I hate lingering swish marks!

My sentiments exactly. I have given him step by step instructions but he just cannot grasp the concept.

What is so difficult????

Or does he do it just to wind me up?

Other moan wiping down kitchen tops with tea towels. No no no.

You're not the only one.....I always have to go behind him and squeeze the cloths out. We sort of take turns with washing up but I always have to wipe over the surfaces and wring out the cloths!! Mind you, he's the expert at stacking the dishwasher!!

OH will wash up but usually leaves a full bowl of dirty water and doesn't clean the sink.

Can someone teach my S that part of washing up includes wiping the surfaces even if it is with a soggy cloth.
I'm sick of saying.

I honestly think that some men just don't see these things as important. I go along the health hazard lines. Sometimes it works, but then forgotten. At least your men do the dishes. Mine always does the evening meal ones and has gradually improved in his technique

Slightly off the OP, but soggy cloths feed bugs!
Years ago my friend brought a cloth to a picnic, wiped kids faces with it and it was stinky.
Now I put mine through the washing machine and keep them on a radiator....they stay dry and fresh and if I want them for wiping I wet them a little and put them back...find this solves both irritation and hygiene

I remember being horrified when I was a young mum seeing some of the other mums wipe their children's faces with the dishcloth. Not only picking up germs (runny noses etc) but horrible for the children as well.
I don't particularly like wet wipes so I use a warm flannel (and her own little towel) on DGD after meals then it goes in a hot wash with the towels.

Oh yes. Mine often leaves the bowl of washing up water. He can't bear to throw anything away. Might come in useful.

I have been known to swish the dish washing cloth round grandsons' mucky chops! It's one of this foam/scrim jobbies and I do keep it very clean!

I'm currently using the tea towel to dry the outsid of my nice new red kettle. The other one got chalked up and I intend to keep this one gleaming. I will use the same cloth to dry my apple. Rarely wipe any dishes up. Leave 'em to dry.

My husband does the same trick with dripping dish cloths etc. He also dries his hands on the kitchen towel, then leaves it screwed up tight in a ball, so why can't he do that with the dishcloth?

My otherwise perfectly lovely husband refused to do the washing up for years after we met ... apparently his couple of years (between leaving school and doing his national service, so not yesterday or even the day before!) working in the Royal Copenhagen factory washing the porcelain put him off!
Seemed to think the rest of us love doing dishes.

He has now seen the error of his ways and will take his turn BUT leaves everything stacked up in the drainer thingy instead of rinsing and placing in the dishwasher.
He is quite good at emptying the dishwasher but for some reason always, always leaves the pots and pans stacked for me to place in their cupboard!

Not sure what he uses the tea towel for as it's usually left scrunched upon the counter top but we don't use it to dry dishes so I'm not overly concerned, just curious.

Mmm, doesn't clean sink and misses most of worktops. Soggy dishcloth too. It must be a man thing. Not giving up on training him though!

Why would anyone wash and rinse dishes and then put them through the dishwasher Thingmajig
I scrape of leftovers and rinse anything particularly messy under a hot running tap then straight into the washer.

My Other half does the washing up, we leave dishes to dry and he cleans the kitchen in his own way. I leave him to it and I am just grateful he does it. He doesn't moan how I do things so why should I moan to him about how he does something. The only thing I get mad at is when he puts the handbrake on he does it so hard that I have to get his help before driving the car!

Yes I didn't get the wash and rinse the dishes and then put them in the dishwasher. Like Nina, scape and then put everything I can in the dishwasher and put it on after 10 pm.

I do object to DH wiping up spills with the tea towel, especially as he buys paper kitchen towels.

Some of you are such wonderful housewives.

The soggy dishcloth strikes a chord with me: my DH understands the need for high levels of cleanliness and he has a very strong grip - goes with his job- but still that cloth is left dripping!

I have a nice new red kettle too Jing, which I keep beautifully polished. I bought it and the matching red toaster to brighten up my new cream kitchen. Also lovely red tea towels from Sainsbury's which I often use to polish the (very expensive) granite work tops.

Not terribly house proud but the kitchen cost in excess of £20000 so I'm a bit precious about it.

We are saving for a new kitchen but be lucky for half that price, but I will still be thrilled when its done.

I am still in wondering what colour stage.

Mine leaves a bowl of cold festering washing up water for me.......grim ? but not for much longer! New kitchen with a much longed-for dishwasher being installed next week! And no soggy dishcloths because it's wrung out and hung to dry on a little hook by the window and changed every other day.

Pondering on painting one kitchen wall lime green.........?
