Kitchen flooring?

At the moment we have laminate flooring,we are changing it to cushion flooring.
It`s warmer and items bounce instead if marking it.

We had a choice of Karndean (similar to Amtico) or posh vinyl when we bought this house. We chose the latter because it’s warmer and softer to walk on.

Having said which, we had Karndean in the bathrooms of our previous house and it lasted very well indeed.

We had Karndean kitty, 14 months ago, very happy with it, we don’t have pets, not sure if you do or if that would make a difference.

We have Amtico in the kitchen, laundry/utility room and downstairs loo and hallway.

It’s been down for nearly 12 years, never been a problem, it’s weathered GC, mud and manure (horsey family), parties and occasional furry friends.

Easy to keep clean and hard wearing, most of the time I am in bare feet and it never feels cold.

We have ceramic tiles which look like planks of wood and is really realistic and underfloor heating. I’m really happy with it . Easy to hoover and mop .

We had Karndean fitted about five years ago in the kitchen and it still looks okay. There are a few scratches though. They told us to use their cleaner and protector but we didn't, so I don't know if that would have made a difference. Fortunately the Karndean is black with a varying white-grey wispy pattern, so scratches aren't easy to see.

We’ve just ordered Karndean for our kitchen and hallway, one opens into the other. 🤞 that it’s durable. Certainly those we know who have it are more than happy.

Karndean here, 10 years on it’s still good. It’s the busiest area in the house, I have two dogs - it’s wearing well

We previously had similar ceramic tiles, unfortunately our house likes to move and numerous tiles cracked.

It was a shame as I really liked them.

Large ceramic tiles - mix grey, tan and black. Matt finish and textured, so no danger of slipping, but rather cold on bare feet so I always wear slippers. Easy to clean. And honestly, if I’ve forgotten/too lazy to mop, you can hardly see the muck (must add, being on my own, there’s hardly any )

I've got Amtico in the bathrooms, love it as it's warm. I've got laminate in a hallway and tbh I'm not a fan. In the kitchen and snug I have large ceramic tiles in colours that match the dog hairs and general muck brought in on boots, this has been a huge success but it is cold to bare feet.

Large ceramic tiles here too, ideal as I have a dog in and out all day with muddy paws so easy to run over with the mop & hot water without causing damage.

Family have Karndean and think it’s very good.

We have Porcelanosa tiles in our kitchen/dining room. They look like planks of greyish beige wood but excellent quality and very hard wearing. Another plus is they don't show the dirt but are also very easy to keep clean.

We had Karndean in the kitchen/ diner in our previous house, by the time we moved 5 years later it was quite scratched from moving the chairs in and out of the table but worse than that it was noticeably faded in the area in front of the French doors from the sun, considering how expensive it was very disappointing.. am now in the process of getting a new kitchen fitted and won’t be buying it again

Ceramic tiles with underfloor heating. I love it because I can use a steam mop which is fast and cleans so easily with the dogs. The hall however had karndean and I use a microfibre type mop as the steam mop isn’t appropriate on that.

Large ceramic tiles. They are hard wearing and easy to clean.

We have Karndean in the kitchen laid over a floor levelling compound which covers the old stone floor. No problems so far 3 years on. We wipe it over with a damp mop. There is underfloor heating under the stone floor but we've never used it, nor likely to given the electricity cost, but the fitters said was compatible with Karndean.

kitty- ceramic tiles will add to the " echo factor". A softer flooring will improve acoustics.

Whatever you get - the key to a good finish is preparation of the subfloor.
For my kitchen, I had to have two sheets of plywood, laid in opposite directions and fixed with a given number of screws, before my chosen product was installed.

For ages we’ve had a cushioned vinyl in a ‘tiled’ pattern I chose just because I liked it, but it’s brilliant, hardly ever looks grubby even when it really does need a wash. (That’s only after we had a dog and cat in and out, when it did need doing just about every day.)

I once had ceramic tiles - never again, cold, and if you dropped anything it’d probably break, plus a ‘drop’ once cracked a tile too.
