Or perhaps changed their names, rosearered? They could just be reading and not posting - just as quite a few said they were doing when I put that thread up the other week about Gransnet being almost 3 years old, and wondering who was still here. Many said that they read the threads almost every day but didn't post as often as they used to do.

There used to be some quite memorable online spats and fall-outs, during which quite a few members left and probably never came back. And the odd one or two have been banned, for various reasons.

Gransnet is not as lively as it used to be.

We've only just managed to scrape past the 24 hour mark on the Active page...

I'm still here! Just too upset at the moment about an arguements I'm having with the NHS about my discharge procedure from hospital in January following a a dislocated shoulder to join in!
Perhaps one of my friends can copy and paste my moan!
I've tried and can't!

I have made a complaint to the hospital where I had such bad treatment - really to try and make sure that no-one else suffers in the same way. I did not want it to be in the form of a complaint but there is no alternative procedure. I wish you luck with all this galen.

It's taken from January to now for the hospital to telly to my complaint, and it looks as though they've falsified records and lied!
I'm not daft! I have almost total memory recall, I am going to take this as far as possible!

I wonder how many people don't post on what might be a contentious subject because they would bring down the wrath of some GNs.
I for one am one of those. I'm fine in a verbal debate/spat.... Call it what you want, but I'm not quick enough on a keyboard.
Tomorrow I will debate/shout, with my friends about a programme on this evening, called: Don't cut my benefits.
I never feel that I could do that on here. I'll stick to ironing and cleaning here, it's safer.

I don't think it's that bad these days, petra. There does at least seem to be rather more give and take with regard to political views and opinions.

I think the problem may be that a lot of people are terrified of upsetting a few people.... and woe betide anyone who uses bad English or makes a grammatical error

I just try to say what I think. I might have some people who agree with me (not many) and some who may not. I don't really care.

I gave up a while ago but I decided to stand up for my views and I accept they will not be agreeable with others. You know what, I honestly think there is a far more tolerant attitude and it is far more pleasant to post.

If you dish it out, expect to get it back. If you have a view, comment. If you don't like being challenged, forget it, you will be. That's what makes GN tick over.

I think there were some nice posters who felt intimidated and I would like to see them post again.

I suppose that generally I don't post on threads that might be deemed contentious, although I do on occasion make the odd point. (Often wrong, or ill-considered, I'm a bugger for both the knee jerk reaction AND at times sitting on the fence/seeing both sides/.

It's a gut feeling.

I think there were a few threads that discussed the 'clique' or bullying feeling some GN's felt was taking place. I don't think I have seen one post mentioning those traits for a while now, I don't see it any more.

All I can say is what I feel and I genuinely think there has been more opportunity to debate or comment without a backlash from anyone.

You said yourself you don't post on threads you feel might be deemed contentious. That's because it was the case it did get nasty at times but I like to think there is a more tollerent attitude and an acceptance that we can agree to disagree but not feel intimidated to speak our minds.

I know one member who does not post any more after being the subject of several "robust" comments when she tried to defend herself after saying she agreed with an article she had read in the Daily Mail. She was also sent some unpleasant pms by someone who is no longer on GN (or who no longer posts).

The Daily Mail being a good example. Its almost treated like the devils spawn by some posters.

I quite enjoy the Daily Mail Petra (I can almost hear the sighs of "we might have known"). I don't take it too seriously but find that there can be some interesting articles.

Some people just cannot leave things be. Having had my head bitten off I said ages ago I was retiring to soop's kitchen and there was even a nasty comment made about that. Totally unnecessary. There are some very pleasant people who contribute regularly but unfortunately there are others who are just a bit too strident for my liking.

HQ have made sure GN is a welcoming, non-aggresive, squeaky clean place. Human nature being what it is, it now has become flat and, sometimes, boring.

We never really leave the playground, "fight fight fight" thing behind. If we try to, we become 'grown-up'. And who really wants that - all the time?

I think most of us enjoy the Daily Mail although many of don't agree with its political take on matters, including me. It can't be denied that it's a very popular website and a good read at times.

It's certainly read by the majority of members whether we like it or not!

What I do find surprising is when some members seem to take it personally if the DM is criticized, as though it were a criticism of their own outlook/politics.
