A slightly different Proud Mummy Moment!

Good evening all,

As some may know, yesterday would have been my DS2's birthday, he died aged 19 in December 2008.

Yesterday I had a little toddle to the church yard to where my beloved step father is buried, and where DS2's ashes are buried in the same plot.

But what completely "blew me away" were the posts on my sons FB page, so many of his friends and extended family had posted such lovely messages, I was (to quote the vernacular) gobsmacked.

Seven or so years later, there were messages, I wasn't surprised to see them for the first couple of years, but to see his peer group (age wise) still remembering and posting was incredibly touching! I especially liked the odd one along the lines of "Oi!, keep the party noises down mate, some of us are trying to get some sleep here!"

Anyway, to justify the OP, I am so proud that my darling boy is so fondly remembered with such affection and for so long. (I know it's not that long in the great scheme of things, but hopefully you will know what I mean, youngsters move on so quickly, and rightly so)

If you have, then thank you for reading this!

That must have been comforting for you phoenix, he must have been a really great lad to have remained in their memories, and for them to continue to keep his memory alive.

Niice to read about thoughtful, caring young people, Phoenix. That must be very comforting, knowing how fondly others remember your dear son, too flowers

You have every entitlement to feel proud that you raised a son who is still remembered with affection and respect by the young people who knew him and valued him years after his sad death. flowers

Huuuuge {hug} Phoenix, birthdays are especially hard, but how lovely to know that he has been such an important person to all his friends and still features in their lives. The young can have a wonderful way of expressing their emotions, can't they, making you laugh and cry at the same time.
flowers and sunshine to you.

I have always believed that how we are remembered after we are gone depends in how much we were loved (or even just liked) while we are alive. A good, loving person will leave good memories and he or she will always be remembered. Bad people just go away, that's it.

I am sure your DS will be remembered by everyone who knew him and loved him, for many more years to come Phoenix which is testament to how he was loved when he was alive.

Wishing you many Happy Memories at this sad time. flowers

Pheonix [hug], you obviously have every reason to be proud of your son. That so many of his friends remembered him on that day goes to show what a great lad he was, and one to be proud of for ever. I wish I had known him.

Thanks for your life affirming post phoenix. We hear a lot of moaning about young people, but your experience mirrors that of close friends whose boys died tragically young. The friendship group continue to commemorate their losses and we're 10 years on x flowers

flowers thank you for posting that Phoenix.

Mishap Fri 01-May-15 10:31:47

How very heartening, both because of the evidence of the affection in which your son was held, and also to see young people (who will have moved on in their lives from teenagers to young men - and maybe fathers) still taking the trouble to make their feelings known. Your son must have been very special indeed. Be proud. flowers

Phoenix

Obviously I feel the same way as all other posters and sending you hugs too.

I couldn't help but notice the time you posted your OP and I hope you managed to eventually get some restful sleep , albeit with bitter sweet memories and personal thoughts. flowers
