Did anyone see the first episode of this last night? I had my misgivings about another series, thinking, what was there new to see or say, but I was completely blown away by it. The photography - especially the opening shots with the dolphins - was astonishingly beautiful, and I am always amazed by the expertise of these camera people and the lengths they go to to bring us such wonderful footage.

I loved it ...David Attenborough and all ....what amazing ocean life that I shall never see, only through the TV....couldn't believe some of the fish ! how about that one that turns itself into a male from being female !!! thought that was amazing ......I may be the odd one out, but if only I had half the enthusiasm for life and all its wonderful things that he has I will die happy ......and I am nowhere near his age ! fantastic !

It was brilliant, some of it did remind me of a trip to Newfoundland and Labrador to see the Icebergs, Puffins, Whales, Eagles.

Caro1954 Mon 30-Oct-17 16:23:54

David Attenborough puts me off watching these programmes. I like Chris Packham a whole lot more now that I understand him better - wish I'd known about the Aspergers earlier. Big lesson there for me. I have two friends with paranoid schizophrenia and prided myself on being open minded - seems I was wrong ...

Jalima1108 Mon 30-Oct-17 16:36:36

VIOLETTE I agree

And full of awe at the photography and the tremendous perseverance and skill of the cameramen/women.

Haven't seen it yet, but loved the first series. Undersea wildlife programmes always used to be the boring ones years ago but now they're the most breathtaking.

HannahLoisLuke Mon 30-Oct-17 17:25:41

Loved the programme and for me it has to be David Attenborough, just wouldn't be right with anyone else. When he was younger he travelled and got very involved in the filming but he can't do that now of course.
Chris Packham? Never a fan as I didn't care for his obsession with raptors. Having seen the programme about him and Aspbergers though I now understand and see him in a totally new light.

I remember being glued to ‘Diving to Adventure’ with Hans and Lotte Hass in the fifties - the forerunner of all the underwater wildlife programmes. Quite primitive by comparison to today’s hi tech photography, but very exciting at the time.

Tegan2 Mon 30-Oct-17 17:53:13

Not underwatery but had to share the fact that we've booked to see Gordon Buchanan who's giving a talk at our local nature reserve#bitexcitedaboutthat

Tegan2 Mon 30-Oct-17 17:53:45

...although the nature reserve is at Attenborough and does have links with the Attenborough family...

radicalnan Mon 30-Oct-17 18:00:04

Attenborough is old and greedy, it spoils things for me , him droning on, when I know that so many younger people are awaiting their big break and he could so easily 'move over'.
He has more than made his money.

He is the very reason the world is in the state its in, old men, never wanting to give someone else a chance.

HurdyGurdy Mon 30-Oct-17 18:05:46

Oh my goodness, it was spectacular. I almost forgot to breathe!

I am pleased that they are showing "the making of" these series, although we all know David Attenborough is brilliant, all he is doing is narrating.

The dedication and skills of the camera operators are what actually make the programme, and I am so pleased that they are getting their recognition.

sarahellenwhitney Mon 30-Oct-17 18:11:53

I like David Attenborough's casual unassuming approach. Now Bear 'I can do everything and anything know it all ' Grylls. I would rather put my hand in a bucket of manure than watch any programme that features this pretentious individual.

Menopaws Mon 30-Oct-17 18:15:49

Brilliant on every level

Tegan2 Mon 30-Oct-17 18:27:05

Haven't watched it properly yet, but saw the bit at the start that showed the 'sleeping' whales. I have this on video somewhere as, the first time I saw it, I had to keep showing it to people because I was so amazed by it! Hoping they show, at some point, my favourites; cuttlefish.

Shizam Mon 30-Oct-17 19:55:33

Usually I’m the one to hate everyone’s favourites. But I adore David Attenborough. And blue planet two last night was truly stunning. My grown up kids also love this, which gives me hope for the planet.

Jalima1108 Mon 30-Oct-17 20:10:55

sarahellenwhitney I heard that Bear Grylls, Chief Scout, ventures out into the wild, filming his intrepid explorations then retires to the comfort of top hotels at the end of filming.

(that may not be true, of course grin)

Jalima1108 Mon 30-Oct-17 20:13:09

Attenborough is old and greedy greedy? what makes you say that? confused
and old - we're all getting old and good on him for working so long into old age - an inspiration to us all to keep our minds active.

Jalima1108 Mon 30-Oct-17 20:14:00

Never a fan as I didn't care for his obsession with raptors. nor urban foxes

Cubagran Mon 30-Oct-17 20:14:33

I thought it was excellent, and I adore David Attenborough, as does DH. We always watch his programmes, it's the law in this house. And he could read the dictionary to me, I love his voice. Our children were brought up on David Attenborough programmes.

loopyloo Mon 30-Oct-17 20:50:27

I know it's almost heresy to say it but not keen on DA. What a relief to know I am not alone.
Will watch Blue Planet though when DH back at work.

Greyduster I love Chris Packham, he goes to countries every year to save birds from traps and other disgusting devices that people set, at great risk to himself. He actually does something for wildlife, unlike David Attenborough who only films them and doesn't even do that himself. Chris's film about his life with Asperger's was informative and brave.

Greyduster Tue 31-Oct-17 08:31:22

I am not in the least denigrating Chris Packham’s dedication to and passion for wildlife. It is to be admired. I know he has had mountains to climb in respect of his disability, and that even before we knew about his Asperger, there were many who liked him as a presenter. I don’t. I cannot watch or listen to him, it is simply that. I don’t watch Spring Watch or Autumn Watch because of him (although the other idiot male who presents alongside him is not much better!). Chacon a son gout.

nanasam Tue 07-Nov-17 20:25:53

lemongrove Tue 07-Nov-17 21:25:57

Blue Planet 2 is spectacular!
We are used to excellent filming nowadays, but this is just breathtaking.
