Wedding cakes

Younger peoples' tastebuds seem to have changed.
A weird thing happened with mine. They ate currants/sultanas/dried fruit until aged 2, then decided that they didnt like them! And havent liked them since.

My DGCs love sultanas / raisins in those little boxes as their "snack". I quite enjoy them too!

I don't know why fruit cake seems to have fallen out of fashion. I always feel a bit disappointed when a celebration cake turns out to be sponge.

The last wedding I attended did not feature a wedding cake as such, but cup cakes on a large tiered stand, and lots of others for the guests to eat and take home. They were lovely, but I do prefer a traditional fruit cake.

I love traditional celebration cakes but cup cakes seem to be the more fashionable thing. I'm not keen its just a bit of sponge with a lot of sugary icing on top. We always look forward to our very traditional Xmas cake each year.

I made one for May and it was traditional fruit cake.

It was cupcakes at the last wedding we went to as well. They looked lovely iced in the wedding colours.
They still looked lovely on the table in the corner when everyone went home !!
I prefer a tasty fruit cake.

Last wedding DD did only had a sweet table consisting of frosted carrot cake, millionaires shortcake, bakewell slices, flapjacks and victoria sponge - all rather brown!

The one before that though was a henna decorated cake with elephant biscuits, in the same design, as favours.

What ever happened to the tradition of storing the top layer of the wedding cake for the Christening? Couldn't do that with a Victoria sponge!!

DD1 and her DH had a chocolate cake iced like the Millenium Falcon as SIL adores Star Wars and chocolate! Very effective and a great talking point!

I suppose a lot of families are now like my DDs. Children first and marriage sometime in the future (maybe)

I have often seen fruit wedding cake given out and left on plates .

Two of my DDs had chocolate cakes and used them as dessert with the evening food. DD 3 got married in April and did this and as she has a gluten free diet the top tier was made to accommodate this.
