re Favourite Box sets

Foyle's War - great acting and brilliant period feel.

Yes, I like Foyle's War too, also Morse, Extras, Spaced, and Stella Street.

I LOVE Pride and Prejudice,have been watching it many times and not tire of it . Has to be the one with Colin Firth though.

We don't have any, I don't see the appeal of watching something repeatedly.

Nobody watches them one after the other, in fact it may be a year or two between watching episodes.

If that's your thing then, great. I don't understand the enjoyment of watching a mystery/ detective story when you know the outcome. Just a personal thing.

I agree on watching detective stories Nina, I dip into Morse because I was a big fan of John Thaw

I can happily re-watch films and TV and get something different out of it each time. Bit like re-reading book.

I often buy box sets of ITV/Ch4 series as I hate watching them with the adverts. I also find that I often don't understand what I've watched and I have to see certain episodes again to work out who's who. When we go away for a week or so I've started taking box sets with me so that if the weather is bad I can watch them..the latest purchase being Sherlock which I never saw when it was on the telly but has had rave reviews. I shall do the same with series two of The Returned when it comes out. Also can't wait for the next Game of Thrones to come out [annoyingly not till March] as I like to listen to the commentary on each episode as they explain why they use certain camera angles, locations etc I'm currently working my way through all episodes of The IT crowd which, again, I didn't watch when it was on the telly.

My one weakness - yes I am watching Larkrise this winter - is Casablance , I have to watch it every time I see it is being shown on tv, I dare not buy the DVD or record it

My dad spends a lot of time alone when my mum is in bed poorly. He likes a good drama and I almost always get him a box set of something as one of his Christmas presents. I am at a bit of a loss this year. Any ideas would be gratefully received.

I get West Wing mixed up with Green Wing; I loved Green Wing albeit only discovering it late on. I've never seen Spooks which is a gap in my education. Have bought The Wire but couldn't understand what they were saying and couldn't get the subtitles to work. Need to give it another go [have been putting eardrops in for a few days in a last ditch attempt at not going for a hearing test].

West Wing - best series ever. Dialogue, acting, storylines all superb. Jed Bartlet for President!

The West Wing, The Sopranos and The Wire. You have to persevere with the last one but it's worth it.

Loved Breaking Bad and Dexter - both too gory for my husband .....

I only own one box set, The Vicar of Dibley, Alice still makes me laugh every time at the final joke.

I don't actually have any box sets, but if I did it would be "Breaking Bad" which I could certainly watch again as I loved it so much.
Also, "House of Cards" (American version). And "Six Feet Under".

The Miss Marple collection with the simply brilliant Joan Hickson.
I will know who dunnit but I never tire of pottering around St Mary Mead.

The Barchester Chronicles and Hichcock films.

We watch loads of box sets and my all time favourite is Still Game. If you don't get Scottish tv, chances are you've never seen this gem.

There is a lot of swearing but it's necessary patter, I think. Totally unlike Mrs Brown's Boys, which was ok for the first series but quickly became a tired format.

We always re-watch the Xmas and New Year Still Game specials during the Christmas period and I probably know every line, but I just love it.
