Well we traditionally have a thread - so I am starting one.

All mothers of contestants are strictly (!!!) barred!

I'm rooting for JJ Chalmers! (I hope that's his name)

Millie22 Sun 08-Nov-20 20:21:04

Lovely opening sequence with the dancers and the cello playing family ...not sure of their name. Caroline is still incredibly irritating. Bruno is doing very little really.

Ellianne Sun 08-Nov-20 21:12:45

I think tonight's result will please the BBC at least.

Grannynannywanny Sun 08-Nov-20 21:25:17

I was disappointed to see Nicola and Katya in the dance off. Jason and Luba deserved to be there and their performance wasn’t nearly as good as Nicola and katya, in my humble opinion.
I really thought Caroline and Johanes would have been in the dance off. I enjoyed the show and looking forward to next week.

Anniebach Sun 08-Nov-20 22:09:42

I expected Nicola and Katya to be in the dance off and expected the judges to save them

It is the The Kanneh-Mason Family.
I started a thread about the Imagine programme about them. It was recorded during lockdown.
A truly inspirational supportive family from Nottingham.

Take a look.

Lovely to see so many like watching strictly and to have this thread to join in with thank you for starting it.I felt sad seeing Jason leave tonight

Sparkling Mon 09-Nov-20 06:20:51

Thought the opening was fantastic. Caroline annoyingly loves herself. My favourites JJ and Harvey.

Kandinsky Mon 09-Nov-20 06:48:17

So sad to see Jason & Luba go.
Don’t really like Nicola for some reason, plus she can’t dance.
Caroline is so up her own a**e it’s embarrassing, really hope she goes next week.
JJ is lovely ?

DanniRae Mon 09-Nov-20 07:20:45

I was very sorry to see Jason and Luba go last night. I don't really like Nicola and Katya. But if they were in the dance-off I guess they might go next week?
I am loving JJ - I read his story in the paper on Saturday and I hadn't realised how badly injured he had been. He had so many operations 'to put him back together again.'
I am also liking Bill.......well most of them really.......just not Caroline who has already been said to totally love herself (I wonder what she would think if she read some of the comments on here??)

kittylester Mon 09-Nov-20 07:42:28

Bill is a really good dancer but I'm going off his personality - anyone else feel that?

Willow500 Mon 09-Nov-20 08:08:41

New to this party and also to watching Strictly as my husband refused to watch it before now but he has finally given in and I believe is (secretly) enjoying it!

Neither of us could understand what the Star Wars music had to do with the pasa doble dance but I thought Jason did a much better job in the dance off without all the grinning. We also didn't like the Simpsons effort although I was intrigued how that huge wig stayed on grin

Millie22 Mon 09-Nov-20 08:30:13

Woodhouse
Thank you for the link. They are certainly a very musical family.

Sparklefizz Mon 09-Nov-20 08:41:24

I have read about the Kanneh-Mason family before. They're wonderful and that segment was magical with their music and the dancing. Very peaceful. Thanks for the link Woodmouse

Shame about Jason - a nice guy but his permanent grin - nice at the start - became a bit offputting. Don't think he could have managed a "tango face".

The test for Nicola and Katya next week will be if they do proper ballroom in hold. I hope Caroline goes soon.

honeyrose Mon 09-Nov-20 09:06:38

I would now like to see Nicola and Katya dancing the waltz, American Smooth, quickstep or foxtrot. The 2 dances they have done so far have been very similar - can’t recall what they were called, but bouncy, stompy and high energy. Street dance type dances. The first dance they performed reminded me of Nicola sparring in the boxing ring. The test for her will be something a little more sedate and traditional. Caroline is indeed very annoying - very much a “lovey”. I can’t be doing with all that heart on the sleeve stuff.

eazybee Mon 09-Nov-20 09:07:26

re Bill, I agree, and why does he have to play a musical instrument in every dance?
Caroline Quentin is actually a good dancer; well-placed arms and head, good footwork, graceful and absolutely spot on the beat. I mute all the gush from all the contestants and focus on the dancing.

I can’t take to Bill Bailey either, his hair irks me, I hate to see not much on top then flowing white locks at the back. He seems quite full of himself, rather self effacing on the surface, but he really thinks he’s pretty good.

Teetime Mon 09-Nov-20 09:42:51

I thought Jason was the better dancer in the dance off - sorry to see him go he seemed to be the only one who can stand and smile while the names are being read out- a professional.

annodomini Mon 09-Nov-20 09:45:36

I hope they lose Caroline next week. She is so affectedly 'lovie' and that dress did nothing for her except to make her look like (to my uncharitable mind) a well-upholstered sofa.

Alegrias2 Mon 09-Nov-20 09:55:38

Honeyrose - Nicola and Katya did a quickstep in the first episode.

And annodomini, Caroline was meant to be Mama Rose from Gypsy . She was meant to look like a well upholstered sofa. smile

Ellianne Mon 09-Nov-20 09:59:56

I was thinking .. .... because they were able to spend more time on the professional group dances during lockdown and film them in some lovely (outdoor settings), their actual performances have been of a higher level and have more emotion. It just goes to show how we've lost the fine art of cinematography and perfection over the years in many budget shows which are slapped on TV. The camera work on the Kanneg-Mason family was very professional tto, so gentle and capturing their lovely faces.

honeyrose Mon 09-Nov-20 11:08:17

Alegrias2. Sorry - my mistake. It didn’t look like the quickstep to me, but if it was I didn’t recognise it as such. Too jumpy, upbeat and bouncy, but apologies if I got it wrong. By the way, I thought Ranvir’s foxtrot was absolutely wonderful - and she danced like a dream(girl) and looked beautiful too in her Royal blue dress and sixties style hairdo (a wig, I presume). Very elegant.

Alegrias2 Mon 09-Nov-20 11:16:50

Hi Honeyrose, I think you are thinking about a different dance. This is a very quickstep-y quickstep smile I'm not a ballroom dancer though, so sorry if I've misunderstood

www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p08w9rpd

Its not the best executed quickstep in the world, but I love watching Nicola and Katya dance, its joyful.

Agree about Ranvir, she was great!

honeyrose Mon 09-Nov-20 13:26:06

Alegrias2 you’re absolutely right. The first dance Nicola and Katya performed was indeed a quickstep. I was thinking about the first dance in which someone would be voted off. Apologies. Yes - the couple are both very joyful. I don’t think I’ve ever seen Nicola without a smile on her face. She has a zest for life which is enviable.

rafichagran Mon 09-Nov-20 22:53:20

I like Nicola too, but I also like her high octane fast dancing.

Nannylovesshopping Thu 12-Nov-20 16:38:30

Nicola and Katya out of the competition, Katya has tested positive for Covid-19, such a shame, I loved watching them, wish her good recovery.
