What channel is it on?

Loved that the Olympic mascot is modelled on the hats worn by the sans culottes.

It's a series of podcasts made by the This is History team, totally free and I access mine through Antennapod. There's hundreds to choose from, spoiled for choice! I'm listening to less live radio programmes these days because I find much more to interest me on podcasts.

I'd love to see this series .
I've read many books on the subject and my favourite is , Citizens by Simon Schama .
His other books are brilliant too .

Citizens is mentioned quite frequently in the podcast and having read your post I've just ordered a copy + the audible version, so I can be super lazy!

Haven't seen the podcast - as soon as the French Revolution is mentioned I always refer to Citizens .

For you history buffs the tv series Versailles is worth watching. The locations and costumes are excellent. Part of the introductory music was used during the Olympics in Paris.

I really enjoyed Versailles .
It was on quite a while ago .
I'm looking forward to watching it again .

Thanks I did watch it first time round and really enjoyed it. The chateau and gardens at Versailles are wonderful. I also went to an evening when the fountains and gardens were lit up and there was a drone show. It was a fantastic place to visit but I walked miles!

I loved Versaille too, both the place & tv series & would love to hear that series, how do podcasts work? & why do you need another platform to hear them?
We watched a great film about it online but on our big tv recently & it was great, its old now so is on YouTube, we googled it and it came straight up, it was Danton, played by Gerard Depardieu who is a controversial figure but a great actor

I didn’t listen to the series, but your mention of Versailles resonated with me. I always wanted to visit, and finally did this March. I loved it, the Hall of Mirrors was what I really wanted to see, and I was not disappointed. The building does concentrate your attention on the French Revolution.

Thanks Maddyone Consultant changed my prescription which made a difference and I was determined to go to the Olympics if I could get travel insurance. I loved the whole trip but wish it had not been quite so hot!

The latest You’re Dead to Me on BBC Sounds is about Philippe, the Duc d’Orleons ( my favourite character in the tv series) and is one of the funniest and most interesting episodes they’ve ever done. I thought I knew quite a lot about him but this was very enlightening.

Regarding the French Revolution I really enjoyed Hilary Mantel's A Place of Greater Safety told recounted from the perspectives of Danton, Desmoulins and Robespierre. It's a bit of a long read but told me a lot about that time.

As with The Rest is History, quite often it’s the ones that don’t sound interesting that are the best. The one about the Kellogg company was one of the most fascinating ones. Trouble is, after their first one hour airing they then reduce down to 30 minute episodes. I don’t know if that is to make them ok for children to listen to ( with them having a comedian and a historian on each show sometimes the content gets a bit racy). The best TRIH ones I found were one about the 1970’s and another one about the Rolling Stones. And whenever one pops up that I really want to listen to they’ll be subscription only. The guy that presents You’re Dead to Me used to write Horrible Histories.

Whitewavemark2, my elder sister was so tickled by the mascot (La Phryge) that she made me send her one.

I loved Versailles and the first series of Marie Antoinette I will probably watch Versailles again as it was some time ago that I first watched it.
