The problem with wild life films

It is a bit edgy, isn't it? But it has been happening like that for millions of years. When you look closely, all life has a competitive edge to it. Survival against the odds.

I know - when I see a lioness taking down a young gazelle it makes me sad - but then I know the lioness had to feed her cubs. It is a very brutal system and I would have devised a better one!

Is it me or is the real problem with wildlife films that they are never narrated by a woman?

Charlotte Uhlenbroek did a few – the cousins ones – and Saba Douglas-Hamilton. I guess they might be both busy with other work at the moment. Perhaps they will come back some time in the future when their other work is done.

Loved Saba – so natural. Charlotte's manner I found a bit annoying, but that's probably just me.

Whatshername who used to be (still?) on Springwatch is good.

But yes, it would be nice if there were more women presenting wildlife progs.

Never saw the Charlotte ones. Yes Saba did do some presenting and she was great. Unique woman, brought up in Kenya by parents who were studying elephants. The women on springwatch seem to be there as the voice of reason as counterpoint to the male presenters. Bill Oddie was the nightmare presenter from hell - whatserface had the patience of a saint.
It's all those glossy BBC wildlife films from Bristol - I know DA has done far more than his fair share but when they have used someone else to read the script it is always a chap.

Diane Fosse and Jane Goodall were serious scientists, rather than presenters, but I did enjoy their programmes.
Bill Oddie has become a miserable old git - perhaps he was a miserable young git, but the other Goodies kept him cheerful!

Bill Oddie does have some (mental?) health problems, depression or Bi polar, I can't remember.
