 07-Sept-16 09:06:25

There's something about 'Flog It'. I often seem to wake up as the end music starts! Its a horrible feeling though and I wake up with my heart racing.
My GPs always had a rest after lunch and my Dad used to have a nap each lunchtime before surgery. Maybe we're programmed to have a 'siesta' but we've overridden the urge as we have to work. Now I've retired maybe I'm actually getting back to a sort of normal ? Don't know.

I wore a brand new dress on Monday to look after DGS2 at his house (Boden clearance, blue and white stripes, very crisp and clean looking). By 10am I'd thrown half a cup of tea down myself, so had to whip it off and put it in DD2's washer/dryer for a full rinse through, while I sat in my coat. On with the dress again, until DGS2's melted orange juice ice lolly ended up down it mid-afternoon, so back to the machine. I put it on again this morning and somehow spilt the juice from my mixed berries straight down it. It's soaking in a bowl now, not looking very new any more...

I've bought the same dress in green and white stripes, but might be better just sending it back grin

After lunch yesterday DGS and I each had a supermarket's own brand of Magnum ice lolly, while watching a Wallace & Gromit story. That was the plan anyway ... DGS sat at the table with kitchen roll ready to wipe any drips, while I sat on the settee and woke up when sticky ice cream was running down inside my t-shirt - yuck grin

Maggie you're giving me hope - and making me laugh grin
I have looked at these attachments you can get to fix a towel round your neck kitty, but I feel that's a step too far at the moment. But why is it that anything with a tomato base or chocolate seems to head straight for my clothes sad?

Disgruntled Wed 07-Sept-16 10:06:55

My mum used to call stains on clothes "canteen medals".

Christinefrance Wed 07-Sept-16 10:09:56

Quite apart from dozing I find I can't eat gravy or soup without it ending up on my top. As for chocolate - well.

merlotgran Wed 07-Sept-16 10:17:40

If it's any consolation, DSiL attended a Navy dinnner in Dartmouth where the guest of honour was the Duke of Edinburgh, sporting some obvious gravy stains down the front of his uniform!

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 07-Sept-16 10:19:18

Bless. grin

Willow500 Wed 07-Sept-16 10:22:09

My OH is constantly dropping gravy, cereal milk, soup down his front - he blames his rotund shape grin - I fell asleep with a glass of red wine in my hand a few weeks ago - my white sofa didn't fare well angry

radicalnan Wed 07-Sept-16 10:22:28

Well, at least you hadn't drunk the tea before you got wet and warm by it.............

Elysium Wed 07-Sept-16 10:23:48

Slippery slope? A multicoloured scarf covers all manner of dribbles especially when draped across a favourite top. ?

ginny Wed 07-Sept-16 10:24:41

Love that Disgruntled.

Going back to the spilt tea . Having recently lost just over three stone in weight I no longer have a 'ledge' to rest my hand and mug. Many a time have I plopped the cup down into my lap. Not a problem one would contemplate.

Rosina Wed 07-Sept-16 10:35:39

This is not age related - fear not! When I worked full time with two school age children it was not unknown for me to come home, make a quick cuppa, sit down 'just for a minute' and jerk awake with tea soaking into my clothes. I gave up after about three soakings; it was all down to being just so tired.

Pamaga Wed 07-Sept-16 11:07:00

I recently did this for the first time. Keep dozing off from around seven or eight most nights and one night I was holding a cup of hot chocolate at the time. I nearly scalded myself and my clothing was soaked. I am 69 so I guess I don't need to worry overmuch as younger folks admit to doing it too!

TriciaF Wed 07-Sept-16 11:33:57

We used to use napkins or meals, but now I put on a full size pinny, otherwise clean clothes would be covered in spills.
And I've done the dozing off with a drink thing too, only mine is usually coffee.
When I saw "slippery slope" I thought it was going to be about falls, something I seem to be very prone to now.

TriciaF Wed 07-Sept-16 11:34:29

napkins FOR meals

Bellanonna Wed 07-Sept-16 11:58:04

Tea towel tucked into neck of top. It works.

pollyperkins Wed 07-Sept-16 13:47:23

Me too Tricia - either a full length apron or a tea towel tied round the neck , if the food looks as if it would stain. And I make DH do it too as he spills things even more than me. This is when we are on out own, of course!

Katek Wed 07-Sept-16 14:35:13

I blame a slightly (!) over generous bosom for having assorted food stains down my front. Not all at the same time I hasten to add, but anything from tomato seeds to soup can end up decorating the front of my top. I try to choose my food carefully if out for a meal. My biggest problem though is crumbs down the cleavage....very itchy until I can get to the loo for a shake down!

pollyperkins Wed 07-Sept-16 14:39:49
