We're flooded in Aberdeenshire.

Katek - feel so sorry for all of you up there. We were flooded out in 1998 and it is absolutely no fun. People think that once the water has gone and you are dried out it is all back to normal but, of course, it is not. Our house needed so much work doing (digging up foundations, taking plaster off the walls etc etc) that we had to live upstairs for six months. We could have moved into a hotel but DH wouldn't hear of it as he wanted to keep an eye on what was going on. All this happened around the time my father died and our daughter was in hospital with glandular fever. On the plus side, none of this affected the eventual sale of the property. Our buyers were totally unconcerned that we had been flooded only two years previously.

Thanks Not-we're currently keeping a very close eye on the burn. Dd has had to wade through 18" of water to get to her door. Worrying times.

so sorry to hear of your plight. Such a lovely place Aberdeen and its surroundings. I hope all gets back to normal soon and that the water has not invaded your house.

We've been watching this on the news and feeling so desperately sorry for all of you who've been caught up in the floods over recent weeks. A few years ago there was some fairly bad flooding not far from us - I recall the landlord of a pub had only just re-opened after a previous flood had shut them down for several months. And he had only taken over the pub that year - what a horrendous start for him, to be flooded out twice in quick succession.
So no, it's not 'back to normal' when it's dried out - that's only the start . I do hope the flooded burn doesn't reach your doors Katek. [fingers crossed emoticon]

I was looking at the Press and Journal on line and the photographs of flooding are horrendous. I've never seen anything like it in the East of Scotland which is normally one of the drier parts of the country. It's so sad. I hope you can keep dry, Katek.

Sending best wishes for you Katek. I've felt a bit fed up with the constant, relentless rain, grey skies and general miserable weather recently but kept a grip because I'm close to flooded areas but so lucky to be on higher ground and in an area away from the floods

Better outlook this evening-water has gone down significantly. There is a weather warning for tomorrow but will just have to take things as they come. Thanks for all the good wishes-much appreciated.

Hi katek. Thinking of you and all Aberrant at moment. Last week on gardeners question time they said at the moment priorities your homes don't worry about your gardens they will recover But when you eventually do try to tidy up your garden please wear gloves at all times in case of ant nasties left in soil. I kow at rhhe moment its your home that's the woory. But it was just a thought. For drier times. Good luck.

I lost my rag with my husband yesterday when he moaned endlessly about the windy weather, I told him that all the people in flooded areas would give their eye teeth for wind instead of all the rain!

I don't know how to empathise with you guys. It is awful. I wish I could wave a magic wand, but all I can hope is that things get better by Summer.

With luck the country is in for a dryer period.

I do hope this spurs central government into doing something constructive. Spending real money, instead of lining consultants pockets and then finding they don't have the funds to carry things through. They've known for years this was likely to happen, even if not to this extent, and each time whichever party puts things off. Hopefully........!
