Oh I didn’t realise it was now back on the tv. Always reminds me of my university interview when asked which book I was currently reading. ‘I Claudius’, was my answer. ‘Not another one’ said the lecturer! Obvs hinting that due to the tv show many were reading it. I got in though, 1st college choice at that!
I'm loving watching Claudius again. So much to enjoy - Livia being so wonderfully evil, Caligula being totally deranged and a chance to see Patrick Stewart with hair!
I'm enjoying the Colosseum programmes too. There's so much that I didn't know about it.
If you are enjoying this you might possibly like "Colliseum" which is on BBC4 and iplayer. It is new, and a bit flashy and American but at heart very interesting about the Romans.
Re-reading the book whilst watching it again and enjoying every minute; such a host of talented actors many acting against type, and a terrifying, brilliant story.
We have started re-watching this - we both loved it and re-watched it a few years ago but we are both agog, silent!! Makes a change. Seriously, the acting, the narrtion everything. I love Livia - so evil. There was a women who went for what she wanted.
We loved it - was hooked. David Jacobi. Sian Phillips. Superb acting. We used to watch it on our new ‘portable’ black and white TV in our bedroom which was a trendy white one (!)
Anyone else rewatching this on BBC? I loved it when I first saw it in the 70s and it ignited a love of classical times. I think it's rather studio bound but the quality of the acting is superb.
