Well we traditionally have a thread - so I am starting one.

All mothers of contestants are strictly (!!!) barred!

I'm rooting for JJ Chalmers! (I hope that's his name)

Puzzler61 Sun 18-Oct-20 09:19:02

It was reported Shirley had implants removed last year.

kittylester Sun 18-Oct-20 09:19:28

I think Shirley had them "undone" last year having had them "done" a few years previously.

Puzzler61 Sun 18-Oct-20 09:21:36

X posts kitty ?

DanniRae Sun 18-Oct-20 09:23:56

Hi Sparklefizz - I think that Shirley actually had her implants removed last year? I loved her dress but thought it wasn't very flattering around the bust area.
So glad that Strictly is back - something to look forward to on Saturday nights smile
Is It Takes Two back as well? I have not heard it mentioned.

DanniRae Sun 18-Oct-20 09:25:10

Sorry - another crossed post! blush

Lollin Sun 18-Oct-20 09:36:11

Couldn't resist a peek. What a difference not having an audience or at least a full room of onlookers makes. I was able to enjoy the professional s dance then realised something was missing. Hope they keep it that way though. Poor audience being hyped up in live shows is rather distracting at times.

inishowen Sun 18-Oct-20 10:02:34

A recent interview with Martin Clunes he was asked about his friend Caroline Quentin. He replied "she'll do well, she's a trained dancer". She brushed this aside last night, saying she started dancing at 3 until she was 15. To me that is an unfair advantage.

Mollygo Sun 18-Oct-20 10:06:44

Gave up watching seriously a few years back. Just recorded and skipped through and didn’t worry if I missed a week.
The regularity with which Anton got a dud, the boring chit chat and then last year, the automatic winning of Oti with a sister on the judging panel. On panels I’ve been on you had to declare an interest if you knew the candidate because of the potential for bias. I really understood why after last year. Oh and Shirley Ballas.
It has really passed its best.

Why has Claudia come out in her pyjamas? confused

I loved Claudia’s pyjamas!
Have to confess tho that I’m not a regular viewer; I love dancing but get very bored with all the chit chat.
There seems to have been a lot of fuss in the press about a same sex couple .. along the lines of “I’ll never be able to watch Strictly again!” What IS that all about ? hmm

dragonfly46 Sun 18-Oct-20 10:07:20

For goodness sake Spangler does the thread have to degenerate into how much money they all earn?

I love Strictly - a programme which can be watched without fear of violence or embarrassment.
I too love Claudia although I did wonder what she had on last night.

FannyCornforth Sun 18-Oct-20 10:10:03

EllanVannin

Did we know that Caroline Quentin was once married to Paul Merton from " Have I Got News for You "?

They famously met on a train journey.
They were seated opposite each other. PM was reading a book.
CQ said to him, 'I've read that - it's rubbish'.
And PM promptly threw it out of the window.

That's the story that PM always told in the 90s when they were together.

GardenofEngland Sun 18-Oct-20 10:11:08

If the reveal show was anything to go by it's a 0 from me!

Roxie62 Sun 18-Oct-20 10:11:34

I always watch strictly on catch up. Firstly because hubs cant stand it and secondly because you can fast forward the boring bits

Hellsbelles Sun 18-Oct-20 10:12:47

Likewise in not knowing many of the celebrities , but I sat there with a big happy smile on my face so that will do me !

eazybee Sun 18-Oct-20 10:32:53

I watched it live, against my better judgement, intending to record it and fast forward through all the gushing, but enjoyed it more than expected. All the contestants seem to have interesting personalities; the female professionals wore some very strange clothes and hairstyles, and I much preferred the dances without all the idiotic 'audience participation' of out-of-time clapping and cheering.

I do wish the chief choreographer would let the dancers dance instead of filling every beat with fancy footwork that no-one gets a chance to appreciate because they have all rushed off into their next frenetic lift.

Oh, and the length was just right, about an hour I think.

Neilspurgeon0 Sun 18-Oct-20 10:42:37

That was exactly my question too Phoenix the pjamas

Why on earth does a lovely looking girl like Claudia let the stylists dress her like a joke, week after week?

Awesomegranny Sun 18-Oct-20 10:47:31

All of them seem to think the glitter ball is within their reach, so once they start dancing next week no doubt we’ll be able to work out the ones who’ll get to the final. Feel sorry for Oti getting Bill, but who knows with her skills they may do ok ... Not sure about a same sex couple they could end up tripping over each other if they take in turns leading

Madmother21 Sun 18-Oct-20 10:49:58

Terribull, I totally agree. We record it and wind through all the rubbish. We just watch the dance, listen to the judges, then spool on to the next. It literally halves the programme.

Juicylucy Sun 18-Oct-20 10:51:36

Love the dancing but I agree all the chat in between gets on my nerves I usually make a cuppa when this is on or record it and fast forward the waffle.

Pittcity Sun 18-Oct-20 10:53:10

I wished that Brucie had been there to say, "Nice 2 metres. 2 metres nice."

Millie22 Sun 18-Oct-20 10:53:50

I like Claudia but not too keen on the 'pyjamas' last night. If I do a Harvey Hrvy I will be Mll so I could be a motorway ?

gillgran Sun 18-Oct-20 10:55:49

Thank you, Kittylester, for starting this thread. I am a great fan. Reading through all the posts, I agree with all the positive ones!!
I found last night's introductory programme interesting as I didn't/don't recognise many of the celebrities, ( I really need a list of them for the first few weeks)!!
Other years, I've got to "know" them by the end!

I did know that one of my favourite professional dancers, Kevin Clifton wasn't going to be in it this year. Who else, besides him & AJ is not there?

FannyCornforth Sun 18-Oct-20 10:56:33

I didn't see Strictly last night but just googled Claudia's jym-jams expecting to like them (I am a contrarian).
But no. They are hideous.
From top shop apparently.

No, of course it doesn't. I'll not make another comment, but I will read this thread, it's far more interesting.

Spec1alk Sun 18-Oct-20 11:04:46

I enjoy strictly but avoid the first ‘ pairing off episode. I will watch the programmes from now on. I love the music, dancing and glitz!
