Feeling guilty......just bought a very pretty handbag online at Debenhams, lovely summery colours/pattern with butterflies as well. Why am I feeling like I should send it back?? Just loved it and bought it, not my usual considered self.

That's lovely Katek - good for you smile I'm off to the shops now and I may just do something just as impulsive!

Do we have Katyk and KatyK? Keep the bag if you love it, you will regret it otherwise.

We're at an age when we should be able to buy ourselves somthing we love. I spent a good deal of my life doing without. Your right the bags is lovely and summery you'll get your money's worth.

oooh green with envy over here!!

After reading a thread on here I bought a carpet bag from this company. I am embarrassed to say that I have never used it, although I love it. I don't often buy on impulse.

my older brother is always impulse buying ...then a few days later he changes his mind and takes the goods back for a refund!

Lovely bag! Throw caution to the wind. It's summer and it's a handbag - it'll definitely get used, won't it? Not like an expensive pair of summer sandals from last year that are still languishing at the back of my wardrobe... grin

Very pretty, I'm staying away from Debenhams site.
H walks away when I look at handbags grin

LullyDully Fri 06-May-16 15:48:15

So do we have KatyK and Katyk?

Synonymous Fri 06-May-16 15:48:33

Katek it looks very pretty and it is also functional so it is nothing to feel guilty about. I hope you will thoroughly enjoy it! smile

Why ever do we beat ourselves up about things like this? morethan says she has spent a good deal of her life doing without and I have done that too as no doubt have many others. In retirement it is obviously 'our' time and so long as we don't go mad and go beyond our means we shouldn't feel guilty. The problem is that so many of us have brainwashed ourselves into taking only what we absolutely need and what is left after everyone else has been catered for.
I am working very hard on not feeling or behaving in that way any more! grin

I love Katek's bag and also the carpet bags shysal has but too expensive for me. I recently bought a Signare tapestry bag in a William Morris design that I love and am pleased with that, it's much cheaper, you can see lots of designs on Amazon.

Its a pretty bag and from my remembrance of some of your posts you haven't been having an easy time so why shouldn't you have a nice treat. Enjoy!!!smile

Katek Fri 06-May-16 16:09:59

Yes lully we have KatyK and katek! Apologies for any confusion!

The bag stays! You're right, a lot of us have spent time putting others' needs first, now it's the dgc whom I would happily have spent the same amount on. Must work harder on undoing a lifetime of conditioning! grin

kittylester Fri 06-May-16 16:11:43

Just what Teetime said!! Enjoy!

Katek Fri 06-May-16 16:13:51

You're correct Teetime, it's not been a terribly good start to the year between one thing and another, although I think we've turned a corner in some things. I shall cherish my bag as my reward for stoicism - if not sheer bloody mindedness!!

Willow500 Fri 06-May-16 21:21:50

I looked at this in the store yesterday and was very tempted for a wedding I'm going to in Sept - it's really pretty. Enjoy it - we all deserve a treat smile

rubylady Fri 06-May-16 22:11:37

You enjoy it Katek you deserve it. You have worked hard for lots of years and are still doing so with your family etc so enjoy every minute you share with your bag. Take it with you on spa days, to the hairdressers, out to lunch etc. Make it your "I'm going out to treat myself bag" so that you remember to take special time out just for yourself and recharging your batteries and spoiling yourself. I do it, life is hard so a little pampering doesn't do us any harm at all. smile

whitewave Fri 06-May-16 22:15:46

I need a summer bagenvy.

Synonymous Sat 07-May-16 00:30:57

Go for it whitewave! smile

Just love handbags and that one is beautiful katek. Enjoy it, we all deserve something nice.

harrigran Sat 07-May-16 05:15:34

I think it is lovely. I have to have bags big enough to get my medical gear in and if it is pretty too that is a bonus smile

dizzygran Sat 07-May-16 09:25:50

No need for guilty feelings - just enjoy. We have worked hard all our lives, raised children, cared for parents and still care for grandchildren. Time to spoil and treat ourselves.... Just talked myself into going to Debenhams!!

Kayteeb53 Sat 07-May-16 09:33:41

Love the bag! Sounds like you are not impulsive so the bag must have called to you ?. I am impulsive about buying make up and regretting it! My DD always asks if I bought it with my birthday money (which she knows I have spent 6 times over) and we laugh.
Enjoy your beautiful bag

annodomini Sat 07-May-16 09:36:14

Don't feel guilty KateK. What is life without a bit of self-indulgence? I felt slightly guilty about the Jo Malone scent I bought a couple of weeks ago, but soon got over that. It's better for me than the huge number of chocolate bars I could would have bought with the money.
