Twobabes Fri 24-Jun-11 13:25:51

I agree about the need for a chat room.
grannet powers-that-be, can you do this for us, please?

Twobabes Fri 24-Jun-11 13:26:56

Oops! Meant gransnet.

Hi Twobabes, and all other who've asked for a chat room, thanks for the suggestion.
Could you explain a bit more about what you're after? You're very welcome to chat anywhere in the forums - they are chat rooms of sorts!
You could start a discussion (maybe in 'Chat' smile) for that purpose and everyone can join in - just like this one.
Do let me know if I'm being slow and not understanding!

Twobabes Fri 24-Jun-11 21:50:24

Thanks JosieGransnet.

Although we can, and do, chat anywhere in the forums, if we keep them fairly subject specific then we can look at the forum topics, choose what interests us and go to it knowing that info, advice and comments will be relevant.

It's tempting sometimes to go off at a tangent, taking the thread way off subject. I've deleted several of my comments at the preview stage because they were not relevant to the original question at the start of the thread.sad

On a chat page we can just reply to the last few remarks, as we do in conversation, and it doesn't matter where it goes - it's just enjoyable! And you get immediate replies as you're talking to those online at that moment.
Real chat.smile

What do you all think?

Twobabes Fri 24-Jun-11 21:58:03

Sorry JosieG, I forgot to start a new thread as you suggested.
Can't face typing it again - can you do something with it, please? I assume you are super-computer-literate and very whizzy at this sort of thing!

Crimson, just click on the "Private message" tab to the right of the lilac coloured bar where the members name is, type your message and send it.

I think having a general chat page would be really good idea! The 'idle chit-chat' little thread sort of disappeared, and it was good, because people were putting in their two-penn'orth as the chat ran on. It was really good, I think. It's important to keep the original forums though. smile

nanapippa you may notice some people's profile name's are in blue, that is because they have gone to My Gransnet found at the top of the page on the right hand corner and completed their profile (well as much as they wish to). Towards the end of the page before you save there is a question that asks should we make your page visible. You need to click on Visible to all Gransnetters and then people can send you messages. If they haven't saved at the end of their profile you won't be able to contact them until they do too.

Well that thread went awol blush You can see I don't have enough to fill my time, besides phoning doctors and taking my mother shopping etc etc. Caring for my elderly unwell mother on weekends does give me time on my hands, but at least I am going to a party tonight, I know I will enjoy it. smile wine smile

twobabes, daisymay70 and anyone else who's concerned about this - we don't have a chat room (by which I assume you mean you're chatting in real time to anyone who happens to be online at the same time) because we think we can do this anyway with the forums, especially as we grow. And there's a lot to be gained by letting people come in at other times (if they can only post in the evenings, say) and join the conversations.

The forum titles are only there to help - there are no rules about where you actually start threads or the way the conversation develops. If you think you're off message, don't worry. You may be pleasantly surprised by how many other people want to talk about the same thing. And if they don't, they'll carry on with what they were discussing.

This area - chat - is here so people can discuss random things. There are no rules, other than the usual ones about not being offensive or racist. That's also true of Am I Being Unreasonable, although the random stuff there may be a bit more feisty.

I hope this makes things a bit clearer - but if we can do more, let us know.

Hi Daisymay, I just joined Gransnet and saw your post. I don't know if you're still active here or even a member but here's hoping. I'm Jonna 56 year old granny from Sweden and also an amputee, both legs at the hip since I was two years old so thi is the only life I've ever known. Hope you'd like to get in touch some time. Best wishes Jonna

Welcome all the new Grans ??

There is a "Good morning" thread each day which is just a chat, also a "New to gransnett" forum both can be found under Forums - active.

We are a friendly lot here at GN, even though the Political and Royal Family threads can get heated at times!!!!

There is always a friend at the keyboard to chat with.
