I have just watched Frankie Dettori on Channel 4+1 to try to work out just HOW he does that flying jump out of the saddle, and I still can't work it out!

Spring-heeled maybe?

I love his enthusiasm and joy de vivre and I guess he's far slimmer and fitter than me Soutra! Even getting on a horse now would be difficult!

He's young(er) and supple!! grin Oh, and small!

I can do small grin, but it stops there.

I read in an interview just last weekend that he has never been able to do what his mother, a circus performer, did - ride two horses at once, standing up with a foot on each

I always hope the horse is ready for it. Can imagine it shooting forward at a gallop, thinking it's a "giddy-up" signal.

I could do the leaping straight off a horse because one of the ponies in the riding school that I used to go to was a bad tempered, though utterly beautiful golden little brute. She would suddenly decide that she had had enough and go down and roll. When I saw the ears go back, I knew it was going to happen and I didn't want a broken leg, so kicked the stirrups and jumped. I was four or five years old – and, many years later, my mother told me I was an irresponsible parent.

Couldn't do it now and haven't been on a horse for years.

No Oldgreymare, Hounslow Heath, which I don't think exists anymore.
