I think gransnet is the modern equivalent of the garden fence, like chatting to your neighbours.

glassortwo Fri 13-May-11 11:38:54

Hi everyone, I am looking forward to some over the fence chats with you all.

Daisymay70 Fri 13-May-11 16:04:19

What nice comments from you all oh i do miss chastting over the garden fence Harrigran my neighbours are at work but when I do see them its just a smile and as I dont get out much my computer is a blessing to me.When my children were small had lovely neighbours so lots of chats over the garden fence dont think many people do that now not like they did where I lived in the 1960s happy days they were.
Hope to get to know you all.

harrigran Fri 13-May-11 16:27:48

I miss the old days too Daisymay, I was a stay at home mum and the neighbours were great. There wasn't the childcare when I had my children so gave up my career. Hope you enjoy your online chatting.

(smile)

Hi everyone
Me veteran of 3 days, so glad I found this site. I have 2 fab gs one 5 & 4 months and our little one 1 end of this month. I will be 50 in nov this year, but as my parents live a 5 five hour drive from me I am going to celebrate in september just in case we get the awful weather we had this past winter and I would be broken-hearted not to have them attend.
I am divorced, but have a wonderful partner nearly 4 years who my 2 little gs idolise, its so important that they did bond with him as they are my world and I couldn't be with someone who they could'nt take too.
We all have one thing in common it defies age, disability etc our love for our grandchildren and our prde at been grandparents.
So onwards and upwards and lets have some fun.

Bonjour Ladies, I have just joined too after reading the DM online! All my grandchildren are in England whilst I now live in France. I miss them so so much, so enjoy every moment you have with your grandchildren, the good and the not so good. I also would like to see a "Newcomers" section just to get use to the site and introduce oneself. Bye for now smile

Hello everyone, does anyone know if there is a place to "just chat" to people on here rather than following a forum.I suspect daisymay70 would enjoy such an opportunity. I have "met" and made a couple of really good friends on Saga zone and it would be nice to have the opportunity to do the same on here with like minded people. The facility may be there but I haven't found it yet so if anyone knows better I would love to know smile

Daisymay70 Fri 13-May-11 19:07:50

Yes nanapippa I would love to know too so will keep looking if you find it first let me know keep coming back having a look in here sad isnt it thats me too much time on my hands though ive ben planting my raised bed this afternoon with busy lizzies. getting some fresh air

a chstroom would be lovely.

nanapippa Fri 13-May-11 23:17:16

I certainly will Daisymay70. I am doing my hanging baskets and window boxes with Buzy Lizzies, geraniums and Verbena tomorrow, weather permitting. Perhaps we should set up our own chat room on here? Who is up for it?

supernana Sat 14-May-11 12:02:03

Welcome aboard, Daisymay70...I really do hope that being a Gransnetter brightens your day. I am a newcomer and have met some delightful ladies, to whom I say a very sincere thank you.smile

nanamo Sat 14-May-11 12:21:01

Ladies we can try asking the powers that be if we can have a site chat room.

crimson Sat 14-May-11 13:21:12

Daisymay; I hurt my leg a couple of years ago and was pretty housebound for several months; that's when I discovered the internet and realised I could still 'meet' people. Thankfully, I'm ok now, but it was a real eye opener for me, as I had been someone who totally poo pooed computers. It's wonderful to be able to, for example, watch a film and then discuss it with people from all over the world. I find that emails are brilliant because, if you phone someone you're taking up their time; letters are too slow to arrive, but to be able to compose what to say and read/reply at leisure is fantastic. It's like a time machine as well, because I've got in touch with people from my childhood, but I agree that time flies by when one is online. I love the fact that I can rabbit on but anyone can just ignore me! [attempts smiley face...smile

crimson Sat 14-May-11 13:23:24

wow; first smiley face shock

crimson Sat 14-May-11 13:24:06

Hello Ladies

I just joined this morning and think it's lovely to be able to chat with like minded ladies. Looking at the thread, it seems that a site chat room where anyone can just talk about anything would be most welcome.

grannymags Sat 14-May-11 19:49:52

hello ladies
I think a chat room would be great where we could talk about anything and occasionally have a little rant or just share a funny situation smile

Daisymay70 Sat 14-May-11 22:17:23

Well lets hope that we can have a chatroom on here so nice to have somewhere like this to come to for me as I havnt really anyone to confide in and reading some of the threads here I can relate to some myself not that I would spend time just telling my problems in the chatroom but nice to know there are people here that listen and perhaps give a bit of adivce of needed or perhaps I like to think I might be able to help someone too.
Crimson glasd youre okay now yes awful when you cant do things you want to do very frustrating for me at times.
Very windy here today wondering if Nanna Pippa did her hanging baskets
.
Hello to all the newbies one myself lol.

For anyone who doesnt know what LOL means its

LAUGH OUT LOUD.

took me ages to work out what that meant myself.
Timee to stop nattering am off for my nice cuppa tea.
Nite nite all

nanapippa Mon 16-May-11 18:16:09

Not sure also if there is a way in which one can get in touch with people you like chatting to by giving ones e mail address, but not publishing it for all to see. You can on saga zone, but as yet can't see how on here. I have made a few good friends on S Z that way, but wouldn't want to publish such information openly. Any ideas anyone?

crimson Mon 16-May-11 23:27:27

There does seem to be a private message facility, but not sure how it works.
