re Favourite Box sets

We had a couple of the Madmen, but not the full set. My son has all the Breaking Bad and when he lived at home he tried to force us to watch them. I believe from like minded devotees it's one of the finest tv series ever, but I didn't really get into it. We tend not to have box sets, apart from the sublime Brideshead Revisited from a while ago. We have been catching up with Spiral, a wonderful French detective series, via a rental dvd club, but once I have watched it, I don't think I'd go back over it time and time again. My theory is box sets are for nostalgia, I'd really like some old '60s films, as awful as they were sometimes, because it reminds me of when I was growing up. I do have all The Godfather films, simply because I think the first two are among some of the finest cinema offerings.

Loved ER, of course George helped but DH and I both enjoyed the whole programme.

Homeland for drama. I still like ER and St Elsewhere too.

Tenko, have watched it loads of times on video and now dvd. The episode where Rose died was shown just before Christmas 1981, really put a damper on things!
More recent is Last Tango in Halifax, love that.

And, in fact, a distant relative was the blacksmith and his daughter ran the Post Office - how's that for fame?!

My friend said it was like watching paint dry, but I did enjoy it because my DF's family are from there!
(well, the place it was based on.)

We only own two boxed sets, both given to us by DD2 who obviously thinks we need educating in the Boxed Set department.
However they are both American, and very good - Treme, and Parks and Recreation. I think Ron Swanson is my favourite character of all time.

Brothers and Sisters is very good,felt a bit lost when I finished the last season. Great characters and storylines.

West Wing and the Sopranos. We bought Gavin and Stacey when we were on holiday and thoroughly enjoyed that too but we wouldn't watch it over and over

Gosh, I loved Jeeves and Wooster! Never been a fan of Stephen Fry, but he was the perfect Jeeves, and Hugh Laurie an unsurpassedly dim Bertie!

I also like Still Game, but find I have to rewind sometimes as I miss a sentence due to to the strong Scottish accents.

Recently I've been watching The Golden Girls which I think is brilliant!
I think it was shown around 1985 until 1995.
At the time I was in my late 30's but although I thought it funny, did not get some of the jokes. Now I 'm the same age as the characters in it. I totally empathise with them and find it hilarious.

Don't have the physical boxes, but watch on Netflix. All time favourite- Breaking Bad, then House of Cards, Orange is the New Black and now am engrossed in The Good Wife.

We love Montalbano despite the subtitles.

Among our favourites are House of Cards, Rumpole, Frasier, and Cheers. We recently worked our way through Bleak House – one episode a week – and were thrilled and moved by the brilliant production and wonderful acting.

We watch loads of box sets and my all time favourite is Still Game. If you don't get Scottish tv, chances are you've never seen this gem.

There is a lot of swearing but it's necessary patter, I think. Totally unlike Mrs Brown's Boys, which was ok for the first series but quickly became a tired format.

We always re-watch the Xmas and New Year Still Game specials during the Christmas period and I probably know every line, but I just love it.
(I'm not Scottish btw.)

The Barchester Chronicles and Hichcock films.

The Miss Marple collection with the simply brilliant Joan Hickson.
I will know who dunnit but I never tire of pottering around St Mary Mead.

I don't actually have any box sets, but if I did it would be "Breaking Bad" which I could certainly watch again as I loved it so much.
Also, "House of Cards" (American version). And "Six Feet Under".

I only own one box set, The Vicar of Dibley, Alice still makes me laugh every time at the final joke.

Loved Breaking Bad and Dexter - both too gory for my husband .....

The West Wing, The Sopranos and The Wire. You have to persevere with the last one but it's worth it.

West Wing - best series ever. Dialogue, acting, storylines all superb. Jed Bartlet for President!

I get West Wing mixed up with Green Wing; I loved Green Wing albeit only discovering it late on. I've never seen Spooks which is a gap in my education. Have bought The Wire but couldn't understand what they were saying and couldn't get the subtitles to work. Need to give it another go [have been putting eardrops in for a few days in a last ditch attempt at not going for a hearing test].

Oh West Wing!!
Which reminds me, I haven't watched it (again) all the way through for, let me see, nearly 11 months!
Also love As Time Goes By.
