Its Leap Year

I might get off GN and go out in the sun, before it goes in.

I remember there being a bit of a hoo hah at work several years ago about pay for the extra day. We had lots of student staff on weekly pay and the rest of us (the permanent staff) were on monthly pay. It didn't take much of a leap (see what I did there?) to realise that the weekly paid were getting the extra day's pay but the monthly paid weren't. And at a staff meeting one member of staff made this point - he wouldn't back down on it and we all got an extra day's pay!

I remembered that if you are paid weekly or shift by shift then you get an extra days pay in a leap year but if you are paid monthly (salary/12) you do not. As a weekly paid state pensioner I am trying to be thrilled about this extra £16 but have realised that it will barely cover the extra food/electricity/gas needed for this day. Better not go mad and spend it all in the one shop

I am driving DS1 to Sheffield for a hospital appointment. This is a once a year check for him and it is usually just before Christmas but it has edged into February which is much less hectic. His appointment lasts about 30 minutes and it should take us about 1hr 15minutes each way to get there. M1 traffic being what it is, we set off at least 2 hours before his appointment, which is usually running late, and then we hit rush hour traffic on the way back.

But, I don't care! In the normal run of events I don't get to have that much time, on my own, with DS. Although I wish it wasn't necessary for him to have the appointment, it helps with his walking such a lot.

Haha, the state pension thing hadn't occurred to me!

When I empty my loose change jar I spend the money at the garden centre because it's money I have not missed so I treat myself with it.
In the same way I am pretending that the leap year day is an extra day in my life when I get to do anything I want, because it is a bonus!(I did say pretend).

I love the Google Logo too!My ideal day would be a pleasant lunch with an entertaining companion --but expect I'll be dining chez moi with Judi,my cat !

I would fly to Iceland and spend a day exploring volcanoes and waterfalls, then watch the sunset and the Northern Lights would definitely make an appearance.

But hey, I'm a realist

It's the day we single grans can all propose to the man of our choice! Can't think of one off-hand, but even if I could, my knees are too stiff to go down on one and ask for the dubious honour!

As a fortnightly paid pensioner, will I get paid an extra day? And will the "pay days" still stay the same. I can't get my head round it as they say.

You'll get paid on the same day you always do. I get my pension four-weekly on a Monday.

You wouldn't expect to be paid less on those months which only have 30 days, not 31, would you?

No, you're right, Ana! I always get confused over these sort of things, such as the clocks going forwards/backwards, left and right etc etc. [even before I became a bit senile!]

I would have liked to spend today loafing around on the sofa drinking lots of coffee and not getting dressed all day - DH doesn't really go for that unless one is very poorly so it was off to golf (9 holes it was sunny and a bit warm) then chores and some body housework.1st March tomorrow - the first day of meteorological Spring so that's good news.

It's my friend Phil's birthday ,HAPPY 18th! ( even though he's in his 70's like me!)

My youngest granddaughter is four today, so this is the first birthday she has celebrated on her birth date. We are all having a brilliant day together.
