Woman's Hour

I like woman's hour and it's mix of topics. If some women are asking for equality on banknotes etc then we should hear their arguments. Sounds reasonable to me. I don't like it when they do cooking on it as you can't see what they are eating.

Woman themselves have for years had to campaign to acknowledged as capable of the same intellectual and professional excellence as men.

There are still big pockets of predudice against women in many professions.
Engineering in particular.

We are not still living in Edwardian times, where women should not "worry their pretty little heads" about matters of state and really complicated things like science and technology.

I thought it was the Suffrage women who did most of the fighting.
And today a capable confident qualified woman,(or person) can be what she wants to be,the ones doing the moaning are not up to the challenge,so the want someone to blame.

So we gained equality with the vote in 1928? how come there is still a gender pay gap, fewer women n top jobs, hardly any women in parliament etc is this is because they are " not up,to the challenge" ? I give up

It has to be a wind up, or clever irony? If GN was solely concerned with matters domestic I for one wouldn't be interested in it, though these topics are sometimes interesting, because we do live in the real world..

But women's rights and women's issues are still as important today as they were when the suffragettes fought for the right to be heard. We are fortunate to live in a society where they CAN be raised. And fought for!

Oh My, is this a wind up. Even if the OP is a wind up, Marmark1 is expressing anger at these uppity women who still ask for equal pay and opportunities despite having the vote. How very dare they! If woman's hour is so distressing for you, listen to radio 5 at ten o'clock. Since that uppity Victoria Derbyshire left, we have the chaps in charge again. I like radio 5, despite being a feminist and radio 5 being a bit, well, sport and lad dominated.
No one makes anyone listen to radio 4, to woman's hour or indeed to anything they don't like. Hallelujah for freedom of speech and listening

I think that Womans Hour is a reasonably interesting mix of womens 'issues'
And domestic stuff.Actually,we do need to encourage women to be engineers and architects and so on, and there are plenty of them who have the potential but are steered away from it.

Yup it's all knit your own moustache, let your menstrual blood run free and castrate your sons at birth on the BBC these days. Can't think what's got into them. They are even letting women participate in some of those comedy quiz programmes. Definitely a waste of our licence fees.

I don't know how long ago it was that the Op left work - but sexism and unequal pay and opportunities are still problems that are very much alive and kicking - along with men taking the credit for work done by females, and women losing their jobs because they are pregnant.

If that type of topic did indeed dominate this site I doubt whether it would have such a large membership...
